The heroes of DC are heroes, but Nightwing is THE hero.

Nightwing is quite possibly my favourite DC character of all time. He's got the depth, the skills and the personality.

Characters like Nightwing are why i love comics. You can make his character go through hell, experience the gamut of what life has to throw at you and he refuses it to let it make him jaded. Hes a lot like Spider-Man in that regard but in a way he feels more grounded the Peter.
It probably helps that Nightwing has been allowed to grow and develop and change rather than constantly be reverted back to a 15 year old like Spider-Man always is lol
Plus imo Peters writers seem to hate giving him a happy ending whereas nightwing does get that plus nightwing gets more development outside of his hero persona

Dick had a mentor, Peter didn't. Though, I dare say that even with their roles reversed, Dick would still be the merrier of the two.
Marvel will never lift the Parker curse from Peter. Theyve made it his selling point that even though Spiderman may thrive, Peter Parker will always suck. This is why I love the new ultimate Spiderman. Guy is married to MJ, has two kids, Uncle Ben is alive, JJJ doesn't hate him.

Nightwing is honestly my number 1 favorite hero in DC comics, with Batman being second. Nightwing is pretty much the best example of heroism in the DC universe, and his actions and reputation have earned him the respect of guys like that of Superman, and even Black Adam. Batman even saying to him when he was Robin after asking Batman if he would be a member of the Justice League someday, and him confidently responding with “no….your going to lead it.” Proves that he has what it takes to become the greatest hero in all of DC next to Batman, and become the greatest leader of the Justice League.
Also it’s worth noting that Nightwing is a charismatic and much better leader than Batman. Let me explain. Batman doesn’t inspire you to listen to him. You do so because he’s fucking Batman and not listening to him is extraordinarily stupid. You listen to Nightwing because you genuinely want to follow him and help him shape the world into something better and he makes you believe it’s possible which is what makes it possible.
Nightwing has this effect on everyone he meets. Befriending hero's and villains alike, this is why if you wanted to hurt the entire Dc universe by killing one person off it would be him.
That’s the best part of Dick. He’s stepped up as his own man, he’s not what Batman wants, but needs. Even Bruce recognizes this, that’s why he’s so proud of him.
Dick is every part the compassionate grounded foil that sometimes Bruce needs to hear from. He’s grappled with so much trauma (and so much shit that writers keep throwing at him) but whenever he comes up in an animated series, or when you read (MOST) of his arcs no matter how shitty it gets you just feel like Dick inspired hope, that you know everything will be okay. (I say most because I don’t care or never have wanted to find out how the whole Rick Grayson shindig ends two comics in and it was a write off to me what a crock of shit)
Batman doesn’t inspire hope, Batman sure sends a strong message of morality, but also serves as a stark warning of letting hate and trauma drive EVERYTHING you do, he’ll never truly be happy because he can’t be at rest with his pain.
Dick on the other hand like I’ve observed from other people is Superman but as a mortal. And unlike superman you never have to worry about dick going on a massive power trip cos of his abilities, dick is a dude you’d want to grab a beer with but also can trust him no matter what. (fittingly Nightwing was Superman’s alter ego back in the 60s when he was stuck in Kandor - before nightwing was established as dick Grayson)

I also have the 1st time the 2 meet when he was a young Robin and when the rebirth Superman meets Nightwing. Since he had a good feeling about this version of Superman. Everyone else feel in line. Even Bats to a point.🦇

Alfred Pennyworth said it best. Master Bruce may feel you should only be a hero when wearing a costume. But I'm glad Dick Grayson steps up when someone is in need. It takes a different hero to help without a mask.
This is why everyone loves Nightwing, there is no separating him from the mask like every other hero does. He is Dick Grayson in and out of the mask and that's why he is such a likable character.

Nightwing is great! I've been running through the Tim Seeley trade paperbacks, and it's fantastic writing. Dick is compassionate and hopeful. He also doesn't ever feel like he has it all figured out, in any aspect of life. He might not have the calculating mind of Bruce, but he has a good strategist's mind. He's also never too proud to ask for help when he needs it. Bruce can be shut off, isolated, and very withdrawn within himself. Dick always seems to reach a hand out to those who need it, and tries not to judge people, at least not too harshly. He's really become a pillar of the DCU, and I love reading these vibrant, interesting, and human stories about him!
Nightwing is the beating heart of the bat family. Every member of the bat family looks up to and respects dick as a hero, a leader and a brother. Even Jason. One of my favorite parts of Batman comics are the dynamics between each Bat-Family member towards each other and I love that Dick brings out Bruce’s softer side whenever he says I’m proud of you son. He was there after Jason was killed and came back, he was there when barbara got shot and he helped Tim become the perfect robin and he helped bruce raise damien at times. I think if it weren’t for Alfred being a huge influence on Dick growing up he wouldn’t have turned out as good as he did. Bruce is a flawed father at best so Alfred’s influence was needed for Dick to not suffocate on the darkness. Nightwing is my favorite Bat-Family member.

And that’s part of why Live Action Titans FUCKED up their take on Dick Grayson. YES in comics people forget there were times Dick was edgy and dark, mainly the 90’s I believe. But it’s clearly majority of the time he’s the light of the Bat family. And Titans couldn’t pull that off. Their Dick Grayson is a man who is an escaped criminal who assaulted an innocent man for no reason, and never paid the price for it.
they completely failed to establish nightwing’s character, it suckssss, it’s like the empathetic and caring grayson wasn’t even there?? not to mention that his death was because of a bullet?? like i get it, he’s only human, but nightwing is amazing and honestly my favorite hero, seeing him die by something as simple as a bullet made me just as mad as when he got killed by Damian in the injustice universe because Damian couldn’t contain his anger, i’m just glad that injustice isn’t canon lol
@@Tasha28170 honestly, same. He isn't the type for conflict but more of solutions. They keep forgetting that Dick Grayson was a circus kid, his job was to make people laugh and be lighthearted. Seeing him die to a bullet really ticks me off.

Looking past "powers" Nightwing is, to me, a great blend of Bruce/Batman and Clark/Superman. When Bruce got Supermans powers everyone instantly knew it would end badly, like it does anytime someone has his power for awhile. Richard Grayson is the ONLY character I can think of that wouldn't cause worry or fear if he ended up with Supermans abilities. The reasons Clark and Richard do what they do are so similar. And for these two heroes beating the bad guy is only half the job. They also want to make people's lives better whenever they can. Always looking for a "better way" to help people even if that means working ten times harder. Remember, Grayson chose the name "Nightwing" after hearing Superman tell him the legend of a pair of kryptonian heroes. I don't think anyone respects and even admires Grayson more than Batman himself. Knowing Nightwing is training Jon feels like a blessing to Clark because he knows Richard will not only teach him skills and strategy but also be the kind of role model Clark is. Having the highest respect, trust, and approval from both Clark AND Bruce is no small thing. The fact that it wasn't a goal or something he tried to achieve makes it even more incredible. Not many are even close to that.
