- A car plows into a police officer's patrol car along an empty highway in Colorado. The officer had pulled over to help a driver whose car broke down. That's when the officer saw another car headed right toward them. He tries to get the driver to slow down but the car crashes right into the patrol car. Inside Edition Digital has more.
Out of all places in the world you manage to hit a cop car on a empty road 🤦♂️ someone needs their license removed
Useless video. They just repeated the same footage the entire minute.
It's very likely the other driver was on the phone, which is why they didn't see the emergency lights of the patrol vehicle.
Why on earth would anyone use a sedan to tow an SUV and expect it not to break down? Besides the lack of common sense, using a lighter vehicle to tow a heavier one endangers other drivers!
Money can buy a lot of things, but it can't buy brains!
@@Name-jw4sjok so would you just rather have a black screen while a narrator explains what happened ?
@@Name-jw4sj Um, there's audio though...
@@Name-jw4sj Yeah, shame on them for not having cameras set up prior to the crash. The editor probably only had that footage to work with and a VO. They do hundreds of stories per month.
this really shows why cops point their tires to the left or right, literally saved those 3 cars from getting totaled and injuring anyone in them
I’m sure when you naturally pull into the edge , you tend to turn the wheel .
His wheels aren't turned in this case though. The only tire turned is the rear driver side that got hit. At the 1:00 mark, it shows the front tires, I doubt the cop got in it, turned the key and then turned the wheels before taking the photos.
@@Juann-ci5vh No, it's a police thing
@@MannyDerWhen the vehicle was hit and absolutely destroyed, the police vehicle was probably having the wheel turned to the left. Once impact has happened, the wheel tends to move direction. I’ve been in so many car crashes. I’ve seen what it feels like and looks like.
@MannyDer do you drive a vehicle? Because if you do you would know that basically the wheel can be turned but if you don't keep your hands on the wheel to keep it turn the wheels will eventually straighten out and in this case that's exactly what happened.
Not everyone deserves to drive a car.
Or own one
That's why it's a privilege instead of a right.
But every car deserves a driver

I drive a semi truck for work and am usually on the road 10 hours per day. I'd say over half the drivers in some cities should have their licenses revoked for what they do on the roads
My gf’s dad was killed about 5 years ago because a lady was shopping on her phone while driving and ran right into the back of her dads tractor ejecting him and he died on impact. Please people, put down your phones. 🙏

How can you literally have 10 minutes to react and still don't see it
Driver was probably looking at his/her phone, thinking it's an empty road anyway so it's safe to not pay attention. Could also be some dumbass driving a Tesla using it's automatic driving feature that is notorious for ramming into parked emergency vehicles (I believe Inside Edition has a video about this too).
@@Vendemiairthey’re not notorious for ramming into parked cars. You’re either ignorant or just lying.

how distracted or clueless you have to be you see stopped cars and still keep going people like that need to get their license taken away for good
My guess is highway hypnosis. I'd be willing to bet they weren't texting and their eyes were on the road. But a long stretch of empty highway can very easily make someone space out.
@@tennessee.tiger1988 highway hypnosis, texting, DUI, medical emergency. There could be many reasons.

The LED lights attract drivers. I don't know why, but lots of stories about cops getting hit. Slow down, people!!
@@gimpygardner3377yeah that usually happens at night though because people have nothing else to reference so they go towards lights
I've seen someone come speeding down a hill, then come screeching to a halt at a police checkpoint. You could see the line of cop cars from 5 miles away as you come down the curving hill. It's impossible to miss all those blue and red lights flashing on the night, yet this guy did. I was stopped, waiting for my turn to get checked when I saw the jeep coming down the hill really fast. He studded to a stop just before he ran into two cops talking. Obviously, the guy most likely got a ticket and a lecture.
A former co-worker, most wonderful person ever, moved to Colorado and became a Highway cop of some sort. Pulled over to help someone who was stuck in the snow, was hit and killed by a driver. I can still cry thinking about him. He was the very best person.
What's there to investigate? The guy was clearly not paying attention. Put your friggin' phones down, people!
No doubt that a check of his phone logs will confirm that... IF they even have cell service way out there. Wife and I take driving
trips around the western US a couple of times each year. It's surprising at just how many places do not have cell phone coverage.
Or they were Doing Drugs
@@edb3877 Stay safe out there!
The investigation is so that they have information to complete the report. Was the person distracted? Practically asleep? Having a medical issue? Something else? They want to know.
@@Huh-oc3gx Or they were drunk.
Take their driver’s licenses away permanently, zero excuses.
Unfortunately some people will still drive without a license.
@@TheFlyingmartiniMostly too stubborn to even care until they get a fine and then jail time.
Depends on the cause. If careless yes. If a medical emergency or something no.
@@kurtwetzel154 -- Depends on the medical emergency. If it is likely to reoccur, that is still grounds to promote them to passenger or pedestrian.
If they can't see a parked emergency service car, I doubt they can see pedestrians too, that person is a danger to society

There was a girl in my class in HS who used that line, except it was a tree that just appeared out of nowhere.

Driving to work one morning I saw a woman driving on the highway while READING A BOOK! Seriously. One hand on the steering wheel one hand holding the book up to her face.
I also saw a dude on the Taconic Parkway in NY reading a hard cover book propped up on his steering wheel. Morning rush hour. Brilliant.
I've seen the book in teh lap thing.
Drivers need to take driving much more seriously. And if they don't, they need to lose their license.
The guy in this video should not be able to drive again for at least five years.
i saw the same thing coming home from LA - CA. i had to slow down and take another look.
On my way to work one day, I saw a driver in a BMW pass me on I-5N near Woodland, WA. He had a newspaper spread out on the steering wheel, a cup of coffee in one hand and a cell phone in the other. Freaked me out! Yes, he seemed to be driving with his knees. Thankfully, he didn't kill anyone as far as I knew but man, talk about breaking every rule of safe driving.
I have seen women doing their makeup many times while driving
You can hear that they didn't even try to brake. They must have been on their phone

@@Huh-oc3gx Possibly, but considering the Track record of recent years........................
IKR, I saw like five people on their phones when I was driving today like damn
They can but the won't.
Is that a sedan towing a SUV towing a sedan? No wonder he is broke down in the road.
Mexican insurance auction caravan. Completely sketchy, all over the place & the cops don't seem to ever pull them over. No money in that...
Some of the most outrageous driving in my life I have personally seen on the roads where I live the last few years
The police report says it was a elderly Asian woman using autopilot and studying for a court ordered remedial driving exam on her tablet.
LOL would be hilarious if true.
I'm convinced the back of some people's license say corn flakes
Some guy texting for miles
more proof why cycling is even more dangerous than ever
No more will I road bike. 🚴 I want to live and not provide more opportunities towards death for myself.
Who cares? Don’t ride a bicycle on the road, where motor vehicles belong, not your toy.
you mean in the US right ?
Exactly why they need to be on the sidewalk. People want to play games and think cyclists mixing with cars is a bright idea when it's just ignorant
@@samuelstevens1129 works in Europe, where people can actually drive cars.
Had that happen to me back in 1979. We initiated a stop for expired tags and a drunk lady slammed into the rear of our unit. Traffic stops can be dangerous.
Drivers across the USA get dumber and dumber every day. Absolutely heartbreaking 💔
Never ever underestimate a human driving an automobile.
Most people drive with their faces glued to their phones these days...
Or, they drive While Drinking Alcohol
So many drivers that shouldn’t have a drivers license
You might as well get outta the car & put your hands behind your back
Yup😂😂😂
That won't work, he will run away with his hands behind his Back
As hard as that hit looked, especially with the damage done to that Tahoe, I would be surprised if they were even able to get out of their vehicle!
everyone talking bout how he managed to hit a car on an empty road but nobody noticed that the patrol car missed the white car by inches
some people have no business behind a wheel , the only car for miles and you managed to hit it?
Makes me wonder if the officer hadn't stopped... The vehicle may have plowed right into the people that were broke down... could have been a lot worse
I like how the wheels turned out saved the other cars and no oncoming cars and bros dodged it well
I guess they didn't have their depth perception turned on.
How do you know it was a "He" ?
Some people should not be allowed to drive!!!
The driver was 100% on his phone😂
Cop went from hey slow down to get outta of the way Jimmy !
" imma stop paying attention cause the road is completely empty right"
Good grief. How do you not see that a mile away.

It's a miracle that the other cars weren't hit
I’m happy it wasn’t a K9 car with a doggo in it.
Lights flashing and people standing out in the roadway, tells you that the driver was definitely not looking at the road when this crash took place.
Misleading information again... "a car plows into a police officer's patrol car" ... no... the car didn't just do that out of the blue. Someone DROVE the car into the officers car...
thats not misleading at all, thats normal english. when was the last time youve read "person driving a car gets into an accident" instead of just "car gets into an accident"? If you thought the title meant a random driver-less car, then thats on you.
That deserves some jail time and a hefty fine to pay for that totaled patrol car.
An empty road for miles and the person still managed to hit a damn car! Only thing I can think is the person thought the cars were in motion but I highly doubt that? The person didn't even try to turn into the other lane!
“Lets practice on this long empty highway, there’s almost nothing to hit”
$20 says that it was a woman driving ..
If that person didn't slow down it looks like they were trying to intentionally run into the cops. What kind of person does that a criminal
Revoke license
This is possibly a case of target fixation. Where the harder you tell your brain to not hit something, the more you focus on it, and subconsciously drive into it.
Figure out the spot to drive to/through where you wont hit anything, and then focus on the middle of that spot. Dont focus on the thing youre trying to avoid.
I dont drive anymore and im 48. Its not that i can't. I'm actually a hell of a driver. Its because of everyone else.
Stop blaming other people
That's a pretty big SUV for it to end up like that also the amount of force that it took to move the SUV that far that's crazy
The better question... Why is a small sedan towing a dolly with a larger vehicle on it?
But I'm going to go off on a limb and say the driver was not charged. This is why this keeps happening. There needs to be stricter penalties in place for these people.
Thank goodness no one was hit. ❤❤
That was a hell of a text message
At least he moved the patrol car away from the cops 🤷🏽♂️ 😂
Crazy how the police car moved perfectly to avoid any further crash!
They where so inept in avoiding the squad, but some how manage to miss the other 3 cars... I don't know which I'm more amazed by
Goes to show not everyone should be allowed to have a license.
Thank god there was no K-9 officer OR suspect in the back of the police vehicle.
Good thing there was no suspect in the police cruiser at the time of the crash.
Other than half the road being blocked by several vehicles, it was basically completely empty.
turned a whole Tahoe into a sardine can just insane
I am curious if they had their lights on. But still, how clueless do you have to be not to see a car stopped in front of you? You have to see if it is coming closer and closer.
Love how they ran in unison
Drunk or most likely distracted. Absolutely NO EXCUSE.
Never, ever, ever, stop in the road.
Show us who the SOB is!
Most people can not pay attention as it is but then they get behind the wheel, use their phone, put on makeup, trim their toe nails all while driving, it's a crash waiting to happen.
Makes me wonder if his lights were on
Because this is on video with a witness there should be no court case, they should go to jail for a year unless it's a medical emergency.
I'm starting to think that the tests to get a driver's license may be too easy.
That driver must have a thing against cops
That cop very likely saved the lives of the people who were broken down 👍
Who gave driver license to a blind person?
At least those Colorado cops didn't have anybody locked up in the back seat this time.
‘But I didn’t see you occifur”
Why didn’t they show pictures of the vehicle that hit the cop car and who the driver was?
Yeah, that's where I'm puzzled. Whatever it was, and as the Inside Edition reporter says at the end: the crash is now being investigated by Colorado's state patrol.
Patrol car did a fantastic job of avoiding the other vehicles. lol.
And this is exactly why cops always point their wheels to the left when they do traffic stops.
Police car taking "to protect and serve" to the next level
How was it an empty highway if there were two cars on it?
"Had anything to drink today sir?"
Insurance companies gonna have a hell of a time with this
How could you possibly hit a car on an empty road someone needs to learn how to actually drive
They probably saved that person's life by parking the police car behind them
Geez, how fast was the driver going???
And THAT is why officers turn their front tires to the left when they park behind you on the side of the road. If the patrol car is hit like this one, it causes the vehicle to move out into traffic and away from you on the side of the road.
I hope there wasn't a K-9 in there!
He was busy texting...come on now😂😂😂
Omgee definitely not paying attention 🤦♀️. Good thing the police was outside the vehicle.
Sure glad the officer and the other guy didn’t get hurt.
We share the road with drivers like this.
Towing an SUV with a regular should be a ticket also ...... No excuses here for what happened .....
Glad the officer was ok
I live in Colorado and after watching this video I can confirm that I have no idea what I'm talking about.
