Before you argue with the title: I said the fastest FREESTYLE drone. This is a 5" freestyle drone that comes out of the box ready for 8S voltage. That's what the title is referring to. I think this is the first and only time this has been done.
To comment on the channels in the arms, they dont remove as much strength as you think. Reasoning is that arm is shaped like a C channel, which gets the vast majority of strength from the material on the edges. This is why tubes work, as well as steel I beams. The weakest part of the channels would be torsional stiffness, considering it looks something like CF nylon thats a non-issue. An interesting topic is sandwich theory (not for food!), and it explains some of the nuance in these construction
That quad is only good if fly open fields, and never crash. I guarantee you I'd tear those little pretty LED side plates off within an hour of flying😂😂
I think you might find the hollow arms are stronger than you think, they would definitely be a lot stronger than solid arms the same weight, that would have to be much thinner to weigh the same. The tabs on the ends and 3d printed bumper design aren’t any good and won’t protect the motors though
Your analysis of the arms is suspect: milling out a groove isn't the equivalent of a thinner arm. A U shaped arm will be much stronger than a flat arm. It should be adding a lot of rigidity and strength by being shaped that way.
It is only much stronger when the amount of material is the same, but drilling away material adds another variable. A solid 7mm arm is stronger than the same arm that has had a channel drilled out of it.
Just in case someone is still wondering why an increase of FPV production in recent years, it's the Ukranian war, they use thousands of FPV drones each month. Both sides are racing them against eachother around the battlefield through gates, bandos (there's a lot of conviently placed and ample ruins) and trenches to find out the victor of the individual skirmishes and that determines the flow of the frontline.
Neat BNF! Not a huge "fan" of the fan lol why not just put the VTX on a switch, that way you could power the drone without worrying that the 03 will heat up. It's just one more thing that can fail and adds extra weight.
Hi Josh, WOW ! 8s, I'm going to need a new charger for this one, but I'm not sure if it should be flown. It looks like a wall quad. There's just too much to break. Those arms look like they will break on an easy crash, but for me, it's the price that kills it. Thanks again for the video and info on this quad.
most of the quads comes with ATF405 or even F411 i have seen in geprc, I don't know how hard it is to throw a F405. it takes the confidence out of the game.
Hey JB I have an idea for you next time you wanna do a durability test. Next time try some powerloops dare I say Matty flips mayyyyybe a JB Trippy spin perhaps? Come on man 😂.
Guess you have flown the EMAX Babyhawk 2 (analog for less weight) This 3,5 inch RIPS like a lightning on 4s Tattu R- lines v5.0. --Incredible ripper on affordable 4s batteries. I mean... yeah 8s is cool as hell. But my wallet is screaming harder than any motor on these 8s batteries!
The thing is this 1600kv on 8s is like using 2133kv on 6s, of course it will have more power. It's like when everyone was saying 6s was more powerful than 4s but they were just using higher comparably kv motors and bigger batteries. Power comes from voltage, kv, motor size, props etc. You have to have a fair comparison. A fair comparison to 1800kv on 6s would 1350kv on 8s. There are advantages of higher voltage like less sag etc, but saying it's more power is just not accurate. There are also disadvantages like more expensive electronics, fewer chargers available, using smaller individual cells etc. Higher kv motors are often less efficient so going higher kv is not always a good option.
@Belrmar yeah for sure, but it's the increased KV giving you more power, if you use the comparable KV then you'll have the same power, many people don't understand this
@@serenestateofbeing1062 exactly! The efficiency of the motors would be better yes, but the efficiency of the ESC may not be so it depends on the whole setup
If you matched kv, you would get more power, but the motor would heat up, reducing efficiency and increasing battery sag. At some point, thus becomes a limiting factor, and that's when it makes sense to go to a higher voltage.
Hi JB...love the way you deliver your new product tests - only thing I wish that you would do is keep the OSD visable during the flight videos, so as all of your subs can see whats actually happening during the flight tests. IMO would also fantastic to show the rates your useing during the flights aswell - because as most of us know and understand that just a few % differences in rates can make every quad fly and perform extremely different ( from amazing to not so great)...love your work n thank you for all the time n effort you goto to keep your subs informed n upto date on this fast evolving hobby 👍
Hey Joshua! Just wanted to come here and give a huge thanks to you, and ItsBlunty. I sent you an email about some ELRS binding help and within the next day you directed me to him, who within the hour had my problem fixed and I was in the air again. not only did he give me all the help and resources I needed, but he also taught me more than I could’ve imagined about the grey areas I had in FPV, and has now open the door for many more avenues in the hobby for me. Thank you!!
You know what it's kind of weird but I've been having XT 60s getting real loose on few quads lately In my batteries have been popping off too to me they seem cheaply made lately the connectors who knows though lol 🤣
Hey JB, went to try 6S on my Tyro119 yesterday, and my VTx died (I think from a voltage spike since video cut out right after flips/punches)! Do you have any recommendations for analog VTxs that would fit the Tyro119 stack specifically? I didn’t see any that I think would on your guide. Thanks!
From my experience, putting the GPS near a FPV camera is bad, they are noisy bastards! My best result with a GPS was right at he bottom of a vista antenna, in the quiet zone, 28 Sats and this was with a Flywoo GOKU GM10 Nano V3
I've been looking for a 10s brushless speed controller... Preferably with hall sensors. So far I have not found anything that takes a direct R/C signal from a receiver. Anyone got a line on one?
Wouldn’t the GPS do better under the VTX antenna where the null zone is. I have my drone setup this way and had 16 satellites last time I flew. If you separate them you expose the GPS to the radiation pattern. Just my opinion
who NEEDS anything FPV really. You can always choose not to watch if you're not interested. What someone is interested in is just a point of view really.

yes, but if it shows durability issue without the battery then you just need to do the math. If the battery was taken out and then declared unbreakable, then you would have a point.

Yeah, kind of like I beams...
Damn Bardwell...I dont think I have seen you rip this hard before! Some SUPER nice proxy moves in this video.
I preferred it when he was crap at flying. Being the same age as he is I now have no excuse for my poor flying
I finished my 8s build yesterday and now there in a 8s bnf
I love my life rn
You learned so much more doing a build man
I still need yo build cause I want an 8S 10" 3115 700kV
That quad is only good if fly open fields, and never crash. I guarantee you I'd tear those little pretty LED side plates off within an hour of flying😂😂
Thats exactly how the Diatone side plates work. Friction fit around the center standoffs. They pop right on/off.
We are a Sequre Dealer, FYI they are from the owner of HGLRC. So been in the FPV industry for some time now.
I haven't been this exited about new drones in years. 8S baby I can't wait!!

36:50 i actually thought I was having a stroke 😂
I thought Josh was having the stroke.
The punches make it look like velocidrone. lol
INSANE power.
I love their Sequre soldering iron!
Postman in the second flight didn't even flinch while he dropped off all the parts.
He was enjoying the show 🤣
Fantastic flying and review, Joshua! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
The arms are like trussbeams. Means the 6mm outer hight will hopefully do the structural job.
The sheer joy and excitement that JB displayed, while expressing the 'feeling' of 5" on 8s, is one of my fav. things in quite some time.

I just started flying again. This is the first I've watched in over a year. This gives me new build ideas, but I really want thos frame to play with.
Its so heavy I think the trees ducked instead of trying to catch it. 😀
I believe hobby is not the only reason why chinese companies are getting into fpvs:)
That was JBs point.
The scientific durability test was my favourite part.
Your pfp and username are my favorite
I am really interested in your t-shirt. Where did you get it from?
Interesting that they went from soldering irons to quads. They seem to have done well.
Nice review. but your Amp's displayed in the goggle is wrong
next level.... 12s3P lipo's!!!.. LOL
I wanted to build my 10" as 8S. Just the board was $250 for the amps I needed
I bought a Pavo 20 and fly oasis25. Not buying anything else until flight controllers get cheaper
Good durability, but I know who I will NOT be picking as my beer pong partner with those throws :D
It's an ambitious project by a manufacturer who is trying not to fizzle out on launch.
I agree though it's a bit too smart for it's own good.

Very clever.

I think those arms are actually metal with CF top and bottom plates.
Explain the tip chipping off then.
@JoshuaBardwell yeah, I commented prematurely. My bad.
