Leroy Anderson wrote many popular 'light orchestra' novelty pieces just after WWII. They were amusing and uplifting, exactly the right type of music to cheer people up in the grey years just after the war. Many pieces included sound effects (such as 'The Typewriter'). He is probably best know for writing 'Sleigh Ride' which was released in 1949/1950. I'm sure we have all heard that a few hundred times! It never ceases to make me smile.
Then you need to listen to Leroy Anderson's Jazz Pizzicato and Jazz Legato. Pizzicato means to pluck the strings, and legato means to play smoothly in a very connected way. Leroy Anderson "Jazz Pizzicato" & "Jazz Legato" th-cam.com/video/1XIafHuEOQA/w-d-xo.html
So this is how it's supposed to sound... We played this for the first time today in our youth orchestra. Needless to say that we (okay it was just me) sucked...
Right---but technically, it's "plucking." I used to hear a lot of Leroy Anderson on our local AM station when I was a kid, it's light and cheerful. BTW, when I first heard "Sleigh Ride in _St. Petersburg,"_ I thought, "How much snow do they get in Florida? I didn't know they got _any!"_ (I'd never heard of St. Petersburg, _Russia.)_ Stay safe.
Ok so...the student orchestra at my school preformed this last night and I kept saying, “sure, I don’t know who wrote it, when it was written and I’ve only listened to it once, but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!”
The good news is once you've mastered this song, it stays in your muscle memory forever. I haven't played violin since high school (at least 7 years now) and I pulled this up to try to play along with now that I have my violin back, no sheet music, and it wasn't half bad 😂
Im in 8th grade and I played this at my concert. We were slow but I learned how to play it very smooth at 181 instead of 130. Overall very wonderful song and fun for the cellos and first violins to play!
Anderson wrote a lot of quirky short pieces that are definitely worth listening to. I'm sure you'll like the ones you haven't heard yet, and several of them are here on TH-cam.
i have a rehearsal tomorrow eith this song in it, with an orchestra I've never replayed with before... i just got the music today... :( holy crap i'm scared
I played this last year and I was hard to learn but once you got it it was easy,. I remember my favorite part being the part where I squeak on my cello, I remember not being covered in finger print stains lol
This song goes so hard. It was do fun to play and me and my friend had a blast. Not so much me because I had the melody part of the divizzy, but fun nonetheless
"Plink, Plank, Plunk". Or, as it was originally titled, "I'll Give Every Violinist Calluses If It's The Last Thing I Do". Jokes aside, this is marvelous!
Violin player - missed the opportunity to make the squeaking noise you get when you wipe your hand on the back of the instrument (it's featured in Leroy Anderson's 'Plink Plank Plunk')
高校の音楽会の見学?みたいなやつのアンコールで演奏して頂いたこの曲の名前が知りたくて、探し回ってやっと見つけた😭可愛い〜!って、みんな聞き入ってました✨
At our highschool we play the song continuously at the end until all the spectators leave the auditorium.
Cute!
Say goodbye to the tips of your fingers
音は控えめだけどすごい可愛い曲で好きだなぁ。
Genau so ist es!

Agreed, that is a beautiful song, and he was an amazing composer!
I love The Typewriter.
Brought me to tears. I used to play the piano version of this,,but can't do it anymore now. A favourite piece of mine.
THIS takes some playing! superb rendition. This tune always reminds me of someone happily rushing along on a bicycle on a spring morning!
You’ll probably never read this- but what a lovely description!
Agreed, this is a superb rendition! And the players are all children!
thank you @@damonrobus-clarke533
Im not normally into orchestral music, but this is just so smooth and cheerful.

Our conductor just send a link to this video in our WhatsApp chat group... Hey everyone... 😅
We played way slower, but it still sounds ok
We played it as students in high school, the squeek sounds were especially loved.
Oh my goodness that was great, loved it from beginning to end, its not often you hear a plunking like that AWESOME

It also really hurts to play 😂
Anderson had a way with turning words into musical ideas. You should listen to "The Waltzing Cat" and "The Typewriter Song."
Yes i was assigned this. Yes i cant stop listening to it. Does it remind me of 1950’s shopping ads? Maybe
Playing this for my orchestra concert in May. (-:

One of my favorites to play , over 40 yrs ago, for high school orchestra! Thank you!
Played this at a concert in February. It’s so fun, and so unique! It was by far my favorite piece in the program.
I’m going to play this with my orchestra in May. It’s a GREAT piece and I can’t wait! ☺️😉
Ahhh the memories
Played this a few year ago now
Playing this for a concert next week . . . needless to say I am concerned about keeping that speed the entire time.
I feel this so hard lmao. It's so hard to go so fast while also doing pizzicato
Anderson's version is even faster, but this one is more my liking. How did the concert go?
Glad to find this composition in a performance. Great band music. No one sounds like Persichetti.
Good, danceable onomatopeia. You can enjoyably love it.
I don’t think you know what onomatopoeia means
Just imagine a 1950s highway scene or 1950s people rushing around or shopping to this playing.
This is more defined as a animal type scene, cats or dogs or birds perhaps. Human scenes are always more emotional or spontaneous.
This is some of my most favourite music. Played brilliantly!
Fantastic!
lovely! you guys make me miss Portland !
Best version anywhere.
*I CAN’T SQUEEK!*
Rub some rosin on your palm.
Phenomenal
Thank you for the wonderful performance! We are inspired by you.
So cute music! I love it.
A BOP.! LOVE THIS!
This song cheers me up when I am in a bad mood
This piece by Leroy Anderson was used as the theme music for the Goodson/Toddman/CBS TV game show:"I've Got A Secret?"hosted by Gary Moore.
i’ve never been so happy to play a piece especially in my last year in a high school orchestra
Bien chicos!!! Hermosa pieza musical...sigan sigan, son ejemplo para los demás jóvenes 😊 saludos desde Uruguay ❤
They are all so wonderfully talented!
Amazing job! You'll be on my Favorites playlist for a long time.
How wonderful is this!!!!!!

1:20 the squeak is so creative

i love the way the conductor is conducting
One of my favorite songs by orchestra music
How cute!
Bravo!!
This made me smile. :)
This is such a pleasant song , the conductor did really good along with the orchestra!
This song destroys my fingers 😭 but it’s so fun and I keep playing through the pain
Y is my teacher making us 12 years old play this thing?! This sounds crazy!!!!😱😱😱😱
Elena Lam It's CRAZY fun!!! I played this in highschool, and my orchestra loved it so much that we learned it in less than a month!
Its hard at first but when u get into it
*OHHHHHH HOW FUN IT WILL BE!!!!!*
Well, I am in fourth grade and doing this thing!!!!! So stop complaining
this was also the theme to "I've got a secret " from 1952-1967
My daughter play this song in school🥰😍👍

Can't wait to play this for All City. Also does anyone know how to do that weird squeek think on the back of the instrument?
Everyone playing this and my teacher just make us dance xD
かわいい曲💕
懐かしい、掃除の時間のテーマ。
Does anyone else think this sounds like a soap commercial?
Lolol not really
A.Krishna this was played for commercials back then actually so if you’re really old you’d hear this in commercials lmao
@@burnt_salad2731 I'm 66 and I remember this from commercials and cheesy educational films.

I'm not being facetious when I say this. This is charming.
i’m a wood wind and my orchestra teacher told us to print this out lol... he was testing us

i cant even keep up with the speed when i accompanied the strings the first time 😭
We're playing this in our orchestra but a lot slower
bravo
Genius
Great tempo here!
This composition puts the "pizzazz" in "pizzacato"!
CUTE!
Classy! Better tempo than even Leroy did.
Oh, How wonderful!
It’s probable that the Stanley Parable’s “Informing Stanley” based upon this song
Who here heard this song from school
Me,teacher make me
@Alice Ling26 My teacher showed it to us :)
1.20 Leroy Anderson was beyond inventive! How is that marked on the score? haha
I played this in 4th grade
👍👍👍😘😘😘
Only strings in such orchestra!
is this not the coolest song ever?
Also one of the coolest songs to play
Leroy Anderson was a master of cool songs.
@@TheLpbrennan Indeed, and such happy music!
Piece*
Fun to play, but blisters for days 😭
LOL my high school orchestra was nowhere NEAR as professional as this orchestra was when playing this😂
Who else played this at their concert?
Somebody, somebody pls explain how to make that scratching/squeaking sound my ensemble tried and only one girl could do it 😭😭
好
this is a very good song Nozomi Vega
When I hear this song, I feel like I was go to vacation and just wear a red bag,and walk phumping phumping into beach..
Theme song from the old show I've got a secret.

To me somehow it sounds like a song in Beauty and the Beast, the part where all cups and plates dance, I think...?
