Minn Kota Ultrex Install and Set up Configuration

- Jump in the boat with TJ and install and configure his new Minn Kota Ultrex trolling motor. There are 3 additional steps to configure the motor before the spot lock can be used.
1. Pair the heading sensor with the Ultrex trolling motor. Press the button on the heading sensor and it will flash rapidly. Quickly got to the Ultrex and hold the pair button until the Ultrex beeps. Release. They are now paired. The heading sensor will flash red every 3 seconds.
2. Configure the sensor by using your remote. Go to sensor cal, press start and drive the boat in 2 complete circles. Once complete the remote will designate that the calibration is complete
3. Configure the sensor off set using the remote. Go to sensor off set and hit ok, point the motor at 12 o'clock ad the remote will set the offset. Hit ok.
And you can now use spot lock with confidence.

I just had a Minn Kota Terrova installed and no one showed me anything. I learned a lot from this one video. Appreciate the help. From what I can see the only difference between the Terrova and the Ultra is the remote stowaway and deploy.

The heading sensor is an electronic compass and should NOT be installed next to your electronics or ferrous metals. Lots of folks mounting this sensor waaaay to close to the electronics and the trolling motor. The sensor can be mounted any were in the boat. Just make sure to align it with the keel of the boat.

Good video. When you done the sensor off set, did the remote say done, ok what ever. My remote said 6 degrees , I hit the check button, no feadback from remote. Thanks
Same here. Everytime I try to set the offset I can't get a reading unless the trolling motor is facing the boat. If I face the head forward the remote says the offset is too large.

Do you have the 45" shaft in the video? How do you determine the depth of your trolling motor when deployed? Great video by the way.
When im ready to set the offset, I face the head forward and I get no reading and when i press set it says "offset too large" I can't get an offset reading unless I spin my trolling motor completely around and face towards the boat. What am I doing wrong??

Can I connect my heading sensor directly to my cranking battery with an inline fuse? Some forums say it will shut off when I shut the troll motor off, others say it will drain the battery... TIA
Nice bro...is the spot lock hard on battery?
No, it actually only uses the power needed to stay. So it compensates and auto chooses the setting.
when using spot lock does it matter what speed is set at or does it adjust speed as needed on own?
Hi I have a terrova I pilot and for some reason when I push the anchor button it says SL TMP. And it only stays in spot lock for maybe 5 minutes then goes back to normal. Also nowhere on my remote is the calibration setting. If I dont have the gps puck paired would this cause the problem? Thanks

Thanks but I couldn't follow what buttons you pushed. You appeared to hit 3 different buttons at the end of the process on the remote? Seems to be quite a procedure to set things up to get it working.
You know I just had one installed...I didn't calibrate mine and it seems to work fine. Remote works in spot lock, GO TO, Cruise control and Auto Pilot. Just get out there and play with it. Its electric steer so its a lot different than the old cable style. Very soft pedal...turns with no effort and so dam silent.

It looked like you added a transducer to the motor, what transducer was that? Are you not using the US2 to the Lowrance?
Travis that is correct. I am not. The US2 is 2d only. I use down imaging at times so I needed the HDI transducer.

I am using the Lowrance spotlight scan transducer. But a normal HDI is good too.

Cant the circle cal be done on the big engine as well?
Yes you can do it with the trolling motor, big motor or in a parking lot with your truck and trailer.
Directions say to use the big motor when doing circles with trolling motor in the water

Hi Nicholas, the tray is standard on my 2008 Z520. It is fiberglassed in and has a aluminum rim trim piece.
So thy trolling motor is not connected to fish finder huh?
No it’s not connected as I am using Lowrance transducers
As part of the $3000 price tag, the ultrex will link up to your graphs, and run in auto pilot mode. You can tell it to go in X direction, at Y speed, and keep you in Z depth. So why would you say NO to those features by NOT using hummingbird graphs???
Because you have to use hummingbird electronics to use that feature. I have Lowrance.

This not true the ultrex will work right out of box without heading sensor and remote .gps built into trolling motor
