CB500X - Solo Norway trip Part 8 - Short ride to Oslo to 45 Euro per night camp site

- This is Part 8 of my trip continuing the journey riding from Greakner to Oslo to pitch my tent in a ridiculously expensive camp site ~ 45 Euros, 40 GBP per NIGHT!! I had to venture into the city to find a camping electric adapter. All the camp sites I'd encountered in my trip last year and to-date used a 3 pin, but not here... I needed a 2 pin. Much dashing around and at the 4th shop I managed to get one. Some of the other sites in Norway used the 3 pin... so better take both if you plan on electric hook-up in Norway.
The whole journey took me through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and into Norway right the way up to Nordkapp, the furthest point you can travel by motorcycle or car in mainland Europe and then back through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France over a 7 week period late May - mid July 2023
I am back in the UK now, but please do add your comments and I'll get back to you.
Hoping you can "Like" the video, as this does help the channel.
All my best wishes, thanks again for watching

Nice! I just happened to come in from the garage at 1AM and noticed your video. I wait for your videos and really enjoy them! About a month ago my wife and kids (all grown men now) surprised me with a pre-retirement gift of a 2022 Honda CB500X. I was thrilled beyond description! Outfitting it now for some adventures next spring, when the snow melts and there is no alarm clock to wake me to go to work!
How fantastic!! Have fun when the snow melts and even more without the morning alarm!
Nick
Really enjoying these films, thanks for sharing them with us! 😀👍 It seems, according to your last refuel, the bike is averaging 89 mpg approx and fuel is slightly cheaper there than here in North Yorks! A cheap way to travel 👏😀👍🏍
Lovely smooth empty roads !
👍👍 many thanks
Nick
Loved it Nick and really enjoy seeing you pop up on TH-cam. That said. As soon as it becomes a burden and non enjoyable. Lock the memories in your head. Appreciate everything you do dear sir.
Great advice, many thanks. One of the plusses of the edit process is reliving it all, most of which never makes it to TH-cam but special to me nonetheless
Nick
you've just saved me the headach of not having power, i'll scroll amazon for a power adapter. love the videos.
Glad I could help, there were a mix of sockets so I needed both
Nick
Going trough rought times, seing your videos make me wanna search again for something new around the globe. I am really thankfull to you Nick even not knowing you.
Many thanks Paulo, I am sorry to hear you are going through rough times at the moment and I am humbled to think that my videos can provide help in some small way. Good luck with your search, it is a big wide world out there, I truly hope you find what you are looking for.

Oslo is a beautiful city at that time of the year. Only speaking for myself, but I’m enjoying the vicarious travel of places I’ll never get to on a motorcycle, so keep up the great videos Nick. Looking forward to seeing the next one. Cheers, Jim
Hey Jim, many thanks, I enjoyed my short time in Oslo... and... never say never 🏍😉
Nick
Nice👍👍 Driving trough my Home areas. Embarassed about Norwegian prices. Understand your point at this👍👍
Many thanks for the comment, it is a beautiful country and yes, the prices are high, but I enjoyed every minute
Nick

However long it took, it was worth it! Another very enjoyable video of your wonderful trip, thank you for making it and sharing it. I went to Oslo once for one night with business and I still remember being shocked at how expensive everything was. Luckily work were paying all my expenses. I had very little time to look round, but liked what I saw. I'd love to go back, maybe one day I will follow in your footsteps, although so far I'd choose your South of England route over this one - less motorways!
Many thanks Alan. Oslo is definitely worth a longer visit, expensing it would make it even more attractive 😉 I do make it off the motorways... eventually!
Nick
It is not so expensive if you make your own food and it is much cheap food in the grocery stores too so it "can" be pretty cheap her in Norway if you look and no need to camp on a camp sites either maybe now and then for some washing of clothes and take a shower now and then or it is only the gasoline prises who are extremely expensive but the Honda almost not use any fuels so it is great!
Regards from Oslo, Norway.
@@eddale5557 Thank you, your comments are very helpful.
Nice. Thanks Nick
Many thanks!
Nick
Another inspiring episode ty. Just popping onto Amazon to buy a map before i go anywhere!!
🤣 Many thanks
Nick
You really should have visited Halden and the Fortress there...
Maybe a reason to return. Thanks for thr the information!
Nick
Another great episode Nick. Oslo looks like a beautiful city.
Many thanks and yes, I enjoyed Oslo
Nick
Never doubt doing this, if that was going through your thoughts, it is,for me at least, living vicariously and I thank you for it!
Many thanks for the encouragement, I hope you enjoy the trip from your sofa!
Nick
Big skys, enjoy.... Nick plenty of time for editing.. enjoy the great weather... seen any Aurora yet...
whats the cost of fuel up there at the mo....
Never got dark enough, weird seeing the sun at midnight though. Fuel got more expensive the further north ( remote?) I got but was on par with UK at the time, but did fluctuate.
Many thanks for the comment and yes, editing post the trip.
Nick
Another great video Nick. Really enjoying them so Thankyou. What make are the knuckle guards you use?(not in description)
Thanks for the comment and no problem ref the question, they are Barkbusters, metal frame and plastic hand guards. They've saved snapping the levers when the bike fell at standstill.
I've got a couple of videos that you might find useful, one is "Does bulk matter" about gear I carry, but I'm experienced taking a pillion so extra weight doesn't matter to me, but could impact you a bit, some of the comment really add more detail. Also "CB500X 2022 - Fully prepped and ready to go for big trip" but Ive changed tyres and pannier racks since then. May still be worth a look though.

@@bikingtravels many thanks Nick! I’ll be sure to take a look. Total novice so need all the advice I can get but don’t want to waste money on kit that’s not good/right. Am also considering the engine guards/frame bars, could save a fortune and guess as a newby a topple may not be out of the question. Damn this mid life crisis malarkey ! 😂
I am very much enjoying your adventures and no doubt it a real pain to produce videos. I am working my way through your trip from last year and am on episode 29 (I think) so thank you for sharing with us. I record just about all my rides, 800Gb from my trip to Switzerland this year and have only shared a very small fraction of the output. In regards the purpose of the video is simple for me, the main reason is to capture memories and a distant second is to share some of it on YT.
Top marks for perseverance!!!!! Many thanks sticking with me, and yes, I captured parts of my trip and shared on TH-cam, rather than the other way round... not sure that makes sense but...
Nick
I must confess, I find myself harboring a profound sense of envy for your upcoming expedition, and I am fully aware it promises to be nothing short of splendid. It is worth noting that even the most unassuming of terrains possess their own unique allure.
Five hours does not appear to be an overly extensive duration, as it takes me an equivalent span to fashion a video of similar length. If you were to consider employing Premiere Pro, you might discover that synchronizing audio channels can be accomplished with remarkable ease, requiring but a few simple clicks. I dare say, it may pose a less formidable challenge.
Your recent video template has indeed caught my eye; it exudes a certain elegance. However, if it requires a full hour of your time to produce, might I suggest refraining from excessive embellishment?
Lajos
Hi Lajos, as always many thanks for your comment and suggestions. I need to have a look at Premier Pro as the initial learning curve and overhead may well be outweighed by longer term benefits.
Thanks again
Nick
Thanks Nick, enjoyed that -- a well-made travelogue. The obvious answer to reduce the editing work is just to use one camera. An action camera on a flexible gooseneck mount with jaws at one end might be the answer? You can clip it anywhere, hold it and wave it about to your heart's content; it would give a very different feel to your videso too. You've obviously spent big on your camera gear (e.g. Insta360) but sometimes less is more in my opinion, for what that's worth. Looking forward to the rest of your journey.
Many thanks. Yep, my first series was primarily one camera, still found cutting out the waffle a pain, but now... oh dear.. too late, but next trip...
Nick
Being a complete numpty about all things video, how (sorry were) does the pole with the camera on go? How can it be behind you and you know which way it’s pointing? Cannot get to grips with this type of technology.
Technology is advancing sooo quickly. The Insta360 x3 has 2 convex lenses which the software stitches together to give an all round, up and down view with a small stitch line due to the thickness of the camera. It allows me to choose the shot, back forward left right up down spinning etc. The shot where I am.walking I have the 3ft pole extended with camera on top and lean it forward to get me walking towards it and lean it back over my shoulder to get me walking.from behind. For the most part, the stick is invisible as it sits between the 2 lenses, you can still see the shadow though 😁
Hope my waffly attempt at an explanation answers your question.
Nick
