@madrekid No, it was in Newark, DE. The joint was called The Stone Balloon. I saw a lot of great bands there, including Metallica. Sadly, it is long gone.
I still have and routinely play my LPs of "Un-Led-Ed" and "5,000,000 Tortelvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" and my "Hot and Spicy Beanburger" CD. My 12-year-old daughter is now a big fan too. Those who managed to get through the novelty aspect and actually listened were able to realize that DZ could actually play and had some great songs.
I saw these guys at 328 Performance Hall in Nashville, and it was incredible! At that show someone brought Tortelvis a cheeseburger which he proceeded to take a bite of (while still singing), then he tore it into little pieces and handed it out like communion wafers to the folks up front. All while the band members were playing their asses off behind him. Utter genius, and a truly memorable event!
@@dougcampbell7032 In addition to getting to play there, I saw SO many great shows at 328! You weren't there for the King's X Ear Candy tour kickoff were you (July 1996)?
My old friend, Gary Putnam (aka Buttmon) is one of the greatest guitar players of all time! He basically unstraps his guitar to work out only. His guitar is an extension of his soul and he will forever ROCK THE HELL!!
15-20 years ago I ran into Butt Boy at an AC/DC concert in Anaheim, and I was wearing my DZ Classics tshirt. He was super stoked to see me wearing one and talked a bit with me and my wife.
Got lucky and sat down for a couple of beers with Tort Elvis years ago. Was one of the best nights of my Life!!! I was hooked on the band after hearing them for the first time back in the day.
First time I heard the mighty DZ, I was driving down the street in Denver, CO. "Heartbreaker..." came on the radio, and after listening to it through, I made a hard left turn into a record store and bought the cassette of Un-LED-ed. Been hooked ever since. I made every one of my friends listen to them until they, too, loved them as much as I did. Saw them live half a dozen times, and each show ranks at the top of the best concerts I've ever seen. They are fantastic!
Wonderfull i remember this guys in São Paulo, Brazil in 1991/1992. I was living in the south of Minas Gerais...Great Time. A lot of cover bands. Something thats start to happen in Brazil at the time...
I saw Dread Zeppelin with Mojo Nixon and a Full band Opening.Someone got a Black Blow up Sheep onstage which the Keyboardist put on top of his Piano.Mojo got the crowd to Chant," Fuck the Sheep Fuck the sheep!" which the keyboardist Obliged.Dread Zeppelin were Great, and One of The Loudest Bands I ever saw.Van Halen Loud.
I saw the same lineup at a little venue in Chicago. Great show, including the inflatable sheep. Also saw Dread a few times in Detroit. At one show, a daytime festival, my buddy recognized an out of costume Tort Elvis and struck up a conversation. Since we were wearing Dread T-shirts from a previous tour we were invited backstage and they shared Heinekens and a doobie with us. Great guys.
As so many others: this brings back some long lost memories. Looking forward to the doco! I have a couple of Dread Zeppelin CDs in my collection, and I don't think that I have listened to any of it since the 90s.
This is unexpected....Love them massive, the fun thing is the guitarist really playibg so well, learnin Zepplin is standard for any serious guitarist of that era, but what he did was (although likely serendepidous) completely brilliant. His amps too, matchbox ones with mics...lol! I know the bass player took over vocals, and they started doing another band...maybe AC DC as reggae or something...could be mistaken! Hope to learn more when the film is out Dec 21, 2024.
Look, I was a huge Zeppelin fan back then and I remember these guys. They were nowhere near "Taking the music industry by the jugular and shaking it" Everyone knew it was a joke.
i know! just because a band of gods are so good doesn't mean they have a sense of humor. as great as zeppelin were, they never took themselves seriously.
Where will this be and when can I have some?

Now to open up slot to watch this EPIC!
The second time I saw these guys, all the tvs in the bar were showing live feed of the cops chasing O.J. in the white bronco! What a night! 🤠
Was that in Dover? Crazy night!

My goodness, taking me back to 1990 with that one. I always wondered what ever became of Dread Zeppelin. Those guys were true entertainers.

@ With Podunk? Yep! Saw Blues Traveler and Northern Pikes there around the same time as well.

Great band! Still holds up today!
These guys were awesome.
Un-Ledded is my ultimate feel good album. Just brilliant start to finish.
I must of seen these guys like 7 times at the masquerade in Atlanta over the years. My dad loved these guys.
I went to one of their shows. They were a lot of fun. The music and energy was awesome.
The only thing I can remember was the suit and skinny leopard skin tight trousers..it looked so funny ..but your right the energy was there
They were SUCH A FUN band to watch. Saw them at Wetlands/NYC a few times. The crowd was a part of the show.
I missed seeing these guys live EVERY TIME they played near me. Like Decades of missing them.
I am in the same boat. Dammit !
Saw ‘em at Peabody’s in Cleveland in ‘96 and ‘97 - great stuff. Let’s get a world tour going whenever this documentary comes out!
I loved these guys in the 90's. So good.
Cool band. Had the t-shirt Plant's sporting!
Keep On Truckin'
Hope we get to see his "Big 'Ol Gol Belt"!
🎵🎶🇪🇹
All the precious metals that they had to smelt....
Not just a”novelty” band, these guys could really play. They were real musicians and very entertaining. Rock On!
Their 1st LP! Kick arse! I bought the CD and fell in love with the style!
Lucky to see them twice! Super fun show!!
Saw them live. Absolutely amazing.
was lucky enough to open for the legends! great great band
Somebody tell Justin in Portland, Oregon there's a documentary about his favorite band.
Saw them first time 1990 so THANK YOU for the flashbacks 💜🤘💜😎🤘
Great guys. I have nothing but love for them.
Oh....HELL YEAH...and WOW!!! 👍🙏
Great band!
You guys are GREAT!
Musically it was pretty much flawless, always wondered if the band had outside help with the arrangements

I was a teenager at the time and basically just looked at them as a fun band
LOVE THIS BAND!! Always have
This takes me back to my Bay area east bay days.
I saw them on CSUS campus in mid 80s
I got them. 999 friends didn’t. One did. Sucks to be them.
As so many others: this brings back some long lost memories. Looking forward to the doco!

I've seen them live a number of times. Absolute monster musicians.
I loved these guys! I GOT the "joke". First saw them at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA... What a HOOT!
YES!
Yes!
These guys rocked
Awesome! The Zeppelin documentary I didn’t know I needed.
Love this! Right on, Tort!!
Long time no see, Tortelvis.
Don't let the jokes fool ya -this is a killer band.

Gary 'Butt Boy' Putman is one of the greatest musicians in world full of greatest musicians! He's one of them!
Even without the gimmicks the live show was fantastic. They were terrific musicians and the re-interpretation of the songs were all excellent
Gods of the underworld
Bravo.
Tortelvis has entered the building 🎉
Oh hell yeah
They were really fun to see live !

This should have come out long ago.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Greg did you ever see the animatic for the song you guys did for me? Loved working with you:)
FINALLY!
It's the most brilliant concept in the history of brilliant concepts. For reals.
Chicken Boo-ga-loo!!!
Such a great concept, brilliantly executed. Thankyouverymuch.
"Is this for real, or is this a joke?"
Yes.

At once a joyous celebration and scathing indictment of Rock and Roll.

"Is this for real? Or is it a joke?"
Well...
Yes.
For the animated show/video game?
Is this for real? Or is it like that hundred dollar '59 les paul on reverb?
100% real. Full movie on our channel December 21st
Go listen to Candy Store Rock. Led Zeppelin would've definitely gotten the joke.
i know! just because a band of gods are so good doesn't mean they have a sense of humor. as great as zeppelin were, they never took themselves seriously.
Does this doc include the ENTIRE DZ lineup over the years? My husband was in that band for 14 years and we know nothing about this 🤔
I there a film coming out? A live video? A tour? Trailer for what???
As well as Ted Zepplin
Groups like Mac Sabbath and Metalachi wouldnt exist today if it werent for DZ.
I'm surprised the yanks got it! 😜
They were ok but not as groundbreaking as other bands at the time, just more hyped.
This evening I’m going to see Elvana in Bournemouth. A nirvana tribute act with an Elvis impersonator front man.
