A great mod is the Nucleus CoOp mod. Makes a ton of games split screen compatible that simply aren’t. Halo, Deep Rock, No Man’s Sky, The Forest, and even Skyrim Together. Definitely a top tier college dorm activity.
Remember the day when I first play STALKER misery mod I was really impressed how a game can be modded to a extend is a extreme hardcore immersive survival like how it would be like living in the zone. Very bite of meat is full of radiation and you need to manage what you can eat and maintain you guns. A lot of the feature, like 80% of them, are transferred to the mod STALKER Anomaly we all love and play today
In a way all the latest mods are just Misery, since Anomaly, Dead air and similar mods were made from Last Day which was made from Call of Misery which was Misery ported to CoC. That mod left such a mark
5:30 PR may be one of the most popular mods for BF2. But there is another very active and old mod that is at least as legendary. this one is called Forgotten Hope 2. This mod converts the entire game into a world war 2 hardcore shooter. with incredible attention to detail. Would you like to go into battle as a Frenchman? CHECK! would you like to play as Poland? CHECK! well-known but also rather unknown battlefields/factions can be found in the game. it's even standalone! A visit is worth it. the servers are particularly popular in the evening hours at european time. the weekend is even busier so that the 100 man server is full.

One mod that i think deserves a spot is a mod called "Total Choas" for doom 2. Its a all out total conversion mod that basically is its own game that is a survivial horror game and its crazy how good the graphics are for a mod that was made off of doom 2. take a look at it and its crazy. i think the dev worked like 7 years on it or something and its a whole polished experience. it has its own story and everything and its really good. i highly recommend you take a look at it.
That shoutout to Desert Combat! That was the mod that started it all for me. Project Reality will likely always be the greatest gaming I have ever experienced.
XCOM 2 with Musashi's RPG overhaul - instead of having rigid classes you can mix and match skill trees and if you use some of its plugins you get even more special classes that are stronger than the skirmishers and the templars and reapers. Fight the aliens with jedi if you want - but you need to install some enemy mods that make them stronger and smarter if you start to get crazy
I think my favorite FPS Mod I play at least once a year is the Half-Life Mod "Cry of Fear" It is just a wonderfully made mod and now basegame with good psych-horror. Love it ^^
Stalker is so underappreciated and unknown. I've probably put 350 hours in that game by this point now. Such a vibe. Smoking cigarettes to remove radiation, finding little holes in the ground to make a hideout out of. Fallout 3 and New Vegas have some pretty sick mods as well
Note that Redwood Reborn looks so good because it is a map from an Unreal asset store that someone took and just put in the game. So it was made by a professional team, not a modder.
Tale of two wastelands, Fallout New Vegas (and Fallout 3). Technically a mod for New Vegas, it builds Fallout 3 into the New Vegas engine and allows you to play through both games as a single character.

Sandstorm mods don't help much when the core gameplay is still the alphabet collection with spawn waves. Also my personal shout out to all the Tarkov single player mods.
Doom Eternal Kaisser Campaign is the best thing that ever happened to doom. If you didn't played yet, you should. But, it only works on official games, the mod has a validation system that don't work on pirated games.

And although GAMMA has a steep learning curve it can really be engaging and fun. However it is basically a double edged sword cause a lot of people are discovering the series through these mods and they want to change the sequel into something completely different from the spirit of the original games. I saw a comment on Drewski's video that got me pissed off. The guy was basically saying "Oh I love the game but is there a mod that gets rid of the magics (anomalies) and demons (mutants)" ? He basically wanted to erase anything iconic about the franchise and turn it into Tarkov 2.0.

Its good with additional mods, but its still plagued by performance problems. You will always get worse FPS with it because you are running the server.
I really want to get into PC gaming but I have theee issues stopping me 1) I'm not tech savvy when it comes to like having to fix files and stuff so that games work properly 2) don't know a good place to get like a decently made pre-built that I won't have to constantly upgrade to keep up with modern games and 3) no space in my room 😅
If you do light gaming and can extend your budget a little , a good gaming laptop is fine for most of this + gets rid of the lack of room. Also researching what gaming laptop is not that hard considering channels like jarrods tech exist and Reddit is full with FAQs about them
It seems daunting at first but there are tons of communities, forums, and discord channels full of people that are more than willing to help people out with modding bc it is complicated for the less than tech savvy people. I would have no business owning a pc if it weren't for the great geniuses that help me out.
Project reality (and squad) are NOT Milsim. The devs have been clear on this. They sit between Arma (mil sim) and Battlefield (casual) A tactical arcade shooter is a better description

It saddens me to hear Bad Company 2 is going to be shut down; that was one of the best online multiplayer experiences to me. Why is EA doing that? 0.o Makes me all the more glad Battlebit released this year. Guys PLEASE play the original Stalker games before Jumping into Anomaly or even Gamma. Those mods are not a replacement for the trilogy. They build upon it. You will get very confused and lost, and will receive very mean answers to your questions. I made that mistake, even though I love gamma, without playing the trilogy first, I missed so much and didn't understand many mechanics. So I beg you, try the trilogy first. Anomaly and it's derivatives are hardcore modpacks made for veteran Players.

As a fan of OG Stalker games - I don't like Anomaly and other hardcore mods. Most of the time they are just hard for the sake of being "realistic", which is just tedious. Anomaly is definitely not "the best way to play stalker". It a completely diffrent game on the same engine.

Gotta shout out Single Player Tarkov (SPT AKI). It's to Tarkov what Anomaly is to STALKER. Must-have and pretty simple to install, with a ton of support to customize the experience just like Anomaly and GAMMA.

The wildlands fps mod is a real game changer! Play on the hardest difficulty with no squad mates and no hud...one of the most immersive games ever!

Stalker Anomaly/GAMMA is the best game I played last year. It pulled my out of a Path of Exile addiction if that says anything.

Elden Ring's FPS mod is worth checking out. Especially so if you play it co-op, since it balances out the added difficulty a bit.

Ksp Realism Overhaul is one of the most complex mods ever and it should have been added to this list
Brutal DOOM is the most tip of the iceberg mod for DOOM, you can find so many better mods easily.
