I'm definitely going to have to hear these SVS subs in person sometime. Your wife gave the thumbs up because she knows you're going to have to buy her something nice in order to keep that monster sub. lol
I'll have you know the wife gets spoiled any occasion I get. Obviously I have expensive taste and she reaps the benefits. Wifey happy and Im happy. haha
In my opinion, I think the test should have placed the subs in the same location because I have experienced vast difference in the bass response of a sub moved from the left of the screen to the right for example.
You are a smart man for putting your wife right next to PB, because I think if the subs were switched she would have said the SB. I HAVE SB16,s because my wife said there is no way you are putting 2 refrigerator in our living room. LOL
Good choice. If space is a consideration though, the sb 4000 is still a great choice as there are enough adjustments that you can make regarding tightness, equalization, gain etc to make it sound virtually identical (or even louder within the system to the ph 4000) till you reach the maximum acoustic output of the sub.
I will say, I think there’s a disadvantage to one of those subs. They are about six feet apart and a foot can make a difference, even inches. Also, your wife is a lot closer to the PB than the SB. I think to be fair each sub should be in the same spot and run room calibration before testing. You may be getting more bass at the MLP from the PB as it seems closer to a corner.. maybe I’m wrong...just my thoughts.
audessy only lets you run 8 positions each 2 feet apart from the first. So it factors in a "cloud" round your MLP. Other positions probably sound good too, but audessy doesnt factor those in. They were measured equidistant from the enter sub and the only difference was about a few inches closer to the MLP since the pb was sooo huge. They are both the same distance to the corners since the tv is centered in the room and the subs are the same distance apart. Is it perfect no, but It was a quick comparrison between the two.
Falcon, you are right. There is such a thing as boundary gain. The PB being closer to the wife would account for her feeling the PB more but even with those statements being true, there's a reason the PB carries $400 premium. It's simply More Sub. Physics says you need a big box to get really low. Look at the size difference.
Rob J Oh yea, no doubt. I’d like to try out dual SB-4000 or even dual SB-16. Those SB’s get low enough and look better to me aesthetically. Yes, ported will get lower and have a little more output but if you’re getting below 15hz does it matter? lol. It all depends on what you want, what you like, room size, space, and money!!!
FalconsATL yesss, I have an 18 by 22 living room, and I have a 9.2.2 set up, and the svs sb 2000 duals are more than enough in my space. I also prefer the sealed subs with music, over the ported, and I listen to a lot of music 🎼
From the youtube audio, I find the pb 4000 to have a fuller, slightly boomy bass, really like the fuller bass when used in the lord of the ring. While the sb4000 gives a quicker more transient bass, but a somewhat thinner, and I really prefer the quicker bass in the Kendrick Lamar music.
Best movie to test bass on is U-571 When there in the submarine being depth charged by the German destroyer" its so immersing" you feel like your in the submarine and the walls are about to crack"
I got an SB 3000 instead of a pb2000. The cost on the SB was only 50$ more than the pb2000 (outlet). I only watch movies, it’s in a small bedroom. Do you think i made a good choice? Larger sealed vs smaller ported? i really like to feel/breathe my bass I do not have space for dual right now until about a year. I was told with room gain the sealed would sound like or better than a ported.
The result was as it should have been. 9 times out of 10, this is the result when space isn't an issue. I was only listening with my pc speakers but I think it would take a movie that really concentrated on the low end to allow the PB to shine more than it did.
I’m looking at the SVS Subwoofer. Either way that level sub is pretty expensive. $1500 or $1900 plus the size difference is huge!! I think the SB-4000. Picking the right sub is a little confusing too. Lol 😂
The sealed versions are much smaller. They have slightly less output too. I like both. Try out the Sb-3000 or the pb3000. They are cheaper and still have great performance
Good observation. Since I sent back the SB-4000 I can do another comparrison with sealed Versus ported while plugging up the ports on the 4000. Thanks buddy!
You can tweak the ported 4000 to sound more like the sealed 4000, but you can't tweak the sealed 4000 to reach those single digit hz that the ported 4000 can hit.
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude He means sonically, do you hear a tighter bass response from the sealed versus the ported box. From my experience ported boxes appear to give more bass than sealed enclosures, but the ported enclosures actually provide a tighter, deeper bass response than ported. It's just that many people associate bass with boominess, and it's part of it but a good sub should sound tight, controlled, and deliver bass with authority... I think the sealed subs do just that.
Like the comparison but I'm left to think that it might not have been done as correctly as possible. If you are doing a serious A/B comparison the position of the subs needs to be pretty much identical. That difference in position (like 1,5 meters?) can favor one or the other sub significantly. I know, it's hard to do proper comparisons with big boxes, but unless you do it right you might end up with the wrong conclusions. Also the 2nd listening position and wifes opinion has the same problem. Since the position is not equidistant to both subs, the position is going to favor either of the subs. In this case it's no surprise that she liked the relatively nearfield response of PB-4000 since the room does not affect the sound nearly as much as the SB-4000. But I'm pretty much nitpicking here, you can get impression on both subs while not doing everything by the book.
That Home Theater Dude Well I do not have the need to compare subs at the moment, but when I've done it I did it as I said. It helped me a lot when I tried to find out the differences related to subs when the difference in positioning couldn't interfere with the sound. But as I said, you can get the impressions on subs while not doing it by the book. I also know you've sent the SB-4000 back. I think you ended up with better setup with the PB's. I like your channel, keep up the good work.
If cost and space is not an issue, I don't see why there needs to be a SB vs PB thing. The PB can become a SB whenever you want it to. It's the better performer any way you look at it.
That's what I've been saying. You're a smart guy. I just wanted to get both and pin the, against each other. I had the SB-4000 a month and was blown away by the pb-4000 within a day. Yes you are right about the smace and money
Not exactly. The SB is in a smaller enclosure and it's totally and perfectly sealed. Because of this the driver will have better transient response and deliver tighter bass. Depending on the system you run them with, the SB may be a better choice. For instance, if you pair dual SB4000s with a set of Klipsch Cornwalls, you will likely get better synergy than with the PB4000s, simply because all the Cornwalls need to sound amazing is some tight and precise bass down low, which is exactly what the SB4000s deliver.
alegend2k I’m going to say it depends. Dual 13 ultras is really all most people need and they are really hard to pass up at their price. But if you want the new stuff then I would say go dual pb-4000s. I haven’t heard too many great things said about the 16 ultras. But if you really feel like you need them and price and space isn’t a factor then try 1 of the 16 ultras out in your house for 45 days and if it’s a bad fit then send it back to them and get the pb-4000. I’m super impressed with mine and I think other people will be impressed with it too. Cheers.
I've heard the 16 ultra at a demo and it didnt sound much different than the -4000. With the 16 ultra you get into a realm of diminishing returns since you are only adding 300w for an extra $600. But you get a bigger chunk of that subsonic low end. The 16 ultra has the capability to be tuned to 13,14 or 15hz, which is why its a tough choice between that and the pb-4000. If price inst a concern then go with the single 16 ultra
alegend2k I'd go with dual PB4000. I don't think there's a drastic difference between PB4000 and PB16, and I'm sure you know the benefits of dual subs. The drawback is price, dual PB4000 will cost more than a single PB16 but if you're willing to spend the money and have the space for 2 subs then IMO it's the better option.
@@ohnoitsmarco Hahaa. Yeah see the thing is, I like to crank it up a bit to get the full experience. But then she complains that the whole has is shaking :)
The ported filled the space better and more fully than did the sealed. You feel more Pressure from a sealed. You hear more from a ported. Dealers choice what they prefer, I like my home theater to mimic the theater. Thats why i dig ported over sealed. Plus in my space (since it it open to 1000+Sq/ft) Ported works best. In rooms that are enclosed by 4 walls sealed may be the solution. These arent hard and fast rules either. You can go with what you prefer
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude I ask this because I have a ported klipsch r 110 sw, and was thinking of upgrade for a sb2000 (due to the height limit I can't get pb2000/1000 ) and my room is small ( About 170sq/ft ). And thanks, great videos in your channel.
before u had subs corner loaded, now they are flanking the center channel. did u notice a big difference in sound quality and output from subs flanking center channel. do u hear more of deeper bass. thinking about doing that to my 2 pb4000s. my room is square 14' by 14' and 8' ceiling
corner loaded will give you a decent response if tuned proper. WHat i have now is pretty close to 1/4 length placement. they say this adds a few db by having them so close together. I think the overall sound is better now. When I had one sub it sounded great in the corner. I still want to mess with placement, but i think i will do that at the new house
It is clear from your unscientific, sighted, listening comparison, that one sub is more suited for music and the other for movies. Simply, one sound is tighter and subjectively more musical and they other more deep bass and output.
Amad Zee exactly, I have dual sb2000 s sealed subs, and they are more than enough for my space, 18 by 22 ft living room. I can’t imagine more... also the size is perfect, I don’t want a 150 pound sub. I need to be able to move my audio equipment without help, 😂. Plus music sounds excellent with these svs sealed. If you have a very large room, then by all means, yes you will need a step up. But smaller spaces, not
For this test to be legit, the Subs have to be in the exact same position.. Room response dynamics from one location to the other differ drastically One sub could be optimally placed for this test and the other not depending on the in room response... but i understand moving such heavy equipment around is a problem.
You need more room for these subs. Ur bsically next to them. Angling them to walls is way to go not just straight impact to couch at 2m away. 10" Subs soundwave goes about 27 feet withput dissortion.
hey. very nice video but i theres one thing bothering me. i have a Denon receiver and an LG OLED TV but whenever i try to listen to music on TH-cam the receiver goes automatically in PL II Music and if i try to force DTS theres no sound coming from the speakers. i see you have dolby surround when watching TH-cam clips so, why can't i do that aswell? i know the sound would be a lot better.
Its a setting on your outputs. Look at what you have it set to on your settings. If its on auto its probably doing the switching for you. conversly it could be on your denon settings too. poke around and see what you find
The more i see the svs pb-4000 the more my mind is like yup i will be more then happy to own just 1 of these great subwoofers.Nice video bro keep em going .
you need dual or 4 subs in each corner. And you can get better subs with the same money. JTR or PSA subs produce lot louder and deeper. ex. one PSA S3012 sub will equal to 3 SVS SB4000 (almost). SVS are not true 13.5 inch drivers.
Tech. its IMPOSSIBLE to really for us to hear what you are hearing UNLESS we have the exact same systems you to listen through.Everyone is listening through PC speakers and which is why I never do Sound demos no matter what you record on its the same result It only as good as our sound system on PC is my 2 cents brotha
Some people watch my videos through their youtube app on their tv or cast it to their tv from their phone. If their avr is on then its a tad more realistic. But I didn't plan on it being a perfect representaion. I just wanted to let you guys know which one was better for us and our house. I'll get a better mic to give a better sound but that wont fix the way people watch the videos. I'm just trying to give you guys guality content. I am just starting out, so prodution values are always improving. Thanks for the critique
That Home Theater Dude totaly understand that. But as long asyou are happy with your setup screw me and tge general public LOL. If you retest that again then my suggestion is Port of Subs are always 4 to 6 DB higher right off the bat so it's not apples for apples the sealed Subs always have to be driven harder or turned out to be able to equal the output of a ported sub
I know its not apples to apples. I wanted to film which one I wanted to keep. Given both are optimized in settings and positions and everything was taken into concideratrion some people would still perfer one over the other. It wasnt a fair test, but it was a fun idea
Yep, plates start at 30 and go up to hundreds. Wine ranges from $30/bottle to $8600/bottle. I'm not rich by any means. But I had some extra money from this winter season to fund this project. Thanks for watching
I can't afford 4000 lol I'm more in the 2000 price range . I want the one that's most balanced for music and movies both . in a 1200 SF open living room .
I love pantera. They recorded their albums right next to my house. I mean i didnt live here then but yeah. Best groove metal band ever. Just grab a Pb-2000. If you use my links to buy direct you can trade up to a higher model within a year when you have more cash. The 2000 is very capable and I really like it. Chest slamming, couch shaking bass
It's pretty good I just got it today and listen to some music and tv. I hoping this weekend I'll have more time to check it out with some movie time. I upgrading my old Martin Logan MLT system, the SVS defiantly has more low end. Not to mention it looks beautiful as well.
I have played many movies. If you check out my channel I have done a munch of demos with the sub. This movie was lord of the rings fellowship of the ring.
I got to ask since you had both porteded and sealed did you hook both of them up at the same time since each one has a different pro and con I'm thinking the user experience was all pro
Your listening volume is preeeetty much... ;D I have Klipsch RP8000F's as mains and one Klipsch R115SW as sub (Denon AVR-1400H as amp) and if i'd listen to that volume it would be an ear blowing experience... You must have really tough ears ;D Not to even mention your dogs..
Reference or nothing for movies. If you have your setup calibrated properly to 75 db of white noise from each speaker to your listening position then it shouldnt be ear fatiguing
Eventually. Gotta recoup some cash after buying two of these at once plus some other Things I bought for the channel this week. The reveal isnt recorded yet. Stay tuned!
That Home Theater Dude have you thought about mounting your Atmos enabled modules to the ceiling? My friend said his sounds wonderful mounted to the ceiling.
Doing it this weekend. I was thinking wall wounts down firing to MLP not actually putting on ceining. The pb-4000 would shake them loose like an apple on a tree
I’ll be getting my sb4000 within this week and this monster will be in my room lol I already have a klipsch r115sw subwoofer and I’ll try running both together
eeeeeeh... i didn't like the sound of the two playing together. Im sure if I sub crawled both of them and did dsp then it would sound good no matter if one was ported or not. It sounded muddy when I fired both up, but hey i'm often wrong so maybe yours will sound great. Cheers good buddy.
I tried and I got flagged for copyright. I have to either use stock music from imovie or use NCS music from youtube. If you find a better way let me know.
I've noticed that you're using the standard mode for the PB4000 (no ports plugged). Just wondering why don't use the extended mode (1 port plugged)? That mode has the best low frequency extension.
I will. I just wanted to do an out of the box test to compare the two. I will plug up a port soon when I get the room back together.. Thanks good buddy!
Yeah, I always wonder what the point was to use standard when it doesn't offer anything? Extended goes down to 13hz and the sealed mode is good for music even though it goes down to 18hz, which is not bad.
I'd like to hear the original video without the music covered up, so I can hear a comparison between the two subwoofers. Is there any other way I can view the video?
The sealed it great on its own, but I felt like I had to turn it up a bunch for music. The PB-4000 is best all around. It has higher SPL throughout the entire spectrum so it will be louder and more athoritative than the sealed version. I do 50 50 movies and music so the ported is best I think. Im going to do a video about plugging up all the ports on the pb to see how it sounds for music. Where you going to buy soon?
Maybe. They haven't stopped by to complain. Truley. I only push it during the day when most people are working. at night its normal listening. With great subwoofer comes great responsability

Bruh, watching this again and your dogs ears when the subs kick in is priceless.
Thanks for a good review, but why would you put some music instead of a real sub experience? I came here for a sub listening and not some mp3 music.

@@fabiozagoo What sub did you get? SB-2000?
@@485danne Have two SB 3000. Amazing subs.
@@fabiozagoo Really? Nice! Did you ever try out the 2000? Is the 3000 good for movies too?
before u had subs corner loaded, now they are flanking the center channel. did u notice a big difference in sound quality and output from subs flanking center channel. do u hear more of deeper bass. thinking about doing that to my 2 pb4000s. my room is square 14' by 14' and 8' ceiling
corner loaded will give you a decent response if tuned proper. WHat i have now is pretty close to 1/4 length placement. they say this adds a few db by having them so close together. I think the overall sound is better now. When I had one sub it sounded great in the corner. I still want to mess with placement, but i think i will do that at the new house
@@ThatHomeTheaterDude im going to do 1/4 wall placement also see how it sounds
What kind of tv stand do you have?
the standard one that comes on the sony xbr850
ohhhh nevermind. i have a cheapy from craigslist. i dont know the actual name
FYI: on the PB, you can always seal all 3 ports and now you have a SB. So the PB is 2 birds for one stone, best of both worlds
It is clear from your unscientific, sighted, listening comparison, that one sub is more suited for music and the other for movies. Simply, one sound is tighter and subjectively more musical and they other more deep bass and output.
Thanks Amad. Im glad you enjoyed the video!
The dogs are furious.
You need more room for these subs. Ur bsically next to them. Angling them to walls is way to go not just straight impact to couch at 2m away. 10" Subs soundwave goes about 27 feet withput dissortion.
👎 idiot
Great review!!! I love SVS subs but I sold both of my pb13 ultras and got 2 Seaton Submersive HP subwoofers
Ultra sonic!
Mmmmmm SEATON!!!
how much did you sell ur 13s??
Poor doggo tho, That sound gotta be insanely loud for him/her
ostegrillFTW pups haven’t complained yet
That Home Theater Dude well, considering they can hear subsonic sounds, imagine how loud that is for him 😂
dont you mean supersonic? they hear up to 45k hz
"after thinking" you mean, after re-watching the video? lol
hey. very nice video but i theres one thing bothering me.
i have a Denon receiver and an LG OLED TV but whenever i try to listen to music on TH-cam the receiver goes automatically in PL II Music and if i try to force DTS theres no sound coming from the speakers. i see you have dolby surround when watching TH-cam clips so, why can't i do that aswell? i know the sound would be a lot better.
Thanks Joe!
you need dual or 4 subs in each corner. And you can get better subs with the same money. JTR or PSA subs produce lot louder and deeper. ex. one PSA S3012 sub will equal to 3 SVS SB4000 (almost). SVS are not true 13.5 inch drivers.
👎 idiot
on low volumes sealed is better compared to ported
i can get on board with that
How do I order one PB 4'000 for myself?
Tech. its IMPOSSIBLE to really for us to hear what you are hearing UNLESS we have the exact same systems you to listen through.Everyone is listening through PC speakers and which is why I never do Sound demos no matter what you record on its the same result It only as good as our sound system on PC is my 2 cents brotha
That Home Theater Dude deff
My samsung galaxy s7 never had that much bass lol
Can someone tell me what is the exact name of this song of this version ..? time 1:30
What do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking?
I work at a fine dining restaurant in Dallas and I'm a grad student. I started youtube as a hobby to decompress from the pressures of school.
That Home Theater That place must pay well because I could barely afford food going through college.
Yep, plates start at 30 and go up to hundreds. Wine ranges from $30/bottle to $8600/bottle. I'm not rich by any means. But I had some extra money from this winter season to fund this project. Thanks for watching
That Home Theater Dude keep it up! It's fun to watch!
What a difference !😱👾
Big difference !
That Home Theater Dude I love the pb 4000 . Think that it is time for a upgrade 🤔👍
Hey Neven, Get PB 16 ultra man, your room is too big.
Srikanth yes it is 21 x 24 feet 😁👍
Prooblem with the PB is size
I can't afford 4000 lol I'm more in the 2000 price range . I want the one that's most balanced for music and movies both . in a 1200 SF open living room .
I love pantera. They recorded their albums right next to my house. I mean i didnt live here then but yeah. Best groove metal band ever. Just grab a Pb-2000. If you use my links to buy direct you can trade up to a higher model within a year when you have more cash. The 2000 is very capable and I really like it. Chest slamming, couch shaking bass
I'm the 300'th like!
Registering some SVS items, dropping you in the how have I heard about it. Keep up good the content.
TJ that’s awesome! I’m glad I could help. What gear you registering?
SB12-NSD, PB12-NSD, waiting for my SVS Prime Center 3 way too
TJ how you like that prime center? I was thinking of giving their speakers a trial.
It's pretty good I just got it today and listen to some music and tv. I hoping this weekend I'll have more time to check it out with some movie time. I upgrading my old Martin Logan MLT system, the SVS defiantly has more low end. Not to mention it looks beautiful as well.
hai bro can you please tell me the movie which you have played.
I have played many movies. If you check out my channel I have done a munch of demos with the sub. This movie was lord of the rings fellowship of the ring.
What movie was that
lord of the rings
Me like PB too! Fumbs sup! 🙌
I got to ask since you had both porteded and sealed did you hook both of them up at the same time since each one has a different pro and con I'm thinking the user experience was all pro
heh?
Your listening volume is preeeetty much... ;D I have Klipsch RP8000F's as mains and one Klipsch R115SW as sub (Denon AVR-1400H as amp) and if i'd listen to that volume it would be an ear blowing experience... You must have really tough ears ;D Not to even mention your dogs..
Reference or nothing for movies. If you have your setup calibrated properly to 75 db of white noise from each speaker to your listening position then it shouldnt be ear fatiguing
Im of the same opinion Reference or nothing.. even for music the track I love plays dynamically beautiful on reference
This video was hilarious. Let's see the PB is ported and almost twice the size and we are doing a comparison. Duh.
send sb 4000 back and get another pb 4000 haha
Already done.
That Home Theater Dude going dual pb 4000?
I think I would like to get the SVS subwoofer cylinder
Have you tried turning on both subs and watching a movie?
tried it. Its not for me. if I had them tuned with DSP then it probably would have sounded better.
I’ll be getting my sb4000 within this week and this monster will be in my room lol I already have a klipsch r115sw subwoofer and I’ll try running both together
Francis Orig isn’t the 115 ported?
Yup I know it’s ported...I just want to see how both will sound if played together
eeeeeeh... i didn't like the sound of the two playing together. Im sure if I sub crawled both of them and did dsp then it would sound good no matter if one was ported or not. It sounded muddy when I fired both up, but hey i'm often wrong so maybe yours will sound great. Cheers good buddy.
Is there any way u can get real music to play on TH-cam.
I tried and I got flagged for copyright. I have to either use stock music from imovie or use NCS music from youtube. If you find a better way let me know.
Damn i wish i had svs sub. I got jamo j 10 and cant imagine how good svs would sound compared to it.
I was actually waiting for some music.....
Looks like nuclear blast in that movie
Quaero um quanto fica pra montar

You should review a monolith 12 vs pb4000
yeah, i gotta get one first
I've noticed that you're using the standard mode for the PB4000 (no ports plugged).
Extended goes
down to 13hz and the sealed mode is good for music even though it goes down to 18hz, which is not bad.
Why did you cover up the music
Richard Crim 3 youtube will give me copyright infraction.
I'd like to hear the original video without the music covered up, so I can hear a comparison between the two subwoofers. Is there any other way I can view the video?
Lindo
For music wasn't so much bass
So of the 2 what one would be most balanced for movies and music . how big it is doesn't matter
As soon as the wife allowes me lol
can I send you a link so you can use whenever you're ready?
Sure

Can the neighbors hear it?
Maybe. They haven't stopped by to complain. Truley. I only push it during the day when most people are working. at night its normal listening. With great subwoofer comes great responsability
The neighbors would be happy with that super great sub sound.😊
