It's really impressive how much the term "mechanic" has been watered down and diluted into a blanket term used for literally any action performed by a player. The ceiling shot isn't a "mechanic", neither are flicks or air dribbles or even the kuxir pinch. Those are "techniques". We can define mechanics as being an effect resulted from a smart usage or abuse of the physics engine and core game mechanics (jumping, flipping, boosting, rotating, etc.). As such, things like the wavedash, half-flip and ceiling shuffle are truly "mechanics". Techniques are formed when one or several mechanics are given a form in the practical context of the actual game. Therefore, the most obvious difference between a "technique" and "mechanic" is that techniques are created with the sole purpose of giving you a better chance of winning the game, while mechanics can be perceived as just "funny stuff" your car can do without much of a practical purpose. Techniques can't exist without mechanics behind them, but mechanics can't be useful in an actual game without being shaped into a technique.
'We can define mechanics as being an effect resulted from a smart usage or abuse of the physics engine and core game mechanics'. So the Kuxir pinch doesn't fit this? Abusing the physics engine? Even the ceiling shot is probably an actual mechanic; I'm pretty sure it was originally unintentional, the 'game' is tricked into thinking that you should still have a flip.
@@daraotl5187 Regarding the kuxir pinch, I'll say I may have used a bad definition for "mechanic". I should have used something similar to what I wrote in a later part of the comment - "techniques are created with the sole purpose of giving you a better chance of winning the game, while mechanics can be perceived as just "funny stuff" your car can do without much of a practical purpose." My bad. What I meant to say originally is that the "kuxir pinch" isn't a mechanic, the "pinch" is. The "kuxir pinch" is a technique that uses the "pinch" as a base. Regarding the ceiling shot, I believe what you say isn't the case, at least as far as we talk about the "shot" part. The mechanic behind the "ceiling shot" technique is part of the "family of mechanics" (term used for the sake of simplicity, i assume you know what i'm talking about) of "flip resets". Resetting your flip off the ball, a car or keeping it by going in the air without jumping (bumps/falling) are all manipulations of the core game mechanic behind flips (namely the 4 wheel rule and the not-jumping rule). The proof that this and the ceiling "shot" itself are not the same thing is that the ceiling shot involves the ball as part of the play, meanwhile keeping your flip from the ceiling does not. As far as the "it was unintentional" goes, that's part of what makes it a mechanic too. In this game, there are intentional mechanics (like the quick aerial) and unintentional mechanics (like the wavedash) in the sense that the developer did not mean for the latter to exist, but players discovered it. The line between unintentional mechanics (or "advanced mechanics") gets blurry at times, resulting in it being treated as more of a bug/glitch, which is what happened to the now extinct "airdash" (flipping forward and then cancelling the flip as soon as possible in order to get the speed boost without actually rotating your car, this was abused pretty brutally and psyonix eventually removed it)

Mads It’s an extremely high level mechanic, so it’s possible you haven’t encountered it yet. Some pros haven’t even mastered it. It becomes necessary around the Grand Platinum ranks
On the forfeit for the first goal I've actually taken the time to study this you are absolutely right one but the second biggest reason is even if you are the same rank there is such a big difference between skill levels of players when you get matched with somebody that you can't read for whatever reason they get over frustrated. When playing with randoms I use centering, defending so everybody around me knows that I'm behind them or rotating back. Utilizing just those two communication tools helps your teammate know if you're passing or following up a shot (especially if your ball chasing from your teammates perspective) and letting your teammate know when your cycling out let your teammate know that you're done ball chasing and it's their turn lol
1 more would be what Johnnyboi_i named the 'Ah-ha defense'. It's when the opponent sends down a high ball to your net, you then try to intercept it mid-air but your touch only knocks the ball straight down. In your mind you're thinking "Ah-ha, I've stopped your passing play" but really all you have done is dropped the ball down for a closer shot on net.
Fun fact: the pap is Scottish slang for someone who backs out. Usually used for someone who backs out of a fight/challenge. That's why johnnyboi uses that name for someone who backs out of a challenge/shot
Actually mostly none of the stuff in the video is really about mechanics. For some you could argue, like backflip not working properly but most of the stuff really isn't. Good tips anyway, just no mechanics.
Unnecessary demos are so accurate, especially at silvers and gold's, where I bounce (bc I suck, and once I get out of the silver where I ballchase and semicarry I can't learn to trust my teammate at all and always double commit and drop down again) and I demoed the goalie to secure the first goal of the game and the very next play they chased me around for 10 seconds while my teammate whiffed an open net. This is the silver experience
The premature ceiling shot, quarter flip, pinch perfect.... Those I do consistently, multiple times per match. They work well in G1 doubles :D You forgot the "Ez aerial" when a person goes from 10 miles back in hopes he/she'll hit the ball mid air...
When you said a ceiling shot takes weeks to learn I just said in my head “I learned how to do a ceiling shot 2nd day on keyboard and mouse. I’m an Epic gamer”. been playing since it came out tho. The game will never get old.
My friend refers to the quarter flip as a quick way of turning a 180. You jump, air roll upside down and then air roll onto your wheels. Way faster than powersliding.
What about the “Sky high sad”? When you’re knocked by either your team or the opposing side into the air with no boost and no flip and you have to slowly fall to the ground whilst you watch helplessly as the ball sails towards your goal knowing you would’ve saved it if you could get there... Or the “Slippery Skrrr”? Where you land on the floor but one side of the car lands before the other resulting in your car to turn 90 degrees away from the action.
There is another mechanic I like to use. It's the worst. When I'm down 0-9 or worse, I tell the enemies to forfeit. It's never helped yet, but I'm optimistic.
Completely off topic, but i was watching this video with my 2 month old and she was wide awake and fussy, when she started watching the cars she passed out, had you playlist on for hours while i played and she was out like a light the whole time! So thanks for helping me hit diamond while my daughter slept lmao
“Don’t worry, I’m also gonna cover how to stop doing each of these moves” *after introducing every one* “Yeah you really just have to be better at the game”
The corner push sucks on defense too. It's infuriating when you are about to challenge your front post and your teammate, instead of rotating to back post, just cuts your rotation, takes a wild 50/50, ball goes flying around and their 2nd, who was waiting patiently, scores. BLAH!

Utilizing just those two communication tools helps your teammate know if you're passing or following up a shot (especially if your ball chasing from your teammates perspective) and letting your teammate know when your cycling out let your teammate know that you're done ball chasing and it's their turn lol
Lost a ranked match to watch another of your videos
Well worth it good job 👍
Flip resets are so satisfying. I am currently learning them right noww :)
3:58 He actually got the Extermination medal XD
That cake actually look kinda good though 1:55
If someone bumps you in game you must tryhard and type ez if you win. It's an unwritten rule.
If someone demo you and you win the game in the end, you have to type "Karma". And that's a written rule
@@pierremaggi8661 ez is more personal
@@Elegost3000 Don't forget to call the bumper a tryhard. And make sure you mention that it's just casual, and only losers bump/demo in casual.
The only time I write ez is when I win against smurfs who start to just go for dumps and demos if you start scoring.
I just think you're an idiot if you type "karma" for someone demo'ing you lol
The missed kickoff, my friends always believe that it’s on purpose
8:36 that mechanic was actually, a long time ago, called the "Chaupt Pop"
LOL. "just practice it, idk what you want from me" the main reason i watch sunless is cause hes bluntly honest about it
Yooooooooo What is the Outro Music???
Looking Back (SLCT Remix) - Gloria Tells [Beats Music]
Props to @Aeith
1 more would be what Johnnyboi_i named the 'Ah-ha defense'. It's when the opponent sends down a high ball to your net, you then try to intercept it mid-air but your touch only knocks the ball straight down. In your mind you're thinking "Ah-ha, I've stopped your passing play" but really all you have done is dropped the ball down for a closer shot on net.
I'm guilty of every one of these god dammit
thats the point of this video lol pretty much everyone is (including me)
Educational, Entertaining, with an amazing "bring it home" ending. Kudos.
no u
Fun fact: the pap is Scottish slang for someone who backs out. Usually used for someone who backs out of a fight/challenge. That's why johnnyboi uses that name for someone who backs out of a challenge/shot
k that was great but forfeiting isnt really a mechanic..
Sunless! I thought for sure I would see the CORNER WALL BANK PASS straight to the opponent. That mechanic is etched in my brain.
Outro music at 10:30?
Im tryna find it too

Props to @Aeith
you forgot "the sideflip whiff" and the "diagonal landing 2 inch fast kickoff miss"
Isnt mechanics like jumping, boosting, flipping etc.? Not «unnecessary demos, premature ceiling shots»
Actually mostly none of the stuff in the video is really about mechanics. For some you could argue, like backflip not working properly but most of the stuff really isn't. Good tips anyway, just no mechanics.
The Fantorangster no
Unnecessary demos are so accurate, especially at silvers and gold's, where I bounce (bc I suck, and once I get out of the silver where I ballchase and semicarry I can't learn to trust my teammate at all and always double commit and drop down again) and I demoed the goalie to secure the first goal of the game and the very next play they chased me around for 10 seconds while my teammate whiffed an open net. This is the silver experience
what is the outro song pls, i wont forgive myself if i dont find it ;(
Prismatic look up the lyrics
already tried, no results
Trying to find myself let me know if you find it!!!
im trying too lmao
song is: Looking Back (SLCT Remix) - Gloria Tells [Beats Music]
Another great video. Glad you started commiting to more rocket league videos💪🏾
10:07 nah man you tore down my friggin house.
your videos are always super informative in positive ways. i think i've improved 10 fold just by some of the tips you have shared. THANK YOU!
Sum up of all the RL videos : practice, practice, praaaactiiice!
When a tm8 tries to save an aerial off the ground but accidentally backflips
The premature ceiling shot, quarter flip, pinch perfect.... Those I do consistently, multiple times per match. They work well in G1 doubles :D You forgot the "Ez aerial" when a person goes from 10 miles back in hopes he/she'll hit the ball mid air...
Nothing worse than doing a feels-bad-flip on the replay cam...
What a save!
What a save!
What a save!
Number 9 hits different
You are just a genius, after you said quarter flip i just laughed and related on a whole other level lmao
The pre-mature ceiling shot helps you get off the ceiling faster, you still have you flip reset when all of you wheels land on the ceiling..
When you said a ceiling shot takes weeks to learn I just said in my head “I learned how to do a ceiling shot 2nd day on keyboard and mouse. I’m an Epic gamer”. been playing since it came out tho. The game will never get old.
"the air flick is terrible"
Turbopolsa at the rlcs 8 finals: hold my beer
My friend refers to the quarter flip as a quick way of turning a 180. You jump, air roll upside down and then air roll onto your wheels. Way faster than powersliding.
I remember those days when i was learning all those mechanics, i thought it was impossible, but now, it's so simple. Definitely worth it
Man this is old but when he said some players like to go for demo's for revenge just explained the reasoning behind 75% of my demos
I have mastered every single one of these! I think I'm ready to go pro now
Dont go for unnecessary demos
Woody: Am I a joke to you!!!
Me: a dumb gold who can’t do anything on this list
Me:”ez to not do”
5:38 cracked me up! this is the perfect time to slam my nose into the wall
There is another mechanic I like to use. It's the worst. When I'm down 0-9 or worse, I tell the enemies to forfeit. It's never helped yet, but I'm optimistic.
Getting revenge on a demo is not because of anger, but because of pride
Completely off topic, but i was watching this video with my 2 month old and she was wide awake and fussy, when she started watching the cars she passed out, had you playlist on for hours while i played and she was out like a light the whole time! So thanks for helping me hit diamond while my daughter slept lmao
I can now say that I can know a mechanic “the first goal forfeit!”
“Don’t worry, I’m also gonna cover how to stop doing each of these moves”
*after introducing every one*
“Yeah you really just have to be better at the game”
The corner push sucks on defense too. It's infuriating when you are about to challenge your front post and your teammate, instead of rotating to back post, just cuts your rotation, takes a wild 50/50, ball goes flying around and their 2nd, who was waiting patiently, scores. BLAH!
I am so glad to hear pros did the back flip as well
