    In this video, I took the Water Wolf out to two lakes: Millerton Lake and O'Neill Forebay. At Millerton Lake I noticed the small mouth bass were chasing my AJ Lures swimbait. They were aggressive but not inhaling the bait. After watching the footage from my Water Wolf, I went over to O'Neill Forebay for some striper fishing.
    I stuck to my AJ Lures swimbait and caught a few fish. I did notice that i was getting a lot of hits from these stripers so I switch out the AJ lures swimbait for a SpeedLures 130 jerkbait. I figured they must be doing the same thing the bass were doing at Millerton Lake. Anything that would hit the lure would surely get hooked. Sure enough, after putting on the SpeedLures 130 jerkbait, my hookup ratio increased.
    Sometimes seeing what happens underwater can improve your hook ups quite a bit.

    Awesome video Meng. Your video showed exactly how I hook a 21 inch striper at O'NEIL Forebay, hooked it on the body. Basically it got caught on the triple hook, fowled hook it as it try to injure the lure 😆

    I appreciate this video. Thank you for it. I am most impressed that the fish were not spooked by that size of a camera right at them. That tells me some things about the fish. I like going to Bass Pro Shops and watching the bass in the tank. If they are hugging the back wall and structure, they are doing the same thing in the lakes. Every time.

    This is a very good video. I notice bass have a similar behavior as stripe bass. I’ve had bass strike super hard on a whopper plopper and missing it. But I’ll slow it down and make it seem like it’s injured and they’ll come back and demolish it!

    Looked like the big strike occurred when the lure seemed in distress. Easier prey.

    Nice Job Meng with this weather change do you think it will affect the behavior in a positive or negative way?

    • @MengXyong
      @MengXyong  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A cold front after a warming trend usually slows down the bite. The next warming trend should increase activity. That doesn't mean you won't catch fish during a weather change.

    Man, you're amazing FishAholic. So, if I understand correctly, I should slow downs my retrieval of the swim bait right? What's about the jerk, pause, and retrieve? Thank you very much again and again for your very informative videos.

    • @MengXyong
      @MengXyong  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're trolling, slowing down the boat or pulling your rod back n forth once in a while can entice a strike. From shore, try different retrieves until you get a bite. Sometimes they'll like it fast with a quick pause, sometimes they'll like it slow and steady. Let the fish tell you what it wants that day. Thanks for the kind words brother and good luck.

      Great advices. Your inputs are always informative and helpful. I will try practicing techniques you advice.
      Oh, what do you recommend for type of rod and reel, as well as line for swim bait (like the big hammer) as I fish inshore? There are so many too choose from as I shop at Bass Pro Shop. I can afford quality tackles(I spent much money on average stuff) so now I want to devote good quality tools even though I understand quality tackles don't really make me a better fisherman. Thank you so much in advance FishAholics.

      I don't use swimbait rods as often since I like lighter setups. I had a Dobyns once which was sturdy and worked well with some heavier swimbaits I had. Casting all day with it was quite a feat. For fishing line 30lb power pro braid has been working great for me.

    i live in NY and go fishing in the Hudson River, i dont habe a boat so i fish from the shore with my dad, we havent gone fishing in a while tho but we are planning to go soon, would you recommend blood worms or lures? great vid btw :)

    • @MengXyong
      @MengXyong  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both! I've used both with success. Once I couldn't get any strikes on a jigged fluke so I hooked a bloodworm on the jigged fluke. Two casts later, it was fish on.

      Project Mercy2 Aye i live on the hudson too, they have sick striper fishing through May, the best way to catch is blood worms on a bottom fishing rig. Lures dont catch nearly as much. The bass react really well to blood works when they are on the spawn, my buddy got a 35lber, and another guy set the state record a few years ago on a blood worm. Caught tons of fish on them

    Hey Mang, I see you were trolling at Millerton. I remember quite some years ago, it was common to hook up on strippers at Millerton as well. What ever happened to that fishery for strippers?

    • @MengXyong
      @MengXyong  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read somewhere that there's an age slot when striper reproduction is at it's prime. Once they get past that, they becomes less successful. Most of the stripers at Milerton are older heavy weights that are probably past their prime. That could explain the declining fishery. The state would have to restock the striper population to keep the fishery healthy.
