  • Its been a long time coming! The ROAM 2.0 build has been a long and time consuming process, over the past couple months and everyone including myself has been dying to get back out on the trail and put this new vehicle to the test! Now It couldnt have been a better day out than being joined by the Onca Offroad crew, with their Jeep Wrangler on 40" Cooper STT PRO's and their Landcruiser 79 Series on 37" Coopers, a good friend of theirs, Johan brought is Fj45 Shorty running 33" Mud Terrains. All in all we had a great variety of different capability vehicles and a full day of exploring Moegatle 4x4. Needless to say, the winches came out a couple times, and Len & Lee actually ended up recovering a stranded truck from the riverbed. I got to really learn how my vehicle performs offroad on some seriously tough stuff, all in preperation for the journey's ahead!

The hilux did well on a 4x4 track. It can do the job but head out and do a 7500km round trip with the big rigs they wont be happy. You have build a real weapon and it will perform in 99% of terrain southern Africa has to offer. Well done. Its a Beast

Luxy? Sexy Luxy... Ya, I can see that... We've already seen her stripped down to her skivvies... Well you did say this was Gear Porn... :P
The Jeep Wrangler reminded me of the Rubicon Trail in the USA. Jeep use to have a version of the Wrangler called the Wrangler Rubicon. It was supposed to be fitted with the appropriate gear to tackle the Trail. I do think the Rubicon was used on other Jeep products as well. It was a marketing tool for those 4x4 gearheads who wanted something tough and rugged from the showroom floor without having to buy additional aftermarket equipment. From what I remember, Jeep did have those 4x4s run the Trail before they were given the "Rubicon" badging.
    But, I digress...

@@RoamOverlanding please don’t misunderstand me I actually really enjoy you in particular, love your style of content creation and the content you cover. I just feel that it is reaching into the “elitist “ side of an already expensive exercise. Many of us are not able to ever do te type if rebuild you have done. We live our own vehicle and just servicing and maintenance done with our own money is very difficult. Your recommendations are done with sponsors money. Gosh, i am really digging a hole for myself, as all I sound is petulant. Social media takes away from human interaction. Its not only on your show. A small example is how many advocate the australian space saver pots. They are damn expensive and difficult to obtain. I will keep watching because I really enjoy your spirit and joy at being out there. Just be mindful that many if us barely manage to replace tyres let alone by Coopers. We cannot afford all the fancy brake systems and upgraded shocks. Rant over. After all I am just one person in a sea of others. I will still continue to follow you and watch your adventures.
