    I'd imagine this creature would be a lot more dangerous if they didn't destroy the souls after 1 minute. Imagine a soul eater has been rampaging through the countryside preforming hits on the local cults for a dark wizard, when the party finds it and kills it all the souls it has eaten are unleashed as a horde of very angry ghosts.

    Perhaps after a minute, the player who's soul has been eaten rolls a d4. 1 is int, 2 is wis, 3 is cha, 4 is reroll twice, ignoring rolls of 4. The selected stat is reduced to 1 if the player resurrected. If all of the stats reach 1, the soul cannot be recovered. Roll one at the end of each minute after the target has been eaten.

    Back in 3.5e Soul Eater was the name of a Book of Vile Darkness prestige class, the example image features a Mind Flayer consuming a soul.

    So first thoughts when I saw Soul Eater in my feed from AJ, first thought was "Oh, So AJ has met my ex-wife, and survived the encounter. But is so psychically scared by the encounter he wants to make a video about it. …. for that sir. I'm sorry, so sorry."
    7:05 Supreme hunters.... if you hide, they will find you. …. So is their real names Liam Neeson? all with a "particular set of skills.
    10:00 Mindflayers - could be a way to have MtG Warforged …… to use a card name would be a Replica gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?name=+[replica] have it when the being wakes up and realization of whats happened, make a "system shock" roll if they pass all knowlage is still in tact. if they fail, the knowlage is lost but the soul remains (starting over at level 1)

    • @DracosDiabolis
      @DracosDiabolis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thurismundbotheric7598 wow that was my point, it brings the 2 closer together in the contects of what AJ was saying for the idea with the mindflayers. within the dnd worlds and rules, Warforged have their own rules, setup and whatnot , this would be something different when you bring the lore of MtG. So using my knowlage of magic and dnd, is what I came up with. a basic hybrid of (enter race type here) and the warforged. for dnd game terms and rules. but used the lore from Magic.

    Woah, we are delving into Honorary-Core territory! While breaking traditional D&D trends, Kobold Press takes care to take new ideas, and adapt an occasional mythological or folklore critter.
    If I would make a commision on a further ToB monster, that would be Smaragdine Golem - not only they are magic-absorbing, lightning-spewing mage guards, they are also connected to mystery cults of Thoth-Hermes in native Midgard setting, making them easy to place in Faerun's Mulhorand.

      This vid started as an advanced access one for Patrons (I am releasing it now as they are getting a new one tomorrow), but I really like the Tome of Beasts and have no problem including the creatures in these video series, far as I am concerned, it is 5th editions version of the Fiend Folio.

    • @firetarrasque4667
      @firetarrasque4667 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Until 5th inevitably get's it's own version of the Fiend Folio, of course.

    • @TenositSergeich
      @TenositSergeich 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@firetarrasque4667 Given how "fast" 5e does things, we will see official Fiend Folio no earlier than year after next one. And it probably won't be a pure bestiary - more like VGtM and MToF. And that makes me sad - while fluff is great, it means that WoTC will never release these books as SRD - for example, Pathfinder has most of its corebook content found on internet, and with little more searching, one can find material from any book. I even feel that Tome of Beasts was created to fill that gap, as its monsters can be found on internet too.

    I have a magical great mace that is a borderline artifact weapon as a reoccurring item in my campaign. It was created in the Underdark from the soul of a great warrior (mercenary bordering on hero). It turned on its creators and hates illithid and drow. Now I have a monster that helps with its origin story. Thanks.

Anyway, I despise those, so unnatural, taking away what should be immortal and undying. Although, I still remember the dread of fighting those humanoid soul eater-things, no one was brave enough to get in close proximity.

Hundreds of monsters so complex I only want to use them every 2 or 3 adventures for sake of pacing. But that also means these videos of these monsters are incredibly useful

    I have an idea for a magical item it's a ring that lets you form a bond with any creature whenever you perform a significant favor for said creature without taking a reward. The owner of the ring can use the item to cast the message spell to get in contact with any or all of the creatures they've formed a bond with. Once called upon the creature or creatures will attempt to help the owner of the ring to the best of their ability.

Or would she be intent on destroying such knowledge, seeing it as an interference to her quest to fully take power via souls? Perhaps a little of both...?

    I would go with this being a transmuted drider of some sort, but I kinda have a thing for demon tribe stuff.
    I like narratives that tie certain demon tribes together with other demons, and Lolth-lings are not really detailed out enough.
    More over, if this is a drider changed by Lolth into it's current form, that allows the lore of Lolth to build. I think that Lolth is intentionally left vague. That works with the niche that she's in but it leaves something to be desired if the player character's, through their actions, start picking at that niche. Maybe they begin to ascend into a position directly opposed by Lolth or maybe directly inline with Lolth. At that point, the lore of the spider queen is going to start getting picked apart simply because of the narrative direction that the part undertakes at that point.

    Only way I will ever be in a campaign with Flayers is if I am not the DM and can't pick the monsters, in fact those squidgy cephalopods will not even be in my version of the DnD world. I hate Mind Flayers with a passion and will take levels in Psionics just to ward them and their ilk off, granted I want to play as a "beast summoner" in my PC role, mot the basic summoner no this is more akin to a Pokemon Trainer where I can tame beasts with the right spells and then summon them to help me regardless of their current plane. It would never work on anything immortal though and for sure not the infernal, my neutral good would never allow it.
