This is not my favorite Star Wars movie, but my favorite Star Wars memory comes from seeing this movie. I will never forget the feeling of sitting in the theatre. And the opening shot of the Star Destroyer going into the shadow of the planet. I immediately felt like we were back. After a decade+ of first loving, then being in denial about, then finally accepting the prequels were bad. That first shot and the ensuing opening scenes filled me with new hope. The woman I went with said she could feel my excitement and relief sitting next to me. I understand some of the issues people have with TFA. But to me this was the best possible way to bring us back to this universe. I will never forget the feeling I had leading up to, during and walking out of this theatre.
The first time we see Kylo without his helmet should have been his confrontation with Han Solo. "What do you think you'll see when I do?" "The face of my Son."
That’s a good idea! I do like how it is though, I always thought Kylo taking off his helmet was a mistake of arrogance by his character cause it reveals to Rey that he’s just a young person like her.
Philip Dunphy true. In an interview JJ did say they thought a lot about that reveal. IIRC he mentioned how he liked how the mask makes people assume he is deformed in some way, and then when he takes it off he looks like a “prince.”
The whole rebel- Resistance thing does make sense when you think about it. In the OT the Empire was in power, thus they were rebels. in TFA the New Republic is in power, and the First Order is occupying Systems. Leia is running a Resistance in First Order Space.
She also does it because the New Republic is blind & slow to act against the First Order. They are a Resistance because they are not sanctioned by the Republic & poaches soldiers from the New Republic like Poe & his squadron.

I know this is old but y'all ask about how starkiller base is cut into the planet. I'm sure by now atleast some of you have played Fallen Order, in that there's a part where Cal escapes Illum and finds out the empire has begun a mass excavation, well at some point after that you get an exterior shot of the planet and it's very clearly the beginnings of starkiller base. J:FO takes place about 5 years after episode 3, so that means that Palpatine must have been working on building starkiller base since he came into power. This is important because Illum is a jedi sacred planet and is where Yoda would take younglings to get kyber crystals, so it's kind of a big deal it's gone. Also I'm fairly sure the first starkiller shot absolutely destroyed Coruscant because it was the political center of the galaxy and the whole point of that shot was to take out the republic. Kill the past I guess...

I disagree with Nick’s thought that Leia should have went to Luke. It’s important that it’s Rey. Rey is hope, just like Luke once was. She is the next generation.
Rey knows the Millennium Falcon because Simon Pegg was her and the Falcon’s “owner”. Look at the vision with the lightsaber. Her parents left her to SP alien.

So she and the few people who do believe her form the Resistance to resist the growing threat of the First Order.
Coming back to TFA is such a gut-wrenching thing because the first 30 or so minutes of the film (up until the rathtar scene), is so good and so memorable, and then it seemingly falls off the cliff for me with the poor/convenient storytelling elements, and then things continue to get worse IMO in TLJ and TROS. In regards to the 'how are they supposed to get through the shields of Starkiller Base?' all they had to do was mention that the shields had to be lowered when the base is siphoning the energy from the star to charge the weapon, and that fixes that issue. There are so many points in TFA that one additional line of dialogue would have fixed the flaws/in-universe logic issues, and it's so frustrating.
wouldn't the Starkiller base essentially consuming a star be a death sentence for every living thing in that solar system? it's not as fancy or show-offy as a big red laser but i'm pretty sure it would be just as effective...

I mean just look at the list the guys have right now second acts of trilogies make up both the top and bottom places with empire and clones respectfully.
In all 9 saga films, a huge Galactic Empire, a myriad of technologies and creative sci-fi ideas and the ONLY doomsday weapon ANYONE can come up with is the Death Star!?! The average asshole can come up with a handful of doomsday weapons the First Order could use just thinking about it for fun. I always liked the idea of a weapon that destroys all living biological life on a planet but keeps the technology and resources intact for conquering. They just really needed to get away from giant beams of energy that destroy planets, ships, etc. Even TLJ has “death star tech”! Enough already! lol
I love the scene when TR8R confronts Finn, because he throws down all his shit like he was training for that day and his time has come. It’s just cool.
The final scene should have been R2D2 going to Luke, as Luke turns around he can play a message from Leia. As the message ends he shoots the lightsaber out like in ROTJ, Luke does a flip and catches. Luke would have left straight away. Don't send some random girl.
Yes, and no. I can barely remember if anything from Episode 1 was shot at a real outside location. But the age of movies does make a difference, and the prequels taught filmmakers how to use CGI more effectively. Don't go full CGI, but blend it. Jar Jar Binks became Davey Jones who then became Thanos.
I cannot agree with this being above RoTJ. Everything Nick said is on point. I will add in that while Awakens is fantastic - it’s a very shallow experience, because it’s almost funny how similar it is from A New Hope from an overall standpoint. While I was watching it for the first time; I was able to tell, and it interrupts the movie for me.
The "Mary Sue" argument is answered with the Broom Kid in TLJ, kids with the force start to mess with it even from a young age. The Jedi order isn't around to take young kids and train them anymore.
As much as TFA and TLJ have beautiful shots, the shots Rogue One had of the death star and the space battles are not only some of the most beautiful but also the most Star Wars-like shots. The choice of lighting they did in space with those original trilogy ships is breath taking, same with that dewy cold open with Krennic and his personal Guard.
Gareth Edwards is really good at highlighting the scale of things in the screen. It was his best accomplishment in Godzilla and it really shines when seeing the Death Star, or when the heroes are confronted with AT-ATs

They just really needed to get away from giant beams of energy that destroy planets, ships, etc. Even TLJ has “death star tech”! Enough already! lol
To me, TFA is the first GREAT star wars film.
You know, I'd be willing to bet that Chewie probably changed Kylo Ren's diapers as a baby, and that's why he shot him in the thigh.
I love the scene when TR8R confronts Finn, because he throws down all his shit like he was training for that day and his time has come. It’s just cool.
I thought R2 was in low power mode because he was looking for the missing part of the map?
Nick: Prequels - To much politics!
Nick: TFA - I don't understand the Republic/Resistance, why don't they explain the politics.
The final scene should have been R2D2 going to Luke, as Luke turns around he can play a message from Leia. As the message ends he shoots the lightsaber out like in ROTJ, Luke does a flip and catches. Luke would have left straight away. Don't send some random girl.
I'm not gonna lie, I learn a lot about writing a film from Nick. He has a lot of little tidbits that are really smart.
Plott owned the ship and Rey works for him doing odd jobs and learned how to pilot it. That why he screams at them as they left away
Watto what have you done to Kevin?!?! He was the chosen one!
Tim looking fresh as hell with those Chicago aj1s lol
The ranking was not what I expected at all. Good movie but it's far behind everything the original trilogy did imo.
Rouge One, 4, 8, 5, 7, 6, 3, 1, 2, Solo
There's prequel level amount of CGI in this movie, we just notice it more with the others because of the time they were made
Yes, and no. I can barely remember if anything from Episode 1 was shot at a real outside location. But the age of movies does make a difference, and the prequels taught filmmakers how to use CGI more effectively. Don't go full CGI, but blend it. Jar Jar Binks became Davey Jones who then became Thanos.
@@LoganFerguson naboo and tattoine was shot on location which was a significant part of the movie
Can someone just make a greg as watto compilation
Your show is very appropriately named. Also your ads are too long and you come across as less than sincere whilst gushing about products.

Do it like you're dry heaving, but in one long breath. Don't hurt your throat, but you gotta really push through it.
Blluuuuuugghhheeeeggghhj
The best scene is the movie is the light Saber fight in the forest at the end for sure.
Who does the intro music for these videos?
So far for me:
1. Empire
2. Awakens
3.Return
4. Revenge
4. Hope
6. Phantom
7. Clones
I think I am in love with nick scarpino
The "Mary Sue" argument is answered with the Broom Kid in TLJ, kids with the force start to mess with it even from a young age. The Jedi order isn't around to take young kids and train them anymore.
"How does she know to do all that?"
Because she's been a slave since childhood, having to scrap by and fight for everything in her life.
You need to looking for CinemaVariety if you'd like to watch cinema movies this year. Worth that price
Y’all should do yourself a favor and rank all of the Quentin Tarantino movies!
talking about Rey not giving up BB-8 - that's a HUFFLEPUFF thing to do!
Luke👏🏽Didn’t👏🏽Make👏🏽The map👏🏽To👏🏽Himself👏🏽
As much as TFA and TLJ have beautiful shots, the shots Rogue One had of the death star and the space battles are not only some of the most beautiful but also the most Star Wars-like shots. The choice of lighting they did in space with those original trilogy ships is breath taking, same with that dewy cold open with Krennic and his personal Guard.
Eric Drummond definitely agree!
Gareth Edwards is really good at highlighting the scale of things in the screen.
It was his best accomplishment in Godzilla and it really shines when seeing the Death Star, or when the heroes are confronted with AT-ATs
