It is straight up nasty, but my favorite song is And I Return to Nothingness which is just a symphonic, sweeping melodic masterpiece with no breakdown needed. I fucking love this type of evolution and maturity in both of those bands sounds.

I’m honestly not too big into deathcore, but listening to Shadow of Intent has made me appreciate the genre a bit more (since they don’t lean TOO much into the deathcore side of metal)
I’d say this is more death metal than deathcore, if anything There’s no real breakdowns, and there’s so much melody and symphony to it This just reminds me of bands like Bodom, Amon Amarth, all those European death metal/black metal bands There isn’t much “core” to this, but fuck me it slaps hard
All I can say is I can’t wait for another Currents album after SOI. I want whatever Chris is cooking up in that musical genius brain of his His songwriting is on another level, and the fact he can predominantly write music for 2 bands in quite different genres, it’s amazing

I love how unafraid they are of layering screams too, it sounds amazing. Sidebar: I love the recent power metal influences in death metal + deathcore. Everything sounds epic and majestic right now and I'm in love with that.
Yeah you can hear tons of modern death metal and deathcore bands taking influence from groups like Epica, Children of Bodom, wintersun and Dragonforce.
Last track felt more like them just going "Hey, we're back btw." This one feels a little more like the SOI we all know and love with a bit more focus on that "epic" feel they are so well known for. Fantastic track that makes me SOOO stoked for the upcoming album

I've listened to deathcore for soooo many years. Really most genre's of metal. It's about damn time that so many people are are finally understanding why it's so good and that it's not just noises (I've heard that to many times) smh. Also saying that, this last year and a half or so has been completely just insanely ridiculous for new deathcore songs, albums, bands and collaborations. I just keep getting blown away by all this new incredible music coming out. All this new exposure to listeners who are new to deathcore or giving it another listen, this is probably the best year to start. Everything I seem to see pop up on TH-cam is some new Reactor, reacting to one of the bunches of insane new songs, loving it and then listening to more and more. F7cking love that it's happening. I think the 4.25/5 is spot on! Excellent track overall in terms of production, melody, the clearly hearable yet intense low growls, the not having a chugfest and creating some space, etc. I think even just having 1 additional scream sing line on the second chorus alone would of bumped this to a 4.5 lol.
As a Ukrainian this song rips me to shreds knowing our history and what the Russians did to us. Feels good knowing that my fave band can acknowledge our history of hardship and suffering.
