- The Soul of Zeppelin was founded by award-winning composer, guitarist and educator, Carl Baldassarre. During COVID, Baldassarre had a vision to handpick superb musicians and a compelling lead vocalist that could unlock the secret of Led Zeppelin’s sound. The secret of Led Zeppelin’s sound is hidden in the ability to improvise and to channel the band’s influences: which includes blues, funk, soul, swing, jazz, R&B, rock, country, and classical music. Like Led Zeppelin, The Soul of Zeppelin improvises their way through Led Zeppelin’s greatest songs while channeling the band and their influences.
As a highly acclaimed guitarist/connoisseur of Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin, Baldassarre has a vast knowledge of Led Zeppelin’s history which he shares during each show to enhance the experience.
The result is not an imitation or a caricature, but a living musical experience of the magic of Led Zeppelin in a presentation like nothing else in the world.

@@soufianen.6157 To my ears, it's an improvisation of different Page techniques throughout the '70s. Not copped from any single solo. That's why I find it so impressive.

Thank you! I’m trying to do it for the surviving members and the late Bonham memory. I bet the members would rather see us this than countless imitations. They never imitated themselves. That’s the secret to the soul of zeppelin. It should be inspired not imitated!

I have to admit that I liked the Theramin sound Carl got without a Theramin during the "freak out" part of "Whole Lotta Love". On a side note, one of the coolest uses of a Theramin is the live version of "Space Station #5" by Montrose, where Ronnie Montrose plays one that is attached to his guitar! As for "Whole Lotta Love", I had a hard time figuring out the bass line for it. The tabs and tutorials always seemed to be missing notes. Then I saw a video with John Paul Jones where he showed how it was played. He used to pick to get a more percussive sound and, sure enough, there were things missing on all those tabulations! I think he was playing the same Fender Jazz in the video that he used in those early recordings.

Thanks again! You’d be surprised how many people have a rigid expectation when it comes up Led Zeppelin. They want a copy. Which is so ironic because the lads never ever copied themselves. Every time they played one of their pieces it was a search for new angles! To you I still say “bravo”!

I’d love to jam with them some time! …We’re on a slightly different path with The Soul of Zeppelin project…it’s to be inspired by the music and not try to imitate it exactly. Zep never imitated itself. So we try to keep it loose, in the spirit we play with.

Awesome. I love how you got the theremin sounds for Whole Lotta Love? Was it delay + slide + something else? Can't quite work it out
Haha! I was using delays and creating some of the unheralded sounds of that interlude. My bass player Al Rolik was triggering the digital theremin electronically on stage so we can capture the whole of the experience!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Brilliant - my band and I have been thinking about doing a cover of WLL and we never quite managed to get the vibe of the interlude. You've definitely given us some inspiration with the effects used. What was Glen doing in the interlude? Saw him fiddling with something and I've been listening in to the kleyboard part but I can't seem to work out what he's doing there. Thanks for all your work!
That would be Jacob the keyboard player? He was adding some other minimal textures to round it out! The basic sound is to have the Theremin glissandos, slapping and sliding swipes on the guitar strings (either bare hands or slide) with long delay, very wet vocal punctuations, and overhead cymbals splashing. It must all be randomized, nothing scripted…And don’t overstay the moment…get to the guitar solo!

takes alot.. but i'm thoroughly impressed as fuk.. and i'm a purist.. i've played for 45 years.. cover bands.. and try my best to mimic the original recordings.. usually the studio cut.. and typically don't care for others versions who don't.. but even with your artistic license.. fuck me.. good job guys.. i'd love to say.. ok, but this or that.. or my was is better.. but i can't.. my way is just years of their way.. you made it your own and kept it good.. all you guys.. great job..
