I rarely comment on vids but will here. You've done MUCH better with this video than other who produce tech vids. You filled in gaps, those little bits of info that many people just skip over. You took the time to notice those little things and comment on them. You did this in both of your vids. Really, this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ssd location does matter. Main drive sata vs optical bay speeds are different. If you want real performace, you want to swap the ssd to main drive and the hdd to the optical bay.
A very clear presentation and the fact that you identify issues such as caddy depth, Etc. with clear descriptions of everythign is wonderful. Very much appreciated.
Quick question. Does having the SSD in the caddy make that much of a difference in read/write speed compared to as when it is placed in main drive slot?
This is the most productive & professional video. You told us to check the laptop. Because all Laptop are different. You set out first. By telling the easy way. This has been very helpful to me. I have an old laptop. A Lenovo W500 that runs windows 10. It runs ok for now. But I know it could be better. Well you know what I will be doing next. You sir have a new subscriber. Thank you very much. Keep up the great work.
Wouldn't you technically be able to do the software transfer after the 2nd hard drive is installed with the caddy rather than doing the software transfer before using a slow USB link?
Hey I have a question , I am confused about my optical drives sata version because I've heard that putting an SSD in the optical drive which is sata 2 is less performance so I would like if I had some way to check what version my optical drive is
I wish I find your chanel before it would save me a lot of work, i bought the larger one so I got to cut the adaptor so it could fit on my laptop I'm glad it worked... But you have a nice chanel gonna follow you now on
Like that in the description you actually leave a description of what steps you did & how to do. Most ppl don't do that, or some will at least link a doc file to view (which is better than nothing). Optical Drives aren't used very often anymore anyway, so why not upgrade with let's say 1TB or 2TB. Harddisk and SSD prices are low these days. In some cases the optical drive even needs to be cleaned from dust inside, yes inside :S. I know i am replacing mine, in my HP Omen, with an SSD. The external optical drive is faster anyway, for some reason. Optical drives barely, or not at all, exceed USB3.0 speeds, while SSD can perform better connected directly to the motherboard. HP will suggest to not use a caddy, but external HDD instead. But they have it the other way around.
if I put new SSD in main storage slot and keep my old HDD in caddy cd drive and run new OS from SSD, then HDD work at same like it worked before? some saying that HDD is working slow when it is kept in caddy .. Anyone answer this
Hi I want to add my old laptop’s hdd to my new laptop’s optical drive bay which I found is 12.7 mm type. But the problem I am facing now is that my old hdd is of serial ata 150 type. So will it work? And where can I get a caddy with sata 150 connectors?
Amazing video. Can I ask, is it possible to transfer my OS and files to my new SSD 'AFTER' fitting it in the caddy/optical drive bay? Or it it absolutely essential to make the transfer first externally?
Hi EasyTechs!! I find your video very informative. I had a HDD which I cloned and replaced with an SSD. I now want to swap my Optical drive with the old HDD, which still has the OS and all the old files still on it. Do I have to format my old HDD before swapping with the optical drive?
Hi I'm getting errors in File Transfer "0x800701b1" device not specified. The HDD is placed in caddy and getting some errors. Is caddy has some issues or do I need to change some configuration
Hi, I facing an issue.I replacing my HDD with new SSD and plan to put new SSD in harddisk bay while the old HDD in caddy. When I boot up my laptop, I can see the HDD in boot menu but I cannot see the HDD in disk management after my laptop finish boot up.
Great video and made a decision to buy. I installed SSD in primary and HDD in optical caddy. Both are working fine. But the HDD is working slow. The transfer rate, opening a folder in HDD is very slow.....any suggestions???
Thank you for this idea. 1. Can I do clean install of Windows 11 to the ssd and use the old hdd as my storage drive? 2. Is it okay to just use 120gb ssd to install the Windows OS there?
I did the migrating with the ssd connected internally in the optical drive. I chose the option to transfer and keep the old drive, not remove. It seems the system is not booting from the new drive. It is still booting from the old one as everything was copied, not moved. Did I go wrong somewhere? Would it be different if I do start off with the USB connection? How do I now make it boot off the new drive?
Hai EasyTechs ! Right now i just done moving my window OS to my SSD, so i have 2 os program (1 on my HDD, and 1 on my SSD) I'm going to put my HDD to HDD Caddy, and put the SSD to my main one. (HDD + SSD) My question is, is it fine to just put both in (with 1 OS on HDD and 1 OS on SSD)?? we just need to go to BiOS setting and select which drive to use as our main OS? Is it right?
I have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop and I replaced my dvd rom with a WD SATA SSD. But whenever I put back my battery the ssd isn't detected and the laptop doesn't boot. Sometimes it starts working if I remove the drive and put is all together and sometimes it doesn't detect. Can you help me with this?
Should i Add my SSD to CD ROM Slot or Replace SSD to Hard drive slot and keep Harddrive to CD Rom slot. Because i heard that there may be issue of frequency of CD ROM which is 1.5 GHz and it doesnot performs better. So is it advisable to replace HDD slot with SSD and put HDD in CD ROM slot?
@easyTechs Thanks for the video. I do have a question though. Doesn't the carry pop out when the button on the DVD Rom - now the new compartment - is pressed?
In case the ssd/usb cable is not available, is it possible to plugin the ssd drive first, then cloning the system? I.e. starting by step 2 first then step 1
Hey, i just installed a new HP SSD on the main spot(where was the hdd before), but without putting in the caddy, cause my laptop does not see the caddy idk why. After installation, i put in the caddy, and the win 10 boots around 3 minutes, but the caddy is not there in the files. What can i do sir? I have know idea. I tried all day for 3 days now...
Brother I need your help ! My hard disc got corrupted so I have decided to convert my CD Drive into a second space using the cady. In an TH-cam video I saw that after setting up everything one need to go to the device manager and turn the unallocated space into New Volume. So as for now I need to reinstall the OS. Can I do that while installing ?
@EasyTechs after I inserted my old HHD in caddy (in the old place of HDD is inserted SSD), the disk HDD is invisible for Windows. I have tried to find it with Device Manager by scanning for new devices. Could you suggest me the solution? I have the same caddy as it is in video. I see this white dip switches. Do you know what is their functionality? I can't find manual, where this information could be included
Sir, I put my hdd on my caddy. But, there is a clicking sound while booting up, shutdown, and restart. Is it okay to my hdd sir? Or, is it better to change the position? Hdd on its original place and ssd on caddy..
Whats the difference between putting ssd on caddy and on hdd spot i need to open up my pc to put ssd on hdd spot its going to be a hassle for me because i don’t trust myself to pry open the laptop and replace ssd on hdd spot and hdd on caddy
Hi, i would like to ask about the ssd. If i change my dvd drive to ssd. Can i directly mirror the windows to the ssd from my current hdd? Do i need to change any setting in the bios? Is there any difference if i put the ssd in hdd slot or the dvd drive slot? Thank you.
Will the following order work? 1. Install the SSD straight into the (former) optical drive; 2. Then transfer the OS (Windows 10) across to the SSD; 3. Then change the bios to boot from the SSD.
I have a problem. I placed the ssd in the optical drive and cloned everything and it's recognising all data. But when I go to bios and change boot order to ssd in optical drive, it fails. When I manually boot from ssd, it says boot device failed. Basically, I'm not able to boot from ssd in optical drive. Any help with this is highly appreciated. Thanks
I have a windows laptop and im thinking to replace my dvd unit with an ssd or hdd drive and run Linux. So i will have both windows and Linux. Is that possible? Im not using dual but because I dont have that much free space on windows drive
Thanks for your very informative videos! One quick question: is there any difference in placing the SSD in the optical drive bay and keep the HDD in its place? Or do you recommend to set up the SDD always in the hard drive slot? Thanks!
The optical drive slot is SATA 2, which is faster than hdd but not fast enough for ssd. The original hard drive slot is SATA 3, which is also slower than ssd but it is faster than sata2.
After setting an HDD to my optical drive, I took the drive off and used the optical drive few times and now when I insert the HDD again, it does not recognise. In bios and devise mgr, it does, but in My Computer, the drive does not show. Can you help?
Thank you very much, my laptop's SATA port died and I've been running Windows portably through USB 3, this is a great solution since my laptop has no warranty (I got it for free since the previous owner deemed it hopeless)
If i replace my hdd with ssd and put the hdd in the optical slot and REINSTALL windows from scratch on ssd. Will I be able to copy my files from the hdd on the sdd(pictures mostly, not apps) in order to format it and then use it as storage? (I don.t really trust the cloning method)
I have an empty m.2 ssd slot in my laptop. If I follow the steps of software migration (as you stated in another video), install the ssd and configure it according to this video. What will happen to my previous C:/ drive which is in hdd?
I inserted Ssd in hardrive bay and hdd in optical bay but forgot to Migrate First. What should i Do now to migrate Os from HDD to ssd? I am getting ntfs error by trying to migrate using minitool partition. please help
Hello , please i want to adding an SSD to my laptop with the caddy , i want to migrate my operating system (:C drive) in the SSD and keeping the data of (:D drive) i want to use the 2 hard drive (SSD like :C drive and HDD like :D drive) , what i do ? and another question , if i havn't a Usb Sata cable , can i adding the SSD first then do the migrate , possible or no ?
Hai sir...the minitool partition wizard need serial key... I just install the latest version.. can't futher the next step of copy disk..need to buy license for the software
What if I only want to transfer my OS to the ssd and keep my other files to the hdd and the hdd will be placed in the caddy? Where should I delete the partition of OS in hdd?
i hope u answer me , can i put ssd in the cady rack and use it as the main boot choice for windows or i must put the ssd in hdd bay inside of the laptop to do so ?
No brother you can use ssd in both cases, but because DVD drive is of SATA II and main hard disk bay is of SATA III , it is recommended to use in hard disk bay but, in both the cases the speed of ssd will be the same, I would recommend you in optical bay because in hard disk bay there are motion sensors of hard disk, 👍✌😄
I connected the SSD into optical drive SATA and cloned the OS from the SSD. When i try to boot the OS from the SSD blue screen appears stating that something went wrong.
If i remove the HDD and put that in the dvd place by caddy and put the SSD in the the HDD's place, Can the laptop's motherboard be damaged in the long run?
Hi there and thanks for a very informative video! Quick question though, is it possible to boot a copy of Windows from the Hard Drive in the caddy? I'm planning on getting a SSD for Windows 10 that will sit in my laptop's storage bay, but want to run Windows 7 off of the HDD in the caddy as I need Windows 7 for some older programs. Any help would be much appreciated!
i am gonna be upgrading my 2tg hdd with 240gb ssd, for which i need to clone my hdd to ssd which only has 53gb of data and 15gb of system image n all, my question is after i have cloned my hdd to an ssd how do i format the hdd , bcz there has to be a time that both drives are connected and both have windows, so will my windows license will become invalid , kindly help ???asap.
Hi, I am trying to install my older HDD into caddy in my optical disk drive slot but when I turn on my laptop (with caddy and HDD inside) it remains stuck on the black screen or the boot mode and when I press “esc” button it shows “ESC…Pause Startup” . I also tried to insert the caddy while the laptop is turned ON but then it simply shuts down automatically. I have tried both switch postions in the caddy but still it’s not working. I’ve seen countless videos over youtube, have read several forums as well but I didn’t see anyone facing this particular issue. I also tried to replace my caddy and ordered a new one but still the same issue persists. At this point on I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or it’s a hardware issue. So, Kindly help me in resolving this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks My system - HP Notebook 15-ac035tx.
My hp laptop is getting stucked on boot process when my HDD caddy is there and if i remove the hdd caddy the windows get easily Boot up from my ssd. I have changed the Boot order in BIOS and done everything on the internet.i am really stuck. Please help me

i hope u answer me , can i put ssd in the cady rack and use it as the main boot choice for windows or i must put the ssd in hdd bay inside of the laptop to do so ?
No brother you can use ssd in both cases, but because DVD drive is of SATA II and main hard disk bay is of SATA III , it is recommended to use in hard disk bay but, in both the cases the speed of ssd will be the same, I would recommend you in optical bay because in hard disk bay there are motion sensors of hard disk, 👍✌😄
@@parinchoudhary1905 Dont worry motion sensors are not that needed because SSDs dont have moving parts.
Best video about installment of caddy drive
Good to know it helped you out, thanks so much for the feedback!
I connected the SSD into optical drive SATA and cloned the OS from the SSD. When i try to boot the OS from the SSD blue screen appears stating that something went wrong.
What will be the difference in performance while placing ssd in caddy or in the main sata where there is hard drive
Optical drive speed is slower than sata drive
If i remove the HDD and put that in the dvd place by caddy and put the SSD in the the HDD's place, Can the laptop's motherboard be damaged in the long run?
If I replace CD drive with ssd
will it affect booting speed and read write speed ?
Hi there and thanks for a very informative video! Quick question though, is it possible to boot a copy of Windows from the Hard Drive in the caddy? I'm planning on getting a SSD for Windows 10 that will sit in my laptop's storage bay, but want to run Windows 7 off of the HDD in the caddy as I need Windows 7 for some older programs.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Which one is better SSD in HDD compartment or optical drive compartment?
Thanks

is there no need to transfer OS after inslalling SSD? is ok to just start up with SSD using BIOS? pls help tnx
Thanks for this tutorial.
Btw, what will happen if I'm using that hard drive then I pop open the slot?
Nothing since there is way to 'pop' it open. the caddy is a tray. It doesn't have any mechanism to "open" like the DVD drive did.
