I love this idea and it's a great way to break the preciousness of a brand-new sketchbook. I often break-in a new sketchbook with swatching or mixing exercises.
I always skip the first 3-6 pages depending on how many pages are in the sketchbook … then I have room to come back when it’s not ‘new’ anymore… 🤔 Hmmm, I wonder if that means I never really ‘start a new sketchbook’ ? 😂
I love these exercises you make- as a someone who suffers from executive dysfunction, sometimes I’m paralyzed by all the do’s and dont’s. This allows me to remember why I like paint - colours, texture, looks :)
to break the illusion of preciousness in my sketchbooks, I flip through them and admire their clean beauty, and then I throw them down some stairs and rough them up a little 😂
My dog chewed on my favorite sketch book, and actually, at first, I was mad, but now I'm really happy that she did that. It adds character, and it really makes me explore more into my artistic abilities. Because I'm not scared of ruining it. Because I don't have stairs. 😅
OH and you could write in a title of the sketchbook, weather the number of the sketchbook or a nickname for the sketchbook, and go in with white pens and highlight the sides, and take like a pastel green color and shade around the words. 😍
Thank you so much- I've been drawing in pencil since I can remember (pretty good if I may say so), but I hear constantly that most graphite artists grasp color once they start painting, and I've always wanted to expand into color, but never felt confident enough to spend on the supplies, got gifted some and well your videos make me feel like I could actually use em if not maybe get good, thanks :) huge inspiration of mine right now you are, love all the color schemes you use
I really like your style of teaching. It’s so low pressure and comfy but informative. It’s very “do what you want, but this is how” and I appreciate it a lot!
Do you order sketchbooks online? Wow. I just got to Michael's and got a five dollar one. Any recommendations that I should try? (I use markers sometimes, but mostly pencil and black liners, I don't do blending often and go for a medium-sized sketchbook most of the time. If you do respond, I think that is important information for recommendations.)
@@Waffles2009 yeah I wanted special mixed media paper so I bought one from the brand Ohuhu! In my country they don’t really sell “medium budget” sketchbooks in stores
Thank you…ive really wanted to started water painting and you have the best exercises. Plus i do this with my grandchildren who are becoming amazing artist.
I find it fun that you use both sides of a sketchbook for one longer picture. You don't overthink it, you just do it. So much prettier, more to admire. I always do mine only on one half of the page (front or back, right or left) but not both. I'm going to try that. More and more, i wanna be like you 😅
Did you just say buy a new sketchbook so we can do this exercise and break it in? Well okay NEW SKETCHNOOK IT IS!! Lol I love the size of this one and I love the exercise ♡
Sketchbook with thicker pages, they won't warp as they dry. If you have a local art supply, you'll have better luck finding watercolor friendly sketchbooks there than at Michaels or Hobby Lobby
my art teacher told me that if you page is too wiggly, you have to wet the other side as well, your page will still be a bit wiggly, but is will be less than it was before. so if you don't have the best watercolour paper, you can try this
@@RebelUnicornCrafts thanks a lot! Saved the whole playlist. Yesterday i created a mini sketchbook + a junk journal from shopping bag to play with. Now I have ideas to fill it with🫡🙆♀️😃
This is such an amazing video. Could you please tell me where you got the tiny sketch book and the brand of it. Also where is that special slanted paintbrush? What brand is it and what is the term for that kind of paintbrush.
Hi there - I'm dabbling in watercolor lately. I enjoy watching your videos and you are so down to earth (that was satire regarding this post😉🤣). Could you please recommend some decent sketchbooks for watercolor, like the one you are using in this video? There are so many to choose from and i literally get confused by all that's out there.
So love this idea. But if you want to know what I do for the inside Of my sketchbook is I do have characters and like a world so what I do is I draw a map of said world and it helps with building the world a little bit better and it helps because when I'm drawing like architecture and stuff. Obviously, this isn't gonna work for everyone. But it works very particularly for me. Is I just putting the world map onto the inside and outside of my covers? It's kind of like how authors do it. And it's generally because I spend all my time in my sketch books. Not necessarily just drawing things but drawing and planning out the characters. In my storybook, you don't have to do that. That's just what I do. If you really need more ideas. 😅
theres this one brand of sketchbook that i got for my last one, it was 12AUD (so like 6-8 usd or smth) and it was my absolute favourite for almost all mediums but markers, i think next time ill get anothwr one bc its so good
you have a very calming mr rogers/bob ross energy and i love it. also, as someone who is in absolute love with the way fields look from way up in the sky i will for sure be doing this exercise in my sketchbook 😊
After watching you for a year now, I am finally going to learn watercolors!! Better late than never. 😊
i hope u didn’t give up! it can be frustrating at first
It’s never too late!!
You've got this!!!
@@quinroseeI just started today. My first “painting” was a bell pepper lol

@@bungeepete7393I share my secret tip with you. Buy an extra sketch book. Write "ruined sketchbook" on it. Then start to paint or draw. ❤

me too! it causes a lot of frustrating artist block, so vids like these help a lot
I freeze up too! Never know what to start with! The stress can take away the joy of actually painting.
Thank You... I've NEVER felt confident with art. You've helped me change my mind about it, and just TRY.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
I feel this would also make a great background for a journal and or scrap book

I love this so much. Definitely gonna do this, haha! 😂
I just imagined you being like “Oh how nice!” And then just toss it across the room 💀

I would do little dots of green between the squares, that way it looks like the dark trees that separate the borders of different property lines.
This is something where I’d take a fine liner and add little details to make it look textured and even more like little feilds.
Yes that would be beautiful!
I’d like to see that when it’s done!!

The urge to write over that with a black gel pen is ...
Beautiful!
I feel you. I had the very same thought. Oh! What a rush! lol.❤
Omg then if u got a black thin pen and added little houses, cows, sheep, country lanes with cobble walls! Ahhh so many possibilities!! Thanks!
Did you do it?
@joanasaad915 I started it but then I moved and all my stuff is in boxes needing to be unpacked xp I only got the watercolour part done
wow im definitely gonna try this

To mix it up, make some trapazoids with some slanted borders just like some farmland when its interrupted by a road
I love the cornfield color! Beautiful!💚
What brands do you like for your sketch book?
I would love to do this in pink
Now you can doodle in all of those little squares.
That's fun.
I’m new to your videos, I love them! I love the look of watercolour but am no artist, but I will give it a try!
Pretty! Love all the earthy colors. Great, approachable exercise. 💚💛👍
Love your style and lessons!!❤
LOVE your talent and easy going way of teaching!!
Thank you so much!
These have been my fave sketchbooks for a bit, the square makes for an interesting piece everytime
do u know what brand it is?
I think they're the little 3x3 or 4x4 from Michael's... Artist Loft brand
Very pretty!
Reminds me of some of Paul Klee’s paintings!
Proof that all greens match. ♡
That makes my eyes happy

Where do you get those little sketchbooks they are fab
Hello Rebel , I realy enjoyed watching your sketchbook tutorial. It looks ever so nice lovely Idea. Thank you greetings from Christiane 😊❤
Love this idea, am going to try it in my new sketchbook. Thank you for the inspiration.
Question for you- how do you stop the pages in a sketchbook from getting super wiggly from the water?
Sketchbook with thicker pages, they won't warp as they dry. If you have a local art supply, you'll have better luck finding watercolor friendly sketchbooks there than at Michaels or Hobby Lobby
taping the page down with tape (masking/washi/artists) helps but most importantly using watercolor paper. Regular sketchbook paper can't handle water.
my art teacher told me that if you page is too wiggly, you have to wet the other side as well, your page will still be a bit wiggly, but is will be less than it was before. so if you don't have the best watercolour paper, you can try this
Extremely great idea

The look of it reminds me of a paver walking path. It’s a closed up picture of it. One that someone could have possibly made.
What sketchbook are you using? It looks small. I like the size of it.
i would like to know this too

you could always add a blob of blue or bluish brown for water! Add in a river and go around it!
Cool! Link to the sketchbook you’re using?
Yes, a link please ❤
It reminds me of the abstract doors in the intro to monsters inc

I love this. Can you please tell me what do you do with your completed sketch books?
i always start at the back of the sketchbook and work yowards the front. idk why, it just helps make messing up not scary
which brand/type of sketchbook are you using in this video?
I always just break in new books by using them as a coaster for awhile,, or stickers
And then if you want to go further you can use a fine black liner over top for some simple detail
Had to pause two seconds in because the idea of spritzing watercolors was GROUNDBREAKING to me. Literally said "oh my god!" out loud
