I always felt like an outsider in my family. Especially with my older sister. She was always better than me, and was always insulting me all my life. Whenever I tried to do anything new or to be good at something, she'd always tell me how awful I was at everything. She had everything I wanted, pretty, smart, great artist, popular, She had my parent's love and pride, and they'd give her all the money and anything else she wanted, while they still refuse to let me go to college. I had social anxiety, I did have one thing over her, a cat. I found a baby kitten outside, very clean looking with no claws, so I assumed it had an owner. I put up signs and asked all my neighbors, but no one claimed her. So I took her in. She was beautiful, and everyone wanted to play with her and pet her, but she only wanted to be around me, she followed me everywhere and only let me play with her. I finally felt wanted, even if it was just a cat. I cried to her, I talked to her, and even though she couldn't understand me, I felt understood for once. My sister hated the cat, at first she thought it was cute, but the cat would always run away from her, so she started getting mad that it was always inside and whenever she saw the cat, she'd throw it outside, despite me warning her multiple times that the cat had no claws and couldn't defend herself. One night, my younger brother told me my sister had droven over my cat. It was already dead when he found it, and I knew it must be my sister who let her out because she was the only one who threw her outside. I fell on the ground, I couldn't stop crying and hyperventilating, I had to keep hitting my chest to breathe. My brother buried the cat, I couldn't look at her once. I still regret that, but in the moment, it felt like she could still be alive if I didn't look at her dead. My eyes were bloodshot and red, and my face was incredibly swollen for 2 days afterwards from all my crying. The next day was my sister's birthday, and she was having a party. My parents asked me to make decorations and I'd made them all before my cat died, in fact that's the reason I wasn't watching her that night. I would've been fine, I wouldn't have snapped, I even put up all the decorations, if my sister hadn't come up to me, looked me in my clearly swollen face with bloodshot eyes, and said, "Take down the banner. Your handwriting looks bad." I went into the garage, and ripped the banner, I ripped all my decorations into pieces, I threw the cake on the ground and took my parent's present to her, a nice tea set, and smashed it on the ground. I came inside, looked her in the eyes and said, "I hate you so much. You couldn't handle having one thing love me more than you, huh? I wish you were dead instead." Walked into my room, and slammed the door. No one came in for hours, I expected my parents to come and yell at me, but when someone finally came in, it was my sister, and she was crying. She looked at me and apologized. She told me all her life she felt like she had to be perfect and nothing less, our parents put so much pressure on her, and she always took the anger out by being mean to me. She always though deep inside, we both still loved each other and what she did wasn't affecting me too much, but when she heard me say that to her, she realized just what she had done. How she made me feel and how she had taken away the one thing I had. She realized she had made me hate her. I found out the last few hours I had been in my room, she had called off the party, and cleaned up the garage. We had a heart to heart for a few hours and we became close again after that night along with the rest of my family.The weird thing was, I asked her why she put the cat outside that night and she said she hadn't. I remembered that night my parents weren't home, and my sister was in the garage all night, cleaning and moving stuff around. She wasn't in the living room once, and my brother was helping her, while I was in the kitchen making decorations. If either of them had come inside, I would've seen. My sister left though the garage door to go to the store as well. I know this probably isn't true, but it gives me great peace to believe in my heart that everything happens for a reason, and my cat died for the purpose of bringing my family together, and nothing could've stopped that, even with no-one opening the door.
