Thx for the tips! Decided to try this game out of pure boredom and got immediately hooked! My gf was like this game is so lame, 10 minutes later she's trying to tell me which cards to play 😂

Played this game quite a lot, already “beat” it but I’ve recently come back to it and for a few runs the first big boss kept killing me which I was confused for since I remember it being simple before. And I did a sentinel run and got lucky with a few cards / runestones and a got a build broken af. I ended up killing the last boss in 2 turns😂. I’d just end the turn and for every arrow I’d discard id get like 100% damage. And another skill I got was each discard filled my passive ability. So I’d start the next round with the ability and nearly 1000% damage. So I’d Practically one shot everyone

It might be true that you can unlock or trigger (new) stuff when not burning candles, I don't know.
But I do know that when burning candles, your Wyrd cards that you get during your fights will get more positive. In fact, if you burn/activate as much as you can (fill up the circle) you can get pretty damn awesome random Wyrd-cards. And you burn only 1 or even none, you will most often get pretty crappy/negative cards...
So perhaps time the lighting of the candles while you are about to fight for a treasure (once per area) or against a boss. Those treasure fights can sometimes be even more difficult than the actual boss fight of the area.
Yeah it's one of those. They can help. Having more helps to. Maybe saving them for the last area would be smart too. 🤔

Why do you recommend walking around without wyrdcandles burning? While they burn, that's how you earn tallow, and if you enter combat with no candle lit the tainted cards will ruin you. You find the witches village through exploration with no candle, are there more?
There's a lot more in game events that trigger only if your not burning candles.
aren't the tainted cards way harder as well when you aren't burning candles? compared to either none or easy ones
The candles if unused are still exchanged for tallow at the end of your run, ready for the next run. As for events with out spoilers, I can confirm what The Critically Clueless says that there are many events that only trigger when you have NO wyrd candle burning, some of these aren't fights so you can light a wyrd candle after and ones that are fights you can get a bad tainted card but use wyrd candles during the fight to be safe for the rest of the fight without messing up the event.
For normal, treasure and boss fights, you can just use wyrd candles right before you start them.

does choosing no bonus at the start of the run give you any benefits? Or is it just a hardcore challenge?
Nope, nothing extra
I have a dumb question: if you have energy left but no cards and no special class abilities left, is there something you can do with it? The reason I ask is it makes a big deal of you knowing you’re ending your turn with energy, but if you can’t use it, why does the game care?
There are passives and ruins you cam use that do help with that.

When I die have to start over completely are their no save points
I was burning the candles thinking that was what gave me the more positive tainted cards and I got negative ones when I wasn’t burning them. Otherwise why does it let you trigger them during combat?
I believe it charges your ultimate in battle, but yeah best to save them really 🖖
That's correct. It's based on the burn level, not the amount of candles you have.
I had a lot of trouble beating the first section with the first class available but once I got the summoner class, I was able to advance a lot! Is it me of this first class is just terrible? Or maybe I don't play it correctly... I unlocked a lot of cards for it too but its never really good. Compared to the Summoner where I end up being ultra broken with mega combo and huge minions on my side with 400% buff and what not. In your playthrought did you see some unbalance between the classes? To be fair I only played the first class that i can't remember the name, barbarian like dude , the arrow dude and the summoner class which is awesome.
The summoners are by far the strongest classes. The first character can be tough mainly bc your learning. Once you get into the swing it's pretty easy but all 3 summoners out play the other 6 🖖
I had the same experience as you, summoners are OP and default class is trash 😂
Just let people live the normal experience by failing.
