I got that same woah feeling when I tried the Cinematic preset... I never flew circles round a tree that steady before and my twitchy stick inputs were all smoothed out. That was really awesome!
Bf is hesitant to include presets, becouse a new version of the configuration has to be downloaded for each change.. so if a preset was damaging quads it would be hard to change.. if somebody would code the infrastructure to update the presete on the fly, they would be there. But so far nobody has volunteered the time to do that...

3 packs a day is good. I did this back in 2012 to get good at LOS quad acro. You can do more than 3, and on rainy days fly an indoor quad. It works! In 3 months time you will see a huge difference! You are already pretty good btw. I need to do tjis as well, my fpv flying could use some help
I have been flying with 4.2 since rc1, as a beginner I find this 4.2 to be really nice. One thing I was surprised is how good the filters work. Had a bad crash and lost my soft mounts, now the fc is hard mounted with steel bolts and nylon nuts. I have rpm filter enabled and sliders pushed to 2.0 and so far no problems.
I was initially super disappointed with 4.2 but maybe I'll give it another go. I had the same issues at the beginning, massive bounce backs/prop wash and bobbles that I could not tune out in the usual way, actually thought I had a weak motor/esc until I flashed back to original firmware/tune and was great again.
@JB, you overlooked an important part of the 4.2 puzzle, make sure to turn off the ADC filters on openTX radios, the device where clear to do so before attempting running some of the more aggressive scripts (even if turning xfireshot).

@@peterzingler6221, I flew and really liked 3.5.7 UNTIL last week. I setup 4.1 with the RPM settings per Jb's vid. It flies as good or better than 3.5.7 plus easier to change GPS/RTH settings. I'm very happy with 4.1 and now MAYBE take a look at 4.2
I know you like to run 48khz on your ESCs, and if you are, then that is the likely culprit of those bobbles. 4.2 for some reason is exacerbating the issue of 48khz having decreased torque and breaking.
Yep, I already told this to a couple of people seeing those throttle cut wobbles. If you still want to run 48khz, you need to reduce I term. I mostly set the multiplier to 0.7 and increase P/D to 1.4. that basically just reduces I term. It helps a lot, but I have never been able to fully get rid of those wobbles. Only on 24khz, there's absolutely no wobble.
TL;DR.......Betaflight has figured out how to make 'flow' into a setting. Joshua, I have to say thank you for your advice about dumping any previous notion of PIDS and using the sliders from scratch in 4.2.1 and another video where you talk about expo. I have struggled for nearly 3 years to get 'gud', not knowing what RCExpo actually does and never played with it. Well, last night I set some expo up with a few tweaks of the sliders from default and well, lets just say there's no more panicking for small gaps, split s' are snappy, flat and accurate, smooth flying fast an inch from the ground is a no-brainer and the quad essentially just does what I want when I want. I have some high throttle oscillations that I need to get rid of though......Less p-term?
I tried the cinematic setting, then my motor 3 starts acting weird. all motors arm fine but 3 shuts down when takes off. then I flash with JESC ( I panicked....), but 3 motors showed flash failed, motor 1, 2, and 4, not the problem 3. so I'm starting all over again as if I first got this quad. I hope I'm not making it worse. how strange is it.

funny i remember a set point that made the quad feel telepathic, telepathic and slightly better pilot than me, like i would input sticks and the quad would say h he wants a 3/4 roll and then pull up, but i would make a twitchy mess of it, but set point thing completed the move like i was a pro, completely disconcerting hehehe, turned it off.
You might want to try disabling lpf1 on the gyro since it generally doesn't do anything on clean quads with Rpm filtering on 4.2. I would log it and check it out. Make sure you have 3 harmonics checked on Rpm filtering.
Is it only me hearing it? One of your motor has a damaged ball bearings? It is either a badly bent prop - but that would be more noticeable on the footage - or the bearing is about to give up. I always use my recording to analyse my motors. Great video otherwise!

I'd like to build a drone for outdoor wargames. So I have 2 questions. 1) what is the best way to protect the wires/boards from accidentally being shot(bbs) 2) what visor do you recommend for best image quality and range Not looking for cheap, just function( although if the two line up I won't complain)
get a mavic air and an ipad with a screen protector. I'd build a metal wire cage around the props to protect it from bb's, and build an acrylic enclosure for the camera. the mavic air also has no exposed wires and boards, so you're good there. I'd also try covering the bottom of the drone in some kind of thin Styrofoam or ummagrip (look it up, great stuff) to absorb some of the impacts from BB's
Watch the rotorriot guns v drones video. Anyway, for BBs you have 0 concern. At 400fps it won't hurt the quads. Build a 5in (any will do but I'd use high end components with a durable frame) and get some decent props. I'd expect any decent plastic prop to survive shots with field legal fps/joules. I'd recommend the Gemfan 51433 as they seem durable. as for video, we call them goggles, the best bang for the buck would be a set of used HDOs (sub $300) with a TBS fusion module ($120-130). Dont get a mavic, the prop aren't nearly as durable & its more expensive then the BEST betaflight 5in you could build. tldr; get any decent 5in drone setup, it'll handle it. Theres 0 need for concern regarding wires because on any neat build they'll be tucked away and VERY short.
I want to build a 5inch freestyle but I'm not great with betaflight would a 4.2 preset be the best option for me? I have a 5inch which was tuned for my by someone else but that's not an option anymore, I also fly a tinyhawk 2 freestyle I would love it if anyone had improved the pids
Why don’t I hear about expos in controls when it comes to drones? I’m assuming you can tone down the center stick for more subtle corrections . I haven’t made the jump yet from wings . But looking to sooner than later . Still in my research phase .
John Kurpiewski we used to change expos on the transmitter as well but as flight controllers got better that moved over to the FC. all the expos are now handled by the FC

FPV quads generally have a configurable OnScreenDisplay (OSD) in real time flights.
I actually think DJI goggles look quite cool. Well ,here I am using box goggles.
