I always feel exhausted terrified of things. My life was practically ruined in some way. Today I woke up at 5am and I searched lots of things related my project. I felt so free and potential that are not found yet. I got out and walk on snow that not cleaned by city cleaner yet. 6 hours later, still 11am. This is crazy. Love it.
haha same, I'm a software engineer student. as long as you are happy and are making the most of your time don't worry about what time you wake up or go to bed. just try to get at least 7 hours of sleep and just remember time is the most valuable asset we have. once you lose time you dont get it back!
No it is not true that it does not matter when you go to sleep. We are human beings , so we are supposed to go to bed early and sleep when it is night , and wake up just around sunrise. 7,5 hrs of sleep from 22:00-06:00 are better for the brain and body from 7,5 hours of sleep between 24:00-08:00 , and that 24:00-8:00 is still somewhat better than 02:00-10:00, and of course working night-shifts is the worst thing you can do (I realize that many people are forced to work in such jobs , but they should better try to stay in such jobs for as little time as possible).

Of course, there were periods when I didn't practice waking up early or running, mostly because of school. However, I always come back to it. if i lived in an area like that, i don't think id ever look at my phone. holy shit thats beautiful and the noises are so relaxing yet so untamed and that makes it even more beautiful.
Word. People pay fortunes to go to places like that for a week or two. Look out my window and you'll see a horrid concrete jungle with graffiti and drunks pissing on the street.
Fact...This guy got a damn jungle out his window....I have train tracks and mini terminals......damn privileged kid...But good for him to picking up a good habit.
How else are people supposed to get the message across? Everyone is constantly in their devices anyway so it seems like the most effective way to do it.
I really resonate with this. This video actually reminded me to order an alarm clock so I don't wake up to my phone in the morning. I 100% agree it's so much better to wake up without scrolling through social media. A wise man once said, "Changing your triggers is the key to changing your habits."
Muhilan Selvaa No, it was Joshua Fields Millburn (he's writer who also co hosts a podcast called The Minimalists). That looks really interesting tho. Have you read it?
Remon That definitely helps! But my phone is still the first thing I pick up in the morning (to shut off the alarm). And picking that up first thing seems to be my "trigger" for old habits.
that makes sense yes. I actually feel that just shutting down the phone is not enough. The "real" challenge starts with shutting down/limiting the internet time and instead work/study ! its hard haha.
RDtv Igy 😂, Like it comes to 4pm when I'm back from college and I look through TH-cam and somehow don't finish watching things till gone 2am (On a good day xD). All I can say is TH-cam recommended messes me up as I usually start with gaming vids and then weird ones right at the end, like a chinese guy who bought a $1 knife and sharpens it with a $600 sharpening block 😂... Helllpppp meeeee 😂😂😭😭😭😭
Before I started trying to reduce my watch time, I'd get home from school at 3 PM not even change out of my uniform and watch TH-cam until dinner time (around 7PM). I'd then go back to watching videos until 10PM, then only would I start doing my homework (and study, hopefully) until midnight. I'd then continue to watch until 3AM then go to sleep. I'd then have to wake up at 5:30AM which I consistently fail to do. My TH-cam addiction has gotten so bad to the point where I literally study on the morning before the test. That's 10+ hours a day of screen time. I've never met anyone with that much TH-cam watch time and sleep deprivation.
Oh my gosh thank you Jordan for sharing this with all of us. I relate 100% to what you are describing, and honestly last night I hit rock bottom because ever since 5 years ago, I have felt like there was no way out of my electronics addiction. I honestly felt so hopeless, and for the first time ever, I realized that I could not continue this lifestyle for even one more day. I was very unsure of what I could do to change my lifestyle, but I knew I had do to something, I just didn't know what. So as I fell asleep feeling really desperate, all I could do was pray to God and ask Him for help. But then today I was watching some messyges videos (which were all awesome btw) and then I happened to come across your channel. Then I saw this video and I heard God say "This is what you need to do. This is your answer. This is how you will be able to change your life for the better." Can I get an AMEN, because God heard my prayer and answered me through this video!!!! Thank you for making this video Jordan, I am so excited to (as of today) start improving my lifestyle! God bless you, Sarah and the rest of your family :)
For those who say that they don't know what to do if they do not like reading books here are some ideas: Practise a hobby-skill Workout Take a shower And the most important, make your favourite drink go in your balcony and relax by watcing the sun rise (you will also start to understand how beautiful the world is) ...sorry for my bad english...
Omar619kamis Kamis yeh i know man, but there is a solution also.. you can just sit and relax mind ( meditate). Just imagine the nature, trees, birds. Not even a single thought should come in your mind except focusing on your breath, after 15-20 mins of doing this you will feel damn good man.. on doing it regulary you will have a positive mind which will lead to your any achievment. I hope it will help you. Peace!!!🤗
ADDY entertainments yh someone adviced me to meditate, and told me how does it effects your mind and how much it helped him, i tried it, but i couldn't i just can't really do it, you know focus and relaxing i find it challenging... Sucks for me
One habit that has been impacting my life since I started college was waking up earlier. It was difficult to start at 7AM, but now i work back to 5AM and 6AM during the week. This gives me at least 2 hours before my first class, so I am awake, aware of my surroundings, and have already had 1.) morning devotional, 2.) read from two different books (one intellectual and the other more towards self-improvement) 3.) Written prayer/plan for the day as well as progress (optional) and 4.) Had my tea and/or coffee Waking up early can be intimidating at times as one might be confronted with "why am I doing this" when you might not have a lot of work due, but he struck it home in the video that what we tend to do at night (my brain tends to stop functioning), is way less useful than what we can do fresh in the morning. Loved the video and I am going to start this challenge of a. charging the phone in another room, b. phone off at 9PM, bedtime at 10PM, and phone off until 8AM. Can't wait to see the results!
I have started writing in the morning and I'm noticing that the brain really works at its best then. You don't realise this so much when you are younger, but as you get older, your schedule is something that can make or break things
As a Muslim, we've 5 prayers per day, each prayer takes around 5 minutes, the first prayer is the earliest one, for example for now it is at 5:00 am, the time of prayer is changeable over the year, because of the daylight difference, day is longer in summer than in winter. So technically a conservative Muslim wakes up early all the days of his life. Peace and love to all, it's just something from our culture that I wanted to share
@@beneficialreminders2236 I'm trying to sleep at 10 pm everyday to be able to wakeup at 5 AM easily , it's hard sometimes but even if I didn't sleep early I'm trying to wakeup to pray in time and sleep again for more 2 hours then go to work . How do you manage it as Muslim too?!
hahaahhh same here bro. and i feel guilty, but we have just one life, so whatever makes us happy. i was away from the internet for 3 months and my physical health improved, but i was going crazy. literally crazy, like psychosis or something. life without intertnet is like a fish without water. sorry for the bad spelling but i now eat and i have just two clean fingers
in 2017 when i left the military i wasnt in very good shape mentally or physically. the grind life of the navy took alot out of me. and all i did was continue bad habits. drinking, smoking cigarettes. i hit rock bottom and had a nervous breakdown new years eve of this year. ever since then i decided i'm not going to lose control of myself like that. Now i wake up early, exercise and am taking a lot better care of myself. it's amazing what a change in behavior patterns can do for mental health.
@Matt Riachi 4 hours of work a day? I hope you're getting paid $20+/hr, you would barely get 30 hours a week if you worked 4 hours a day every day lol.
@hoopseR he didnt sit in front of a pc... He read books and stuff. I guess he just replaced old bad habits with new good ones and the waking up in the morning thing was just a good cue to do so
I wonder if the view count goes up every time I rewatch this video... I've watched it at least half a dozen times. Really motivating to get up early. Thanks, Jordan!
At the beginning of this video, you were literally describing everything I do. I’m such a procrastinator and I always spend way too much time on my IPad instead of getting stuff that I need done. And at the end of the day I am always upset at myself for going to bed too late, and for not getting anything productive done. This video is something I really needed right now. I really appreciate this so much!! I’m so motivated right and I can’t wait to start making some changes. Thanks Jordan!! 🙂😃I really love your videos sooo much!! ❤️
The difference is, when you watch a movie you know it lasts for 2 hours. His problem was that he binge watched youtube videos without the knowledge of how much time he had spent on his phone watching youtube
It's like those fucking no lifers who brag about the thousands of hours they put into a video game Like... We get it, you're self destructive and beyond repair
This video is changing my life and my boyfriend's. We were so inspired to start working on our own life patterns after watching this and we have fallen in love with waking up at 5am and not getting on our phones for 3 hours! Just today we ran 2 miles, read for a while, and I did a 6am skype interview with a company in Beijing. Thank you so much, we are brand new people!!!
Danny Juarez Haha yeah it's not easy at first going to bed early, but I promise you that if you even try it for 3 days then your body will adjust.😂 You can do it!!!👍🏻
The man on the video doesn't say that. Kevin Langue, after having watched the video asked Alexa to set up the alarm clock to 5 AM.... EVERY GODDAMN DAY!
I needed to watch this !! I must try I want to see the sunrise ! I feel so guilty waking up at 9:30 am and sleeping late . I will try this but I have to start of slowly so this week 7 am and then 6 am .
This dude isn’t lying. If you wake up at 5am and are incredibly tired, just go through the 5-10 minutes of pain to go make yourself a coffee, because after that 5-10 minutes, the rest of your day will be 10x better
Cole Smith I've always felt like this. I wake up early all the time and I just push myself to get out of the painful 5 minutes of waking up, then I'm good to go.
Back in my freshmen & sophomore year of highschool I wouldn't do my homework at night and I saved it for the morning and it got to the point where I would pass out at 8pm and get up at 4am everyday to do my homework before heading to the school bus. Those years I felt so energetic and happier at school. I started doing my homework right when I got home so that stopped. I should have never stopped tbh I felt like I almost had more time in my day even though I was getting more sleep.
I would only add that after having a coffee and or some breakfast, Go back and lie down and take a 15 to 30 min snooze after. then when you get up and head out you are refreshed. Sometimes it's hard not to fall back asleep doing this but after you have moved around and put food and liquid into you then it's not so bad. Of course doing this every morning isn't easy because of the extra time needed for the lie down.
I though I was early when I was 13 I'd be up at 6am to watch the sun rise. Lost the habit over the winter though; it got too cold to bother waking up that early.
Thank you to the all mighty TH-cam algorithm for sending this video to me. Defintely can relate to this myself @3:04 Here we go, motivated to get this fixed.
That's actually my routine, waking up at 5 am, sleeping early, doing exercise, painting, writing, reading books, playing the violin. I don't have many friends either, so I'm asocial but it's awesome being alone and do the things you love the most.
THANK YOU MAN!!! this video is soo important for me, I used to wake up at 5 and run every morning for almost a year, but then I got an injury on my foot and I drop it and ever since I've been feeling terrible but since I am trying to go back and run now this video helped me soo much
Even if you don't have a schedule that allows you to wake up at 5 (graveyard workers/swing), the message of putting your phone away is still very important. It just hit me through this video how often I sit in a parking lot watching Facebook videos, or Reddit, or TH-cam videos for the amount for the time it would have taken me to get my grocery list done for example. I have been almost late to work because I am just sitting at home on my phone. I am really gonna take this to heart. I waste so much time doing worthless bullshit on my phone/computer when I could be getting so much more done. Thank you for this video. Don't know why it was suggested to me, but I am happy it was! Good day! And I am now a new subscriber! :)
Damn last night I stayed up til 6am and woke up at 1pm. I got up and finished a Netflix series then proceeded to watch a few more movies. I then bounced around from Twitter, Instagram and TH-cam. I honestly hate being addicted to my phone so I’m definitely going to try and do this! Wish me luck cause I for sure need to get my life together!
Just watched this video for the first time. And Wow! It was such an answer to prayer for me! Lately with the covid quarintine and everything I have been feeling really addicted to my phone and go to bed realllyyy late. Like I'm wasting this cool opportunity that quarintine has given, of being at home and having free time. It's like the day just disappears. For a long while my goal has been to get up at 4:30 or 5, but it just never happens. I've tried to break it the past few weeks, but haven't known how. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!!! It was EXACTLY the help I needed!! It was so helpful for me to hear your "plan of attack" for breaking phone addiction habits! I wrote down how you're doing it because I think it's super effective! Starting it tonight! Thank you for the tips and motivation, Jordan!
I wake up at 4:00 I'll do some push ups and look at the sky sketching. After that I jog, while jogging I thinking of what to sketch next leaving my mind at just that and never use my phone and just live my life. Technology changed us.
I wake up at 6:30 am but I'm addicted to my phone. I'll try to put it away and use it less, because even if I wake up early I don't have time do anything, for example study
Oue and to be able to go to bed early you must be physical tired from doing stuff all day, many people do not do physical stuff all day to be tired (kids/teens nowadays). That is also a problem.
Yeah that’s my problem. I can’t go to bed at 8. I’ve got stuff to do in the evening, make dinner, spend time with my partner, make our lunches for next day... I don’t know. I’m just worried I’d be too tired too early
And it is a problem. As I'm a "night owl" that gets more productive at night, at least for creative stuff. But I've found that the early mornings can also be productive, but effort must be put in to make it so.
I’m watching this at 12 at night and I’m probably going to watch like 10 more TH-cam videos but this video makes me want to try this but I don’t think it’s gonna work...
this video is really valuable bc he's mainly talking how to wake up at 5 am and what makes it easier, and how to change a very bad habit of looking at your phone for hours wasting your time instead of just saying basic stuff like just do it, doesn't matter how much sleep u get and what you do before going to sleep, wake up at 5 am and see how it changes your life. from me, as i haven't finished watching this video yet (so i dunno if he's gonna say that too), i'd recommend you reading before u go to sleep instead of watching stuff on your phone or computer - it rlly makes me sleep much better and also i tend to wake up earlier when i read before going to sleep. doesn't have to work the same for you but it's worth to try.
Yea nice beautiful house and nature smfh. I live in a depressing house full of depressed people and memories in a depressing boring city full of old people.
Thanks for this video, Jordan. I stumbled upon the same video as you a few weeks ago. I started to wake up at 5:30 every morning for about a week and it felt as amazing and as dramatic of a change as you expressed. The week after, however, I was slammed at work with a week full of night shifts. It completely destroyed the habit I had setup. But next week will be the the final week of my job as I am quitting and moving on to a new opportunity. I won't have night shifts so I'll start again and hopefully it will become as much of a routine as getting up in the morning! Once again, great video.
Waking up at 5AM changed my life, too. I have a constant headache. I'm so tired I keep nodding off at work. I get home from work between 4-6PM and have an alarm on my phone for 8PM to remind me to drop what I'm doing and get ready for bed. I think there's something wrong with me....
This video is my discipline recharge. I always come back to this. I appreciate this video so much!

Exactly! He doesn’t realise that he’s in a privileged position here and not all of us live in an environment that forces us to get up early

What a stupid excuse. Even if you have it harder, doesn't mean it won't work for you. Stop crying about "privilege" and just try it.

Literally tho. "STOP USING TECHNOLOGY SO MUCH also subscribe for more"
How else are people supposed to get the message across? Everyone is constantly in their devices anyway so it seems like the most effective way to do it.
Lol
Amelie D EXACTLY!
I really resonate with this. This video actually reminded me to order an alarm clock so I don't wake up to my phone in the morning. I 100% agree it's so much better to wake up without scrolling through social media. A wise man once said, "Changing your triggers is the key to changing your habits."
Was it from Triggers by Marshall Goldsmith? a.co/2AA0QNk
Muhilan Selvaa No, it was Joshua Fields Millburn (he's writer who also co hosts a podcast called The Minimalists). That looks really interesting tho. Have you read it?
just put your phone on airplane mode ?
Remon That definitely helps! But my phone is still the first thing I pick up in the morning (to shut off the alarm). And picking that up first thing seems to be my "trigger" for old habits.
that makes sense yes. I actually feel that just shutting down the phone is not enough. The "real" challenge starts with shutting down/limiting the internet time and instead work/study ! its hard haha.
Good job Frodo, early birds get to Mordor the quickest.

2hrs on TH-cam in a day?... That's weak 😂😂😂
cynormical yeah seriously I sit here and watch 3 hour podcasts like it's nothing then still continue to watch about 100 more videos lol
Helllpppp meeeee 😂😂😭😭😭😭
jordan peterson videos are pretty long lol

Practise a hobby-skill
Workout
Take a shower
And the most important, make your favourite drink go in your balcony and relax by watcing the sun rise (you will also start to understand how beautiful the world is)

Peace!!!🤗

One habit that has been impacting my life since I started college was waking up earlier. It was difficult to start at 7AM, but now i work back to 5AM and 6AM during the week. This gives me at least 2 hours before my first class, so I am awake, aware of my surroundings, and have already had
1.) morning devotional,
2.) read from two different books (one intellectual and the other more towards self-improvement)
3.) Written prayer/plan for the day as well as progress (optional) and
4.) Had my tea and/or coffee
Waking up early can be intimidating at times as one might be confronted with "why am I doing this" when you might not have a lot of work due, but he struck it home in the video that what we tend to do at night (my brain tends to stop functioning), is way less useful than what we can do fresh in the morning.
Loved the video and I am going to start this challenge of a. charging the phone in another room, b. phone off at 9PM, bedtime at 10PM, and phone off until 8AM.
Can't wait to see the results!
This is awesome!!!!!
Well, how are your results?
I have started writing in the morning and I'm noticing that the brain really works at its best then. You don't realise this so much when you are younger, but as you get older, your schedule is something that can make or break things
How are you doing so far?

As a Muslim, we've 5 prayers per day, each prayer takes around 5 minutes, the first prayer is the earliest one, for example for now it is at 5:00 am, the time of prayer is changeable over the year, because of the daylight difference, day is longer in summer than in winter. So technically a conservative Muslim wakes up early all the days of his life.
Peace and love to all, it's just something from our culture that I wanted to share

This dude isn’t lying. If you wake up at 5am and are incredibly tired, just go through the 5-10 minutes of pain to go make yourself a coffee, because after that 5-10 minutes, the rest of your day will be 10x better
So getting addicted to coffee is the secret for success?
lmaoooo
I uesed to get up at 5am when I was 13 and open my window and just read a book. I loved it! I will try to do that again :)
Aria Olson that sounds absolutely beautiful 😍. It's giving me this cool, positive, nostalgic vibes
I though I was early when I was 13 I'd be up at 6am to watch the sun rise. Lost the habit over the winter though; it got too cold to bother waking up that early.
Exercise. You need it
Sun rise at 6am? During winter I would need to wait at least to 9am to see the sunrise...
Bloody Reddit...
Damn last night I stayed up til 6am and woke up at 1pm. I got up and finished a Netflix series then proceeded to watch a few more movies. I then bounced around from Twitter, Instagram and TH-cam.

I wake up at 6:30 am but I'm addicted to my phone. I'll try to put it away and use it less, because even if I wake up early I don't have time do anything, for example study
I'm having the EXACT same problem. Need to do this to become more productive and gain leverage on the day. Thanks for sharing this!
To wake up early, you have to go to bed early
The problem is there
Oue and to be able to go to bed early you must be physical tired from doing stuff all day, many people do not do physical stuff all day to be tired (kids/teens nowadays). That is also a problem.
but u cant do much at 10-11pm anyway. In the morning you can do anything
In islam we wake up at 4 AM for prayer al-fajr i think that a good lifestyle ❤😊

wait, im looking at this video on my phone at 1 AM

Me too wtf
this video is really valuable bc he's mainly talking how to wake up at 5 am and what makes it easier, and how to change a very bad habit of looking at your phone for hours wasting your time instead of just saying basic stuff like just do it, doesn't matter how much sleep u get and what you do before going to sleep, wake up at 5 am and see how it changes your life.
from me, as i haven't finished watching this video yet (so i dunno if he's gonna say that too), i'd recommend you reading before u go to sleep instead of watching stuff on your phone or computer - it rlly makes me sleep much better and also i tend to wake up earlier when i read before going to sleep. doesn't have to work the same for you but it's worth to try.

GoldenSeahawk30 that's good. Mee too its 10 put because I ate some food I will at 11
Omg same it 10pm and i am gonna sleep bye
Me too!!
Dang 1:20 for me. I regret that I didn't watch this sooner.
Making Skidmarks theres nothing wrong with you this only works for people who are naturally designed to wake up at that time

Maybe you’re just waking up in the middle of your REM state. ;)
b12 defiency
sir I feel with you
But, of course I don't have enough B12. Negan keeps taking half of it.
Putting my phone away in the evening now is getting soooo much easier since I finally got myself a good book again
