Confirming: Yes, in California, when a vehicle is sold, the license plates normally go with it. The main exception is if they are personalized plates; those stay with the previous owner.

They never did the clipshow in star trek again as far as i know

Rewatching this video while working on the fanhome KITT model makes me wonder if someone would do a matching Truck/Trailor model you could open one side of the trailer to see the inside and display your KITT in, or maybe you could go into the mod business with or knowledge of what the inside of the trailor maybe design a inside backdrop and see if you can’t get one of the moders to make them
Usually, commercial vehicles keep their plates even when sold in state. And since the truck is older than a 2010, you can't drive it into California any more as the state has out lawed any commercial vehicle pre 2010 period. So if you were thinking of taking them to a show in Cali, you will have to have the truck on a flatbed and a new truck pulling the trailer.
I think they may make an exception for a Hollywood TV star, there not not going to want a army night rider fans chasseing them down are they? 🙂(it not like they will be shipping boxes are they) it's film prop?
I don't know Californian or even US laws in detail, but I believe there is a thing called a "show and display" registration that allows to register otherwise non-legal vehicles to be used as, well, a display piece? From what I know there are limits on things like yearly mileage that can be done with them, but I believe the KR Historians would have little issues with those as they do plan to fit the semi and trailer exactly in that kind of use case (as opposed to those who use it just to sort-of-legally drive gray imports like Nissan Skylines)

I was born in 1983 so didn;t even know what a TV was. I used to watch the re-runs in the 1990's.
