  • Most people focus on the three standard Weber kettles: the Original, Premium, and Master Touch, but there is another fancier tier called the Performer. I picked on up from the local classifieds and dig into why someone would want to buy one over the Master Touch . . . OR NOT!
    This video shows the difference between the three other kettles:

    I have the deluxe model and it's awesome. The auto starter is so handy. The work surface is great, spacious, and so convenient. I've really enjoyed using this kettle. I've smoked on it and grilled. Works great.

    Good review on the Performer. I own several Webers and the Performer is my go to. A couple of points I would add are stability (it doesn’t wobble when you scrape the grate) and Rollability (very easy to move and your work surface comes right along). It’s nice to have a surface where you can wrap you ribs right away.

    • @GrillTopExperience

      It definitely is more stable and at 91 pounds it likes to stay where it is unless you give it a bit more encouragement than scraping the grates. Thanks for the feedback!

      My workhorse for years is teh fold down table version. Absolutely the most underrated grill in the lineup. Whichever you buy, once you've owned a couple, the real best cooker for teh money is a Weber 26. It just allows soooo much versatility. If they made a 26 inch performer and charged $575-$600, that would be the greatest grill/smoker combo on the planet.

    I kinda miss the plastic table. After having 2 performers with the metal tables, within 2 years of purchasing, both of them started bubbling the coating off, and then the rust came. One was covered under a carport, the other was not covered under carport. They both had the same problem.

    Great review - thank you for emphasizing the height difference, which can seem like a small thing but isn't. I'm going to add my two cents on the optional touch n' go propane ignition system. I have it, and so do two of my neighbors. We all regret buying it. The long flame tube is exposed to the heat and drippings during cooking, and corrodes horribly after just a few months. All of ours have stopped working. It's really just a complex failure point. Worse, the ignition button for the system is so flimsily mounted that all of ours broke within the first few uses just from the pressure of pushing the button! Replacing any of the components seems pointless, since the design is so bad they will fail shortly. The sad part is that the theory behind the system is good, but the components they used are terrible.

      I've owned 20 or so Performers. after the first year using the propane system I figured out that weber lighter cubes are inexpensive and when used with a chimney will have your coals going in 10-15 minutes without worrying about the time you left your propane going or if you're going to run out of propane. I highly recommend teh weber lighter cubes.

      You are right, you can make the same food on the least expensive kettle as you can on the performer. That thermometer is in the wrong place 100% of the time too. I watched Chud's video yesterday and one of the first things he did was poke a hole to put the thermometer on the right side!

    • @michaelmurray5578
      @michaelmurray5578 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love my performer deluxe, but man that grill grate is not good. The thick bars are nice, but I had the same feelings you do about the center falling out whenever moving it around. Plus, by around the 3 year mark it was over 70% covered in rust. Whatever they plate it with just doesn't last. I'm a big proponent of getting an aftermarket fully 304 stainless steel grate as a lifetime replacement.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as Weber grates go, the hinged grate that comes with the premium kettle is the best. Like you said, there are a lot of after market options and I have a few of those stainless grates too. They are nice because you don't have to be as worried that you'll toast that plating and make them rust.

    • @bwkirschner
      @bwkirschner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This seems like SUCH a design flaw… I keep thinking that I must be doing it wrong, because no one who actually uses a grill would’ve designed something that falls out this easily. I mean, I’ve even had the center piece flip while I’m scraping the grate; NOT cool when it’s hot (that pun wasn’t intended, but I’m proud of it now!)! I don’t have any accessories for it yet-are they useful enough to make up for the flaw in the center?

    • @BezmenovDisciple

    Any of the webers are good. Their best value one for most will be the 47cm Compact. Still a family sized one but for the money is a bargain. Not so much the higher end models. For those wanting bigger, the 57cm is fine and cheaper to but than the all singing dancing ones. Just buy meat thermometers and add a deeper ash collection tray and you can still use the optional griddles etc without the price tag of the premium models. Lots if the features on the expensive ones are more gimmicky than essential anyway. A steak won’t care which model it’s grilled on😊

    • @GrillTopExperience

      That's true, you can cook great food on any of them. The 18" is too small for a full brisket, but other than that it is pretty close. I've had quite a few people tell me the 26" is the way to go. Preference plays into it a bunch. I'll pull out the Smokey Joe and save the charcoal on a smaller cook

      If you plan to keep your 22 or 26 inch kettle the best upgrade you can make is investing in a killagrilla grate, they are super thick heavy duty stainless and the one I prefer is the one that has a flip up hinge on one side under which I keep a smoke n sear. The smoke n sear isn't a must have accessory but it lives in my 22 at the house. I wish I bought it for the 26 instead.
