    I've been running amsoil saber mixed at 100 to 1 for years and I absolutely love it and trying to explain it to people they think I'm crazy because they are not open minded enough to learn the quality oil doesn't need to be mixed so rich. And good job with your jetting knowledge the leaner your oil to gas ratio is the richer your fuel to air is going to be.

    With my fully ported and polished cr500, cut head, on Sunoco Standard (110 octane), I run 32:1 AmsOil Interceptor. Cylinder and piston are absolutely spotless.

      Why not run dominator? (Genouinly curious)

    • @TheCeki1982
      @TheCeki1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BubbaX - Interceptor is better for the power-valve. While the Dominator is a pure race oil and not ideal for pre-mix.
      Also the Saber is rather made for small engines.

    We run 50:1 and we aren't afraid to experiment with any 2T oil. We have used several gallons of Valvolines Outboard oil(it's pretty cheap), Lucas, Maxima, Honda, Klotz, Husqvarna and Stihl. My family makes a living off of their chainsaws, mixed at 50:1 and there is no telling, at the consumer level, if one oil is better than the other. We read our spark plugs to confirm our jetting, and pop the pipe off to visually inspect the piston and bore from time to time. Your jetting is far more important for the longevity of your moving parts than which type or brand of oil you use, IMHO.

    That is insanely lean no matter how good the oil is!
    Of course it will run good and crisp but it most definetly will be wearing out main bearings, cylinder coatings, piston, crank seals , wrist pins, needle bearings, etc.... Oil is the cheapest thing to make your engine last, use good oil and let it smoke a bit. 32:1-40:1 is the max I would go and thats with spot on jetting!

    128 divided by the ratio (40, 50, etc) gives you the number of ounces of oil you need. 128 is the number of ounces in a gallon. Example: 128/40 = 3.2 ounces of oil. 128/60 = 2.13 ounces.

    I have stuck to racing castor oil (various brands) for over 47 yrs. Least amount of wear and most power. Even the 4-point ball tests (wear) and dyno testing prove this too.... 36:1 is the ratio I generally use but yes if want the LEAST amount of wear castor oil is absolutely the best. The newer racing castors are "degummed" making it even better. Maxima puts out the 927 which is a castor blend. I would recommend that too. Keep in mind if you start "thinning" out your oil too much you lose "ring seal" and power. The owner of Maxima had a real good article on "ring seal" and oil with dyno results at various ratios and found out people were diluting their oil ratios too much today. 40:1 seem to produce the best dyno results with the least wear.

    • @bornforfreetaxtothedeath..7542
      @bornforfreetaxtothedeath..7542 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do agree with your comments about 40:1 ratio. 👍
      With 50:1 u still get a good top end lubrication, piston and ring seal but, bottom crankshaft, and crankshaft bearings will not have enough lubrication, that way crankshaft will start to overheat, and bearings running dry will wear out really quickly...
      My thinking is why oil companies "advice" to run 50:1 ratio, simply because lower emissions....
      I personally only use JESO FD rated oils, and only 40:1 ratio.
      What is cheaper, a dash off 2T engine oil, or a full engine rebuild???

    I just run good old yamalube in my YZ 125 at 32:1 seeing as these small bore two strokes are just single ring and spend generally more time in the higher rpms. When I upgrade to a big bore bike I'll run a little richer (on gas) and switch to a synthetic.

    Years ago I was running Bel-Ray MC1+ @ 50:1 and though it worked o.k. in my bigger bikes, the 100's and 125's were seizing up on a regular basis. While @ Wetzel Suzuki/Husqvana up in northern Ohio during a Christmas vacation, the shop's owner told me about Maxima 927 Castor (the degummed stuff), saying all the factory teams were using it @ 32:1. I bought some and tried it. Later I started calling (Pro Circuit, FMF's Donnie Emler, D&G Racing, Bill;s Pipes, Harry Klemm @ Klemm Research and others) and found out that Mr. Wetzel was right on the money, they were all using it @ 32:1. I tune my 2 strokes right to the edge of insanity and have had ZERO failures of any kind with any of them since! Coincidentally, it's maker is Dick Lechien, father of ex-Kawasaki SX/MX factory racer Ronnie Lechien! : )'

    Hi there. It’s funny how everyone hating on this ratio is too scared to actually use it( so who cares about their opinion) I’ve been using it in my TM 300 en 2016 if great results! Just wondering what you did to your jetting to dial it in a bit better, I don’t really want to drop my pilot down anymore and was thinking of leaning it out a touch with the clip and air screw. It’s definitely running a tad richer now with less oil.

Which is crazy for my 97' RM250, but I was going off manufacture spec, but they're assuming i'm riding flat out on a motocross track so i'll be trying a 80:1 mix next time since I generally trail ride and don't need to worry about that extra cylinder lubrication.

    There are three main types of oil. Mineral, comes from crude oil, Castor comes from soy beans, Ester is vegetable base. One Dyno test on motocross bikes showed that the most horsepower is produced at 16:1 ratio. Hardly anyone can keep the motor screaming consistently to have the exhaust temperatures high enough to burn the excess oil and run that ratio. Oil ratio is almost directly proportional with RPM. There are some cart engines that run 5:1 ratio, but consistently run at 20,000 rpms and they don't have piston rings. The oil just flashes through the motor at that rpm so you need more. Large bore trail bikes and more so, trials bikes, are spending a lot of time at low RPM's so lean ratios make sense. The oil sits in the engine longer before it's burnt. Lawn equipment and chain saws are ported to run at a fairly low rpm even at full throttle. 60:1 or leaner ratios are possible. Bean oil has been shown to offer the best protection (Blendzall, 927, Castrol and Klotz Benol to name a few). But it still tends to leave more residue than other oils. Ester oils have been shown to run the cleanest and it's a polar molecule so it sticks to the metal like a refrigerator magnet. When Maxima came out with their K2 ester, they did extensive testing to make sure it lubricated at least as well at 927 and it wasn't easy to do. All of the modern POA (polyalphaolefin) synthetic oils like Amsoil, Honda HP2, which are a mineral base, lubricate real well and run clean. I run my 125 vintage motocross bikes at 20:1 with Blendzall or 927 and never have had a problem. I ride it like the throttle is duck-taped wide open. I run my 300 off-road bike at 40:1 with Amsoil interceptor. I could go leaner like 50:1 but I like the idea of more protection if the plug looks clean. No science there. I had an 05 YZ 250 that I ran for 10 years, at least 50 times a year, with Amsoil Interceptor and never had to change a piston or ring, every time I took it apart to change, it specked out fine, it was my mission to kill that motor and I couldn't. Experience has taught me that Amsoil Dominator doesn't like to be run 32:1 in Yamaha's or Honda's, they will start to run like the plug is fouling. Real weird symptoms. The oil doesn't burn out as easy as others and accumulates, and their jetting is real sensitive to it. I hope that helps someone choose their oil and ratios with more insight.

    I have been interested in trying AmsOil as of late and loved the video! The only question I have is regarding the Saber oils applications. On their website it suggests that the Saber Oil is best for hand held 2-stroke devices but not limited to those, and the Interceptor oil is best for 2-stroke motorcycles, jetskis, snowmobiles etc. Did you talk with anyone at amsoil prior to switching to the saber oil or have any feedback explaining that it was acceptable for motorcycle use? Thanks for all of your great videos and keep them coming!

      @@DirtBikeChannel But how many hrs are you putting on bikes? A bottom end, properly lubed can last for 500-1000 miles depending on the user. A bottom end not properly lubed could last 250-500m. Longer than you keep your bikes. So everything might seem great. but what about those other 500 miles? that would be my concern.

    I'm curious why you are running Saber lawn & garden oil instead of Dominator or Interceptor like Amsoil recommends? The TH-cam algorithm seems to be trying to convince me to start using Saber as I keep getting videos recommending it. Aside from it being blue which I definitely prefer for pre-mix, it seems like the other two types would be better?

    In my RM250 I use Exol Optima Racing 2-stroke @ 40:1. It costs ~£25 for 5 litres. I've been using it all year. No spooging, has an innocuous smell and is the cheapest full-syn Jaso FD oil I can find. Used to use Silkolene but that was ~£12/L

      +sebastian clausen Mine says 32:1. I use 40:1 because I don't run mine flat out all the time (gncc/enduro/HnH)and tweaked the jets to suit (39pilot). It'll load up and spooge easier when I putt around the woods @32:1. Saying that, I do squirm when i'm flat out in 5th for long stretches and back off a touch when I feel sympathetic.

    Did you ever hear something about2 Stroke oil for watercooled engines? Like Outboarder for boats. A guy i know told me, that he uses this Special oil, because it fully burns together with the gasoline and has a better lubrication at low temperatures. I don't know what to think about this, but it seems to be a real Thing. He uses his for may years now.

    By running less oil you might have less power because you lose ring seal probabilities. Ask a engine builder I was informed that once. I like to run the castor oil 927 because it smells so darn good, I even run it in my weed wacker.

      +Dirt Bike Channel hey love your channel you seem like a super nice guy I love watching you talk about riding and all that goes into it. but at 3:00 if your running a thicker ratio like running 32:1 vs running 60:1 the more oil won't make it leaner it'll only make it smoke more and foul More plugs

    • @Fireballsocal
      @Fireballsocal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because there is more oil in the gasoline mixture, there is less gasoline. If there is less gasoline mixing with the same amount of air in the carburator, your air/fuel mix is leaned out. A buddy toasted a bearing on a fairly new 99 KX250 before we learned that lesson. The oil part of the mix doesn't figure in to the air/fuel ratio. Remember he is talking about two different ratios. Oil/Fuel for mixing and air/fuel inside the carburetor.

    always start with your altitude then see what type of rider you are more oil mix for heavy handed drivers and less oil mix for cruising around if you mix to much oil and drive slow you will gunk your plug not enough oil will result in a blown piston 40 to 1 is average .

    You are the second person on TH-cam, both trail riding 300 KTMs, that run Amsoil Saber. I am curious as to why run Saber vs Dominator? Saber is a small engine specific oil vs Dominator which is atv/dirtbike specific. I noticed a lot of comments about different ratios for different bikes but I think the ratio is more dependent on the oil manufacturers recommendation. Different oils have different characteristics which will effect what ratio is required. Type of riding will make difference also.
