The actor for Aemond is so perfect. Ewan Mitchell perfectly captures the kid that was bullied and ridiculed his entire childhood (despite being raised alongside two bastards) who grew up and decided he's gonna become the bully himself, he's gonna be the one who makes others feel scared and insignificant. He learned how to fight, tamed the largest dragon, gained the confidence he needed and you can see it in the body language, how he carries himself, the smug smile, the intimidating nature... what a performance. And he is smart, he understands that the tensions are the highest they have been in a very long time and that war is just behind the corner, when Vhagar kills Lucerys he immediately realizes the consequences of his actions.

Did the books really say Aemond was constantly bullied by the valerian kids ? I'm not sure if I buy it was that bad of billing.
I think we also so often forget that this is a DISABLED man, who was disabled at a pivotal age. You can see how that fact festered and developed over the years...first he is on a high from getting a dragon out of it, but he then feels that it is not enough and wants an eye for an eye. He (and probably everyone else) sees it as a weakness just like not having a dragon was a weakness. He is traumatised and will keep going in circles trying to heal his ableism..first a dragon, then an eye, what's next? Aemond is the most complex, well written character I've ever known.
He looks 30 and plays a 16 year old character.

He wears an eyepatch to not scare the ladies at the court, Daemon wouldn't do that he'd prob throw tantrum how dare they not find him attractive.
Aemond and Daemon are very different people imo, the only same thing is that they're good fighters.

He is better than daemon in fighting too coz if you remember in the very beginning sir caristan Cole defeated daemon badly and now aemond defeated sir Cole easily while having a sword session .
Aemond has left such an impression on audiences only after a very limited time on screen when competing with some other very dynamic and complex characters for attention.
And when the show is over? The edits of him will be absolutely magnificent.
The One Eyed Prince. The Bullied Dragon. Aemond is such a good character. He’s the true dragon among the Greens. Powerful. Intelligent. Skilled. But his flaw is that he takes things too far and thus he fired the first shot on the ending of the Age of Dragons. What an awesome tribute to such a character
He’s the best character so far, he’s had so much development and he’s so hot. His story is truly amazing and I can’t wait to see how he progresses.
Aemond made his presence so known with three episodes and minimum screen that's how good of characters he is and how charismatic the actor is.

This line goes way harder in the show when you consider that it was said in hindsight in the book years after the fact but while he’s still reeling from the attack, he still has the clarity and foresight to calm Alicent down and prove why Vhagar allowed him to claim her in the first place.
Yeah but then as an adult he proceeds to go back on those same words and holds a grudge for something he supposedly already paid the price of. "A fair exchange" becomes "a debt to repay"... It's like he forgot his own words.
@@ivyskies he said that to defuse her mother’s tension and calm her down. And besides, it’s not weird for a person to hold a grudge over losing an eye especially when his own father didn’t even make sure that he was okay but instead focus on rhaenyra and her kids. aemond was just a kid and the only person who got his back was alicent. Everyone else were too busy trying to cover up the obvious lie that they forgot an actual child has lost his eye.

Leo Ashton and Ewan Mitchell portray Aemond perfectly. Aemond never meant to kill Lucerys, he only meant to scare his nephew. Aemond is such an intriguing character, both good and bad. He didn’t mean to kill Lucerys, and he feels genuine regret, remorse and shame.
Unfortunately, no one will believe him and when B&C appear this will cause the monster inside of him to be unleashed. I’m looking forward to Ewan Mitchell in S2.
He likes to posture as the villain but we see how in other times he is quite moral and decent and reticent but I think when some of his family is killed he will lose his young self that's mainly posturing and desperate for battle and I think he'll grow into someone who can match Daemon in viscousness ,love the actor and I think the younger boys did a great job making you feel protective over them and scared with Luke.
Even though it was unintentional, it came across that he regretted killing Lucerys but only because of the consequences of that act. He knows that as a result of killing Lucerys that he guaranteed a war, when it wasn't necessarily going to happen otherwise.

Ewan Mitchell is the embodiment of what I imagined Aemond to be while I was reading the book and the sapphire eye did not disappoint. I can't wait to see the fleshed out and nuanced the portrayal is going to be seeing that they are taking that route with him since ep 8.
Also, I wish we get the same nuance and brilliance in writing with Aegon 'cause his relationship with the golden king, Sunfyre is my absolute favourite part in the entire ASOIAF lore.
They really nailed the casting for Aemond. Both of the young actors did a great job.

Just with a few minutes of screentime he's on so many people's dp! The impact he's created in so little time just shows how great the charechter is and how good the casting was for the charechter. Aemond is the best charechter for me in the show. The boy was mocked for not having a dragon, so he claimed the biggest dragon alive, lost an eye for it. And eventually paid the debt back with interest.

Ewan Mitchell captures the essence of character progression for Aemond, who was bullied and belittled as a child to now owning the largest dragon to currently live, Vhagar, and the prowess he has in skill at arms. You see it in everything he does, he makes an impact everytime he's on screen. I enjoyed the change from the books, where it assumes that Aemond intentionally killed Lucerys but we see him not being able to handle Vhagar, a seasoned and battle tested dragon, when he's trying to play mind games with Quicksilver and Lucerys.
Highly anticipating the return of Ewan Mitchell in season 2 as Aemond, as well as hopefully seeing Daeron the Daring casted perfectly.

Aemond stole the show. In just a few minutes of screen time he managed to become an iconic tv character and absolute fan favorite. With his commanding presence, sharp mind, fighting skills, badass personality, sapphire eye, true valyrian features and the biggest dragon in the world he's easily the coolest Targaryen ever lived. Sex appeal, intense gaze and subtle swagger don't hurt either.
Brilliant edit! In just 3 episodes and 15min of screentime Ewan Mitchell's Aemond stole the show for me and the foundations were perfectly laid by Leo Ashton! Love Aemond Targaryen, his story is very compelling to me

At first I started the show bc my brother who had read the books was interested in it, and I liked GOT. Mat Smith with his amazing performance was making me like Daemon in a few instances. But then, the Aemond that was my brother's fav showed up, and I was really interested. He became my fav when he claimed Vhagar and then that fight scene just enforced it. Leo Ashton did a fantastic job. To say nothing of Ewan Mitchell and how he had me hooked to every little scene he was in! I watched TLK bc of him and he's one of my fav actors now.
Aemond in claiming Vhagar didn't even do anything wrong, dragons don't belong to anyone, the Valaryon's didn't have a claim over Vhagar, and Rhaena had zero claims over her at all. Aemond made the fall first and bonded with Vhagar period. Lucerys taking Aemonds eye was ridiculous and uncalled for and downright barbaric. Aemond would have turned out to be a kind-hearted good man had his brother and nephews not bullied him about something so historically important to the Targaryens. Aemond had a sad anti-villain AND anti Hero story, and I am living for it. Lucerys knew he was wrong for taking Aemonds eye, he was a coward and a bully, just because you are a child doesn't mean you don't receive repercussions, did he deserve to die? No. Yet did he deserve a taste of his own medicine? YES!
Maybe the most cool character of all House of the Dragon by far.
Aemond is a tragic character. His child actor and his adult actor played their parts with perfect authenticity.

Do not mourn me, mother. It was a fair exchange. I may have lost an eye, but I gained a dragon (Aemond Targaryen). This line alone stole the show and represented Aemond as a powerful young man who will be a badass when he grows older.
Great edit! It's incredible how Aemond managed to steal the show despite having so little screentime, and both actors who play him are amazing. Leo was the best among the kid actors and I truly felt for little Aemond and his plight. And Ewan can just stand there menacingly without a word and all attention will be on him, he looks like a volcano about to erupt at any moment.
People will call me stupid but i love Aemond more than Daemon.
I know the greens started this , and that we *should* be on team black. But i told my wife the same thing , aemond deserves the throne . He’s the reason alone i am team green all the way.
The best character definitely. Even if you hate him, you can’t deny the incredible writing behind his character. I dont think he is a villain completly, he had a complex of inferiority when he was a kid and had to proof himself constantly for this. He will definitely be the highlight of the series.
I see him mostly as a victim. Of bullying first, and now of the condition of his position as the rider of Vahgar in the upoming war.

@@adbylsh2756 right? it's even said in the book that "it's not a reliable source" and it's made clear that the book is written by historians who told the events based on rumors and bias~ so we know what happened, but not how exactly, the historians could've changed many details and wrote it the way they want it, I don't know why many fans are still confused about it

Aemond's expression just screamed "What have I just done?". Leo and Ewan have done a wonderful job portraying the "Kinslayer". Your edit was excellent as well.
The quote of Viserys, which emphasize that they don’t and can’t control dragons and it is an illusion, was really crucial. Especially for the last scene. It is excellent that you touched upon that.

Exactly. And this is what irritates me so much about most fandom, which is mostly team black psycho-fans, they are so biased. They even claim Aemond deserved to lose his eye because "he started the fight". I wholeheartedly disagree, I don't cheer for any side and to me Aemond is the victim. But you can't even have a decent discussion with most people, as they are completely biased.

Aemond was clearly just trying to scare his nephew, he is very skilled in combat but also educated in history and philosophy so he knows Kinslaying is the biggest sin, a stain that doesn't go away even after your death. He also thought he deserved to be king instead of his brother but refused to play into that idea and is willing to marry for duty to his family
Aemond has the same choice Jaime Lannister had after killing the King and becoming the kingslayer... try to explain it to deaf ears or embrace the infamy, wearing it like armor so he doesn't get hurt.
I like how this Aemond is not the mad dog that he is in the books, he really only wanted to spook Luke only for vhagar to shit all over it...

That's the important lesson, he fucked around and found out. We have to remember that he's still a teenager, he's never actually seen a dragon in action before, he's never been in war before but of course for Vhagar this is not a game, she gets in action mode the instant theyre following them and then when Arrax burns her its inevitable. At the end of the day they're animals and they will choose fight over flight 9 times out of 10. This is what happens when you give children weapons of mass destruction that they, in the end, have limited control over.
Uhh the book isn’t accurate, it’s a retelling of events with biases why doesn’t this fandom understand that about Fire and Blood. It’s not the Silmarillion with fact based history
"Debt" or the "Debt Collector" is a perfect word for Aemond.
-First he approaches Vhagar because he feels that life owes him a debt for not being born with his Dragon.
-Then he moves on to get revenge on Lucerys because he feels she owes him a debt for her eye.
-Then he moves in revenge of Daemon to collect the debt of "Blood and Cheese" towards his nephews.
Not forgetting that he becomes Aegon's regent and his enforcer, punishing people and rewarding them as a debt collector.

Watching interviews with the actor and the director about the way young Aemond is, I can't help but feel like I am a bad person for understanding him and not judging him for the way he reacts to his bullies (his own family). I would be petty too lol. C'mon, his own nephew cut his eye! Be arrogant lil boy, I support you.

His brother never needed his help if I'm being real he had it on lock the dust was enough the dude couldn't see and was temporarily incapacitated the could've made it out safely but no they took his eye as well.
