Visiting ALASKA on a BUDGET?!? [And in winter, too!?!?]

- In this travel vlog, I’ll take you along with me for my first full day in Anchorage, Alaska! This can sometimes be seen as an expensive destination, but I’ll show you my cheap(er) hotel room, my strategy for saving on meals, and one free thing to do! I’ll even sample a beer from the local brewery!

Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. Hey Maddie, just discovered your channel (fantastic). Every trimester break, i’ll go on what i call a run-cation. A solo adventure where i go trail run somewhere far far away from dallas, texas. This april am traveling to southeast utah, your videos inspired to me to start documenting my journey and experiences, so that i may forever remember those memories: the good and the bad.

Lol. Sometimes I watch my old videos and just wonder what I was thinking. There are some hilarious moments out there. That think keeps your hand from freezing while you hold your beer. It’s nice to be comfortable.

I liked how the store kept the Beer in a refrigerator/cooler …. The beer probably got chilled on your walk back to the hotel…. Congrats on ALASKA 🍺🍺🍺🍺
Yeah!! Normally when I pack beer in a backpack, I think “how can I insulate this?“ but there was no need on that walk!!

Congratulations on 49 states. Just found your channel. I’am from Ky too. I spend my summers Jeep camping. I only have the lower 48 done. Looking forward to your Appalachian trail videos.

That's smart to take the time to stock up and make food at the hotel. I should try to do more of that in my car.
Do you have a 12v plug in freezer / 900 watt microwave and a 2000 watt inverter? I'm a full time trucker that's my setup . I leave the freezer plugged in but it might drain your battery overnight since cars have 1 battery I have 6 .
It's possible to run more batteries in parallel to your electric system to avoid this but that would honestly be out of my experience! I'm sure someone has a video on it good luck!

If I never do go to Hawaii, Alaska is my final state too. Would love to take my dad there, he wanted to move there when I was little (so my mom says) but my mom put her foot down and we stayed in CT. Thanks for the intel on the door (ha ha!) and for taking us along! I'm sure you have a mental photo album of memories in addition to the videos and pics. Looking forward to giving you some trail magic when you come to CT this year on the AT.
I sure do! Sometimes I bummed I don’t get moments on video, but then I think, well, maybe that can be a memory I don’t share, just keep in my head! Alaska was incredible! Even though people told me summer is better up there, it was cool seeing this winter wonderland!

Y'know---if you used a can opener to remove the top and bottom of cool beer cans, squashed the cans flat and saved them, you could keep them for a cool project ... like maybe a wall covering in a van ... or ...

It is!! And this was just a small bite of all the cool things I saw!
Hope you have a wonderful trip! Here are a couple of hacks or tips from when I went to Alaska, I stayed in youth hostels and it was pretty cheap and I got to make my own food there and I met some people. One time when I went on a cruise ship to Alaska I had found out from a local that there was a bus that would take me to the glacier , from one of the port of calls, $4 instead of paying for the tour. I realize you're already going on the tour since you have that video out but that could be a hack for something else. Also you can check on local Municipal buses to take you around when you have a few days in a certain area. Lastly, I hope you are going to the Iditarod start. I got to go to the start when they started in Fairbanks instead of Anchorage due to a lack of snow. And it was amazing!

Oh cool!! On ur way back to the lower 48, check out Vancouver Island on ur way by, it’s beautiful here, just watch out for cougars but to be honest I’ve only seen 2 an I’ve worked in the forest for over 20 years. Lol
I already left, unfortunately. I did think about going there though!! I’ll have to save it for another time!

my hike down the grand canyon was in 3 feet of snow it was so cold on 23rd

@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces whiteout didn't make all the way to north rim it had 5 feet of snow. got some amazing pictures and a story. not many people so peaceful.

One of the two state's I have not been to. Looks like you have some sun burn or wind burn on your face. I know sun can reflect off the snow and cause sunburn take care and enjoy yourself and stay safe.
That might just have been my face turning red in the cold! I sure don’t remember feeling sun/wind burnt, and it was very freezing out there

Maddie, good luck on the A-Frame Cabin. Housing in America is oppressively costly. And the maintenance of a cabin makes a cabin not practical at all.
Please note that I said dream house, not house I plan on moving in to!

Me if I find a beer I like from a certain brewery in a state. I drink one and keep a full one or two as a show an tell item.
