Hi great insight and knowledge.im still learning with these motors.can i ask please how much pitting or washboarding would be ok,or is acceptable. Also does a bit of emery paper help with the pitting and rusty marks? Ive got 7 cranks here at home and theyve all got some water damage marks some only on one journal some on several. thanks for any advise you could offer.
You can actually run these things on propane if you as long as you got 2cycle oil in the gas tank mixed up with cheap drinking achol or ethanol and as long as theres no cdi
I think in this case it was rusted pitted then had some hrs put on it , caged roller bearings have a much greater tolerance for rust and pitting and low oil
Been working on these from 79 to date. Most are 76ci and 90ci as the 1961 to 1964 are the screamers and why is they were built loose in my opinion. Another thing guys forget to check is ring end gap when you get a new set. Now days it's not worth building them if you have to bore them and few shops are set up to do dead holes. I had a 70s 650 last summer with a hole in the top of the cylinder and it pumped water out real nice lol crap gas most likely burned a hole in it. We scrapped it. These 125s 135s and 150s took a beating for sure. I would love to hear what he has to say about the 68 to 71 115s with egg-shaped cylinders too. Ran great cold but when warmed up lost compression. I have been told I have more inlines that anyone in the Midwest lol 1957 to 1977

That chattering is a beautiful example of a hard use engine.
