RAM 1500/2500 Unlocking Off-road Performance | Turning Off ESC System

  • Today I talk about how to increase you RAM 1500 and RAM 2500's Off-road performance and capability. Turning off your ESC system will help your truck off road when in 4wd drive. it is the easiest and fastest way to increase off road performance or help you get unstuck in snow and mud and takes only a couple seconds! I show you exactly how to do it.

    I figured I would show everyone how to turn off your ESC system in these new fifth generation RAM 1500 and Ram 2500 trucks! I made a video about my old truck and everyone seemed to like it. Turning off your ESC system is very similar to the old generation but involves a couple extra steps. your truck has to be in 4wd lock or 4x4 high and you need to be in park with your foot on the brake. hold the traction control button for 5 seconds and you should hear a ding letting you know you have turned off the ESC system.
    I wanted to also touch on when to actually use the ESC system because the system can come in handy when you are actually on-road. So I showed a few clips of my snowy drive to work in my RAM 2500 Power Wagon and in these condition I like having all the electronic aids on. it only takes a slip second to lose control and although the ESC system is not great off-road it certainly helps keep you on the road. the truck can apply brake pressure to certain wheels and help stop the vehicle from spinning or losing control. so there is a good reason why these trucks have them.
    now if you are actually going off-road. I highly recommend turn the ESC and traction control off. they will just be a hinder and get in the way of what you are trying to do. they will cut power to your wheels when you need power and it's just better off-road when you have full control of your wheels.
    the other big thing of the ram 1500 is if you have 4wd auto then you have an electronically control transfer case and the truck WILL cut power to your front driveshaft when all wheels are spinning and your ESC system is on. the truck thinks that you are in a spin out condition and as a result with disengage momentarily the front driveline. Not what you want if your truck is stuck or you need power to get over an obstacle!
    I hope you guys enjoyed the video and I hope everyone enjoyed me playing around in the snow with my power wagon!

      That would be ideal! Also want to look into being able to lock up the diff independently and also in 4 hi. Because it sucks having to be in 4 low to both diffs locked. In snow you want tire speed lol

    Exactly right about this. I turn my Anti Slip Traction control alllll the time ESC. It just seems to allow more power transfer to the wheels. Whenever the ESC is ON and or engaged its fine, I mean there's no problem with it. But I don't know exactly how to put it into words. So if anyone watches this video and or reads this comment and you're still questioning it, just try it. Try disengaging the ESC, usually there is a little button right around the tow control. Just push it once on or off, OFF in this case and see the difference. I find when the ESC is ON and engaged say if I'm going around a corner and I start to slide on ice for example. The ESC will lock up the wheels and only allow for wheel spin every now and then. That's now always the most helpful. But then again, sometimes it is MORE helpful lol. So its a interesting feature turning ESC off its something anyone who owns a RAM or any truck should familiarize themselves with. Cool feature.

    I've got a 23 ram 3500 4x4 dooly and have the 6 auxiliary switches in that location. Can't find a traction control button anywhere. My 19 1500 had one. What the hell'd they do with it!?

  • @Waskapmutni
    @Waskapmutni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Should be pointed out that ESC only turns off if you're in 4 lock. 4 low it turns off the ESC automatically. That's at least how my 2012 1500 works. It has the 4 Auto option.
    If this already has been pointed out in the video and I simply missed it, I apologize.
    Now for my experience with the ESC system doing its thing, I only sometimes make the back end slip intentionally, because I find it satisfying how quite intense the back end gets "kicked" back into place. I put it this way because in my opinion it does feel like a giant foot gives the back end a kick with just the right amount of power.

      @@TheGettyAdventures thought about doing the lift all around with 37's but then getting into totally messing with suspension geometry and track bar in the back is a pain. Then towing and loading my quads in the back becomes more of a pain too. The mpg you'll lose with a 37 would also be pretty substantial I'd imagine lol. Switching to a fox shock is the next step for me I've heard it improves ride quality 100% from the guys on the Ontario power wagon group. I'm about 45 minutes south of Hamilton.

    @kkff1388 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ahhhahaha ahhh alright so the end of the video you BACKED out, with your tail between. So that leaves something to LOOK forward to in future video's. You can probly put it righttttt in the title that you are going BACK to that infamous hill and or spot where you got stuck last time to Conquer or see if you can just get through it normally without getting stuck. Good points about turning the ESC off, it does help sometimes. Otherwise I have been stuck ONCE to the point where I at least perceived myself as having to call a Tow. So I called CAA and they came and pulled me out. However since then I have gotten 2 MAXSA Escaper buddies. They are just big orange traction control heavy duty plastic traction aids. I've used them twice since. Once just to test them out when I first bought them. I just wanted to see if they would actually work in my time of need or if I should just return them right away lol. I also wanted to see if they would support the weight of my truck 2020 RAM Rebel. Not only did they work, they supported the weight of my truck without issue at all. I have now just in the last few days used them a second time since we got about 2 feet of snow here in, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in the last few days. So on my free time I was simply going out and driving around enjoying the streets that were NOT plowed yet. I saw probably about 100 different ppl stuck, usually in FRONT WHEEL drive cars lol. Which of course is typical, that's what happens when you for some reason buy a front wheel drive car in a climate with lots of snow duhhhh lol. I watched plows and pick ups with a plow on the front drive right bye these ppl so I stopped got out and helped every single one I came across actually because that's just something I like to do lol. Rather than just drive bye like a f'ing prick lol. Okay so out of everyone I helped ONLY ONE needed the traction boards. He was a elderly old man with his wife and they were just spinning their front wheels in on ice on top of that kinda wedged on top of deep snow. So we dug the snow out and then tried, wheels still spun. So we used the traction boards, have the MAXSA brand. LOOOOOOL he got out and got un stuck and rolling INSTANTLY. I'm telling ppl for anyone who doesn't know, these thing's MAXSA traction boards are a savior. I got mine for about $100 because they were/are used, meaning someone previously owned them. Looks like they are almost $300 now lol. Crazy high price, back when I was gonna buy them online they were $200. That was only about a year ago. Dunno why they jacked the price up, usually when a product starts doing MORE volume they can afford to LOWER the price lol. But SOME companies do the opposite, not a good sign. Anyways THEY WORK! What else can I tell you?! If you're wondering about a traction aid that can get you unstuck short of a winch or straps this is it!

    • @TheGettyAdventures
      @TheGettyAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly what I'm thinking! and man Ottawa always gets crushed with snow. My mom grew up there on the east end near Montreal street. Granted, I have an open diff which sucked in general and now that I have this PW maybe that will change! appreciate the comment sir! and keep plowing through the snow up there!

      Awesome happy to hear that! well, I would like to keep my stock tires for now. Figured I would test out the limits of this truck first. the only Con I see if the increased fuel consumption. these trucks have heavy duty drive lines and axles paired with tall gearing so it should be able to handle the bigger tire just fine.
      the pros would be the ground clearance. I think the rear diff if only like 9 inches from the ground so bigger tires would help bring that diff up higher!
