    I use green crabs for catching Tog or Sheepshead they are great bait! Those excrete ammonia across their gills. If you let them sit for too long and pick them up without washing your hands they can leave burns if you have open cuts. I would never eat , or waste my time trying to catch those dirty things. Especially since I have access to better crabs such as the blue crab. 😋

    • @LostCoastLiving
      @LostCoastLiving 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing that, and I totally get where you’re coming from about green crabs being more of a bait choice! I actually focused on them in this video because they’re a pretty aggressive invasive species here. These little guys are causing a lot of trouble for native crabs and other marine life, so even though they’re not exactly a delicacy compared to blue crabs, removing them helps the local ecosystem. I wanted to show folks how serious their invasion has become around here and why efforts to control their population are picking up. Appreciate your perspective, though, and glad to hear they’re working well for you as bait!

      Hey, I really appreciate your concern, and trust me, I grapple with this issue quite a bit myself. Here’s how I think about it: Public Knowledge: The spot I featured is well-known and commonly used for dive training. Several local diving schools and classes utilize this location to safely teach newcomers from all over. It's not a secret spot by any means. though trust me i do keep the locals spots under wraps. i have alot of footage where it would be impossible for other to know where i am , unless they are local lol Educational Value: Part of my goal is to educate about responsible and safe diving practices. By showcasing accessible locations, I hope to encourage viewers to dive responsibly, aware of their surroundings and the impact they have on marine ecosystems. Community Building: I believe in fostering a community that supports outdoor activities while respecting nature. Sharing these locations can help build a community of informed and conscientious enthusiasts who look out for and protect these areas. I’m committed to promoting sustainability and responsible enjoyment of these beautiful spots. If you have any suggestions on how I can better balance showcasing these locations while preserving them, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

      Using jellyfish like blue snailers as a substitute fertilizer in your garden is an interesting idea! Jellyfish are mostly composed of water, but they also contain organic matter and nutrients that could potentially benefit your garden soil. Here’s a quick breakdown of what to consider: ### Pros: 1. **Nutrient-Rich**: Jellyfish contain nitrogen, potassium, and other trace minerals that are beneficial for plants. 2. **Organic Matter**: Adding them to compost could enhance the organic matter in your soil. 3. **Natural Mulch**: They could be used as a mulch layer to help retain soil moisture. ### Cons: 1. **Decomposition**: Jellyfish decompose quickly and can produce a strong odor, which might not be pleasant. 2. **Salt Content**: If the jellyfish come from the ocean, they might have high salt content, which could be harmful to your plants if not properly washed or processed. 3. **Pests and Diseases**: There’s a risk they could attract pests or harbor diseases. ### How to Use Them: 1. **Composting**: Add jellyfish to your compost pile, mixing them well with other compost materials to balance the moisture and reduce odor. 2. **Fermentation**: Some gardeners use a fermentation process (like making fish emulsion) to break down marine materials before applying them to the soil. 3. **Direct Application**: If you want to use them directly, make sure to rinse them well to remove excess salt, chop them into smaller pieces, and mix them into the soil. ### Tips: - **Moderation**: Start with a small amount and observe how your plants respond. - **Mixing**: Combine with other compost materials to ensure a balanced nutrient profile. - **Safety**: Wear gloves and handle with care to avoid any reactions. It’s definitely a unique and eco-friendly idea, just be cautious about the salt content and potential odors. Give it a try and see how your garden responds!

      @KristenDilligaf It looks like the best time to go mushroom hunting in Idaho for chanterelles is in the Spring and fall Especially after a good rain, make sure to find well draining Soil, usually on a Hillside, and if there's a lot of moss around that's a good Sign . Make sure you're near conifers or older growth trees because chanterelle are micorizal and work alongside tree systems to get their nutrients. Here in California I find chantrelles near oak but your area may be different, exciting!
