  • How to replace a CD drive in a laptop with a Hard Disk.
In this video, I will show you how to replace your outdated CD drive by a 3.5" HDD using nothing but old laptop scrap.
    Materials:
    - Laptop motherboard, to obtain a SATA connector
    - 3.5" Hard Disk (Internal Hard Disk, can be reused from old/broken laptop)
    - Some wires and solder
The wiring diagram can be downloaded via the link below:

My man basically created a HDD caddy outta scrap. Congrats for taking the time to look into the pinouts and wiring. Cheap and the planet loves you.

this is insane. I'm using this so I don't have my 2.5 Inch HDD dangling in my PC case. But it got real crazy when I realized you were actually doing this in a laptop and not just using an old laptop HDD in your desktop.

I can bypass a lot of these steps, since I have an SSD caddy from my old laptop (HP ProBook 6460b) and I’m trying to put it in my Lenovo ThinkPad L540, but the caddy is too thick.
However, the interface board is the same, so I take that out of my caddy and (hopefully) it will mount in place where the optical drives current interface board is. 😊
