Neither one of this two drummers is copying anything from anybody for they are just continuing with the legacy, they both have their own technique and even if the apply elements from drummers before them all they are doing is passing on what they have learned from others and on their own, decades from now other drummers are going to be playing like this guys and using their technique so the legacy will continue moving forward.
Two master drummers well versed in the religious and secular rhythms of our Afro-Caribbean roots demonstrating a conversation between the drums...masacote,beautiful interplay that a lot of contemporary drummers have not participated or experienced and was an integral element of drumming in our African diaspora culture.....el bembe and la rumba.All praise to our gurus for these priceless posts and to El patron,senor Cohen. Been listening to conga players for decades, so I kinda have a basic understanding of it. I know these two are masters, with Gio being considered the goat, but I have to be honest, this was not music to my ears. It sounded very disorganized.
