Shelby, my situation is probably common with a lot of others. I was out of work and found out while I was on unemployment the state would pay for my truck driving school. That was a no-brainer for me. It was very very difficult in the beginning. I only lasted two and a half months over the road. I was very fortunate a local trucking company took me in with what little experience I had. it was honestly because they overlooked it on my application. I kept my mouth shut for the first year. After that I told my boss I was surprised you took me in with what little experience I had. He got mad and said did you lie to me. I said no good look at the application. Then he smiled and said you've been here a year accident-free you're in now. I'm a born again Christian and gave God all the thanks for getting me a local job so early in my career. Believe me it wasn't easy whatsoever I had a lot of adjusting and growing up to do. But the job serve this purpose putting money in my bank and helping me to mature as a person. Agreed. I've lived in city limits for over a decade, and the only issues I've had are with high cost of living, which happens in every city. Almost no one comes across a protest unless actively seeking them out.
A year and half for me as well. I love it! Having lived in DC for twelve years prior to Portland, it has been a boon to my physical and mental health.

Thank you for all the content in this video ❤ I'm getting into trucking because im a single mom trying to find stability in my life and provide for my girls. The one thing that makes me cry is how much I'll miss them while I'm away, and the guilt of not being there for them everyday.
Watching you being happy with your life and seemingly enjoying it, makes me happy as well. It's such a joy to watch people enjoying life as it's meant to be.

Shelby your driving, backing, bumping dock skills are showing the industry vital techniques very few find out for years. Trucking has been the most fantastic job I've had for 38 years no matter what happens everyday it's the greatest adventure. But it's not easy to keep handling dangerous conditions that can happen in a split second 10x's a day. Convincing myself is getting harder and harder because my dashcam real time video shock the heck out of me watching the daily near miss death wrecks. I'm glad you're capable of sharing and teaching many things running OTR. So many topics need to be immediately learned. I've watched 1000's of great drivers give up after just 8 years. The impact talent implementing safety to those in the dark have helped save lives. Why you are leaving is sad but obviously what you want. We all wish you success knowledge is Gold. Please remember all the drivers you've left behind. We have and will continue to miss you.

I got into trucking a couple weeks after my 21st birthday. Been doing it for 7 months and one of the first things I’ve realized is that I’ve seen more in that period of time than I have in my entire life. It’s changed my perspective on a lot of things and shown me the value of being to yourself and being able to think freely, and even think out loud where nobody is there to judge you 🤔 it’s been a great decision

Thank you for this video. I came across you today and started watching a few vid and they definitely re-grounded me. Last two years of my life have had some real bad set backs. It's been hard not wanting to just give up. But I know it's through pain that we grow. Trucking has definitely been the one constant thing in my life and over all is what makes me happy. I agree. For most people, their job is all they have, but what they really need is a reason for going to work. Work to have the free time to enjoy life and find an excuse to live an interesting and exciting life. Find a passion, whether it's hiking, painting, playing music, traveling, or something else that gets you motivated each day. I like to travel and be outside, so I got interested in native American history. Just my own thing.

Once again you amaze me. Your words and enthusiasm for new drivers or like me seasoned drivers is out of the park. Finding your passion takes time. It takes patience and persistence. I’ve spent more than 1/2 of my career life chasing something that paid the bills. I went to school and it was intriguing, but always felt a longing for more. For 18 years I conquered many challenges, but still felt empty. Then one day I sat back and reviewed all the jobs that I’ve had and one common factor was driving. I had to drive to most of my jobs and I always looked forward to the drive to work or the drive home afterword. This lead me to a driving career. I’ve now logged more than 1.2 million miles and yes there are challenges, days where you just want to be done. However this country has so much beauty, so many beautiful people and places to see. Being away from family is one of the largest challenges. But knowing that I’m backed by my wife and kids for all the time away is all for the greater good. My time at home I cherish and I work for a Company that focuses on family. The company has adopted not only me but my entire family. Companies like this are very rare and very hard to find. I’m very blessed to have this fit and to be part of a great family. Finding Your Passion is hard work but let me say when you find it. You just know ❤️
In the last 4 months. Have you driven to Portland Oregon? I do not recommend moving there. It is not safe for truck drivers! Especially pretty women. but if you choose to go there I wish you nothing but the best. and I'll see you on the road, sister.
This month is my 1 year anniversary of truck driving and i celebrated by seeing family ive been away from for too long. They are the purpose i started in this industry and this video reaffirmed my recent realization that I need to step back, see the big picture, and remind myself of the end goal!
