  • Join us as we take a trip into Talkeetna, Alaska during the winter. We stopped into our favorite Restaurant and enjoy a nice hot lunch and ice cold beer from Denali Brewing. Then walk around the quaint little town of Talkeetna. Stopping by the Talkeetna Toadhouse and the Alaska Railroad depot to watch a train pull out of the station.
    Talkeetna, Alaska is a quaint little town located where three rivers come together, the Susitna, Shulitna and the Talkeetna. Talkeetna began as a town in 1916 when it became the district headquarters for the Alaska Railroad.
    Talkeetna offers some awesome opportunities for adventurers of all kinds and is well known as a base station for climbers attempting to ascend Denali Mountain (North America’s highest point 20,320’). Talkeetna also offers flight-seeing, rafting, mountain biking, camping, fishing and hunting.
    Talkeetna is also home of the Denali Brewing Company a small micro brewery that began selling beer in 2009. By 2011 they had become so popular they had to relocate their brewery to a larger facility to accommodate the demand for their beer. They make some of the best beer in Alaska and have both a great restaurant in town and their brewery where you can sample their products.
    If you go to Talkeetna and you are their during breakfast hours you absolutely must go to the Talkeetna Roadhouse. They are well known for their pancakes which are bigger than the plate they are served on. Simply put I have never had a meal there I didn't enjoy. But be prepared to make some new friends a they serve their meals family style. You don't get your own table, but you find an open chair with strangers and enjoy a great meal together and perhaps make a new friend along the way.
    The Alaska Railroad still operates trains into and out of Talkeetna and we happened to be lucky enough to catch a train as it was pulling out of the station on this winter day. During the summer the Alaska Railroad operates several tourist trains which will take you to places like; Talkeetna, Seward, Denali, Fairbanks and other hidden gems in Alaska.
    No trip to Alaska would be complete without a trip to Talkeetna and all the wonders there are to see. It is much more lively during the summer and offers great opportunity for people watching and a stroll down by the riverside.

      Thanks Donna. We are really looking forward to getting started, when we head off to Montana. Planning on doing a lot of hiking, and exploring in Glacier National Park.

      Alan, it's a cool town with a great vibe. Summer is the best time to sit on the deck of the restaurant, have a great lunch with a beer and people watch.

    We rode that train to Talkeetna on our honeymoon trip in 2004! (we got married in our 40's) Loved that little town. We ate reindeer sausages at a little restaurant. That was a great trip, one week land tour and one week cruise. LOL we did the trip in June though!

      Talkeetna was one of our favorite little towns. I rode the train into Talkeetna once for work related reasons. It is much nicer in the summer than in the winter. But it is still interesting in the winter. Sounds like a fun cruise.

    What an amazing video!! I have been invited to Alaska (my cousin had 3 tours to Sitka) and we have yet to go! They are retiring there so we are going to have to make that trek. It has been on the bucket list, just not good with timing. I loved the train, the moose, and that general store. Cool story there!

    In my 20+ years in Alaska I visited Talkeetna once with my sister. Definitely a must see town, and, yes, food is delicious! Thank you.

    We are going to Talkeetna next month. We are so excited for our first trip to Alaska. We are visiting Dallas Seavey’s place and meeting his dogs. We will try all the places y’all suggested. Thank you for the travel tips. ❤️

      That's awesome. I am so excited for you, it's one of our favorite places in Alaska. Make sure you try the sweet potatoe fries at Denali Brew Pubs restaurant. They're amazing.

      They are truly awesome animals to see. Keep in mind though what a lot of people don't realize, they can be dangerous. So enjoy from a distance and give them plenty of space.

      These will be some important ones. We were just beginning our TH-cam journey at the time so. An important thing to know about the Alcan trip is timing. Nothing along the Alcan really opens until May.

      @@RoamingwiththeRamsays may ? We were planing to cross the border weather depending in March. Fuel to include propane seams to be the issue

    • @RoamingwiththeRamsays
      @RoamingwiththeRamsays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertnasser9937 the real issue is a place to stop for the night. Fuel is pretty available. Alice and I left Alaska April 15 2020 and not a single campground was open. No dump stations or potable water available, due to freezing temperatures. Having snow chains is required fit certain sections of the road. You mentioned Salmon fishing, you will want to go to Cooper's Landing for that and fish the Russian River.

    Wow! I can the chilly weather. Can dogs really resist the snow or it varies from breed?

    • @RoamingwiththeRamsays
      @RoamingwiththeRamsays  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some dogs are much better equipped to handle the cold weather than others. Their fur acts as an insulating blanket for them. Glad you enjoyed the video.
