do you fish in California ? what kind of jig or other do you use ?
We're from Vancouver Island, Canada, a lot of the time the black rockfish will hit a spoon when we're trolling for salmon, but for jigging I usually use a Gibbs-Delta Mac Fish 2.5oz Army Truck colour, or a 2oz P-Line Laser Minnow. Had good luck on both of those up here, don't see why they wouldn't work for you down there!

How heavy is the jig you are using
That orange jig was rather heavy, im not sure of the exact weight because the man in the tackle shop made it himself and i didn't see a weight. i just sorta picked it up and in my head was like *hmm yep its a little heavy but let's try it* i would say like 3 Oz could have even been more .
