True meaning of the word Maestros reminds me of my childhood and the old school Katz in the park playing and at the same time watching us playing stick ball or softball against different blocks nothing but Respect ✊ I’m 61 yrs old and I will never forget the old school Respecto Na ma also thanks U/tube to be able to see Great 👍 master from the west coast Robert ct from Bklyn of course que viva mis Hermanos Latinos palante
Neither one of this two drummers is copying anything from anybody for they are just continuing with the legacy, they both have their own technique and even if the apply elements from drummers before them all they are doing is passing on what they have learned from others and on their own, decades from now other drummers are going to be playing like this guys and using their technique so the legacy will continue moving forward.
Two master drummers well versed in the religious and secular rhythms of our Afro-Caribbean roots demonstrating a conversation between the drums...masacote,beautiful interplay that a lot of contemporary drummers have not participated or experienced and was an integral element of drumming in our African diaspora culture.....el bembe and la rumba. All praise to our gurus for these priceless posts and to El patron, senor Cohen. One love.
Happyness of play can see it in both faces, why some people have to talk bad if giovanni let his finger nails like tata guines Master, obvious he was his student and give continuosly to his legacy, but say the giovanni's thing is just copy.. That's in my town somebody call... "Envidia".. Big up!! 4 guines, giovanni n' santos, we all r brothers of drummers circle, how beauty is that.
That's the way it should be two pros just playing no pissing contest on who's faster or Fancier that's why Giovanni is who is and Señor santos is who is that's what makes them the best at what they do so young players and old just kick it and Pay attention to Fundamentals and it sounds good I think I'm going to rewind this and play along with it rt on fellow Percussionist Peace and ♥God bless
buenos excelentes musicos en el caso de gio formado en cuba con changuito (jose luis quintana)y la linea sonora de tata guines sin dudas un boricua con alma cubana felicidades por haber alcanzado la maestria de este instrumento salud!!
this I truly enjoyed, growing up this was the way we get down rumbones with a single conga or tumbadora.now a days you seethe show offs with multiple congas, that's cool but not my cup of tea..
Giovanni creo que no te quieres partir las uñas, sin el borde del cuero donde suena de verdad el cuero, papa mas rollo que pelicula , eras yo te repico 10 sonidos en una criolla, sola. de Cuba Manopiedra
Been listening to conga players for decades, so I kinda have a basic understanding of it. I know these two are masters, with Gio being considered the goat, but I have to be honest, this was not music to my ears. It sounded very disorganized.
So old fashion and right out there. Two masters blending in rhythm and creativity. A super duet.

Giovanni Hidalgo was my favorite I always copy his moves because he's my legend of Latin percussion
Giovanni siempre disfruta tocar asi sea un único tambor. Habla a través de sus manos con la alegría que su rostro demuestra

What is this?
Does anyone know why it would be beneficial to have long finger nails while playing conga?
Don't matter, depends what you want to do with the nails, but that's not where the secret is.
He uses his nails with great effect.
Fifty-fifty
