This project was a LOT of work but we could not be happier with how it came together...we forgot to mention it in the video but before we started painting we washed every piece of trim and ceiling boards with a product called "Murphy's Oil", which is basically a soap that completely changed the look of the cedar. The grains are so much deeper and richer now, ugh...I just can't imagine having a dreamier space to host our loved ones. What do you think of how it came together and the first major transformation of the cabin?! Are you seeing the vision yet? 😍
Seeing Charlie jump up onto the bed was such a heartwarming and special moment! He just keeps surprising everyone with how well he is recovering from his surgery. The guest room looks cosy and inviting. The nighttime drone shot of the cottage with glimpses of the lake is really spectacular. Hugs to your fur babies 🙂
“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” - A.W. Ward - So happy to watch you adapt your dreams or adjust your sails a little as it were - in order to find a happier & more serene pathway to achieve your dreams! I love your guest bedroom transformation - Proof the Devils' in the Details! I agree 1000% about the lighting. Bright white lights belong in the operating room, craft room and workshop and not in the anywhere else in the home.
You guys seem so much happier in these recent videos! Proof that this was the right move for both of you. Everything from your energy to your banter has changed in such a positive way. You sound excited by the projects, and the satisfaction of finishing a room really shows. Very happy for you.
My week is not complete without my Sunday and Wednesday dose of Tyler, Todd, Charlie, Eddie, and Squirrel. Continue to shine you beautiful light of love to the world guys. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I also enjoy making sure that my guests are happy and comfortable. However, a builder friend told me to always finish the Primary bedroom first when working on my home. This way at the end of the day of working on restoration and construction mess, you have a cozy, finished space to go to sleep. It also inspires you in the morning because the Primary is done, looks great, and helps get you moving to work on the next project. My ex-husband did not agree with this idea and we never did finish that Primary bedroom. I used this philosophy in my second marriage. I am certainly not implying anything (the two of you have a connection that is not often seen or felt, you are truly blessed), just a thought. I adore the changes to the guest room!! So inviting!!
@@tylerandtoddAre you getting that flooding problem fixed somehow? I can’t stand the thought of you putting all this effort into making the place look so beautiful and cosy, but then flooding ruins it all. It worries me the whole time.
**** Hey guys.. that bedroom is designed for the head of the bed to be on the beam side.. no one gets into a bed at the pillow point... we generally stand at the middle of the bed and sit down on the mattress.. with a nice little side table, no one will ever be close enough to the beam to hit their head.. Also the Skylight would be directly over the bed where your guest could watch the stars and clouds and moonlight. If they look to their right they can gaze out over the balcony and see the lake.. all from the comfort of their bed. It is Super Adorable Guys!!! I love the plants!! I love the comfy chair and confy foot rest.. You guys nailed it with painting that over that old color.. nice and fresh and beautiful.. I bet they didn't want to leave so soon.. So happy for you guys..
Hey guys. I’ve followed your channel ever since you were in the RV. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Keep up the great work guys. Take care and lots of hugs to our furry little friends too😊
the new paint color in the loft is perfect! while you were installing the loft fan, I couldn't help but wonder "how are they going to replace the fan in the background thats in the living room?" it's sooo high!! I know you'll find a way. Maybe hire an Aerialist from Cirque du Soleil :)
Guys, the place is really coming together. The paint really helped make the bedroom much larger. And it looks so cozy now! Ahhh, what can I say, I just love all that hard woood!😉
Guest room looks great! Two things: 1) there's nothing wrong with wearing a helmet in the house. 😂 2) for your next fan, I highly recommend Big Ass Fans. They have smaller ones that are super quiet and work better than any fan I ever used - and I love the breeze setting. (I don't work for or with them.) Have a fabulous week!
I agree, I just installed a 70 in 8 blade fan. It also has the breeze feature. I love that feature. I was always told to only buy name brand fans or you have nothing but trouble. Well after this last fan. I say f#@k name brands. Looks like the same company because it has the same features. My fan is rock stable and has 3 light colors. Love it. Mine does not work with the switch either. Like Tyler said "f@#k the switch. I mounted my remote next to the light switch and it came with a wall holder. Looks great. I did not have to spend 2 hours balancing the wobble. There was no wobble.
All I can say is Wow!!!! What a transformation; it’s amazing how some paint and a lot of love will transform a room. You both have such a vision and have done an amazing job. Your guests will love this space.
Absolutely beautiful, white and natural wood colors is the perfect combination. Adding the light under bins makes the room so cozy and inviting, great job, I can’t wait to see the complete renovation
You guys were truly cracking me up today..... as someone who is coming to the end of a complete condo reno, I am right there with you. NOTHING is as straightforward as it seems. You got the mattress out of your bathroom! I just got rid of the toilet that has been perched in my living room for weeks. A true sign of progress. Your guest room is like a breath of fresh air. Beautiful! Keep on keeping on! You're doing great!
After watching the guest room come to life, I'm more than a little jealous that Darcy and Jer got to stay there and break it in. I'm especially fond of the hardware you picked for the room. As I usual, you killed the design.
My gra father was a professional painter. He said the number coats depended on the darkness of the paint you're trying to cover. The darker the color, the more coats. I've found that's still true. You guys do a good job.
I saw a wooden cottage, similar to yours redone on a TH-cam video and I was appalled that they were going to paint the whole ceiling white and ruin that beautiful natural wood. When it was done, I couldn’t believe how much more I liked it. It made the whole house seem simpler and not so chaotic. That guest bedroom alone has like four or five doors in it. If they were standard doors, I would paint the closet doors the same color as the wall to make them disappear and make it easier for a guest to know which door leads the out to the bedroom.
TYLER & TODD You both radiate such calm & happiness since moving into the cottage. I have been an avid fan since you lived in the 1st RV. I have NEVER witnessed the joy that you both exude... I am so infatuated with you both & the fur babies. Sending you much love from Bend, Oregon. xoxo
I laughed so loud I scared my cat when you said " you make a better door than a window. ". Must be an east coast / maritime thing as I heard that ALL the time growing up in NS. The white primer alone made a huge difference. It was amazing how bright and even modern it made the space. This house is going to be amazing when you finish it.
Tyler, I agree with you regarding giving the guests the best bedroom. I have just finished the main bedroom and it looks amazing and is for my guests. People ask me why don’t I use the room but I would prefer my guests to be comfortable.
Murphy’s Soap is marvelous. The evolution from the old paint to new is amazing. The fan is”fantastic “! The whole room is so nice. You are a caretaker, my friend. You are very good at making people feel comfortable and welcome!
A helpful hint about the paint can. Make a few holes in the "LIP" of the paint can with a nail. The paint will drain back into the can. No more splash when you put back the lid.
Love the lighting and vibe...your guests won't want to leave! PS I bought an old house four years ago and have been renovating it by myself since then. I love watching your progress and was super excited when you bought the cabin because I can really relate to all the projects. I've lived without much living room furniture because I just couldn't make up my mind on a couch...but in 2 days I'm expecting a delivery from Wayfair...thanks for the inspiration ❤ If you can assemble a couch, then so can I. I hope!!
This cabin has really made Todd’s heart so content ❤️🥰 He is just hilarious lately!! Love how full his heart is in your new home! Please keep putting a mic on Todd. He cracks me up and also fills me up with love too with all of those funny sexy comments 😊😂❤
Todd is one 100% right! You simply cannot walk under a ladder! I'm pretty sure it's the law! Wow whoever comes to stay at your place is a lucky person! Beautiful place!
And just like that, you two have created a beautiful place for your guests to relax. You are so kind, and your guests will feel welcome . I just love that you two are so happy in your new home.
I see the two of you each week and dream of having that person that helps make a house a home. I know you have your ups and downs, but you come together and create your own happiness. I love seeing you both each week. Bless you both 🙏
Oh guys the bedroom looks incredible, you made such a good job of the makeover. It looks so bright and airy and so much bigger. When there is so much wood I dont know why people would paint darker colours on the walls. With all the furnishings the room looks so inviting and relaxing. I love the lights, it gives the room a stylish and romantic feeling x
Greetings from eastern Ontario, and I love everything you're doing. I do not blame you one bit for deciding to forego the "joys" of rustic living this winter. I like my mod-cons too much. The expression I remember from my childhood a couple of centuries ago is: "you make a better door than window even though you are a pane".
That old ceiling fan was SO dated. It didn't look too bad until you got the new, sleek one up and then it was like "Euuww..." One suggestion, as I learned this the hard way and ended up with a broken wrist: always wear proper shoes when climbing on a ladder. I was coming down and the open back of the heel of my slipper (like the ones you were wearing) hooked on one of the steps and, well, one surgery and 2 steel plates later I will never make that mistake again. Stay safe boys!!
The room is gorgeous! An amazing transformation! Can't wait to see Christmas at the cabin! And to see what you will do with your room! Another amazing video! ❤
You're both laughing and joking together more. Your personalities are shining through. This cabin was a great idea for the both of you because you seem more like yourselves and well rested.
Its great to see you guys so happy and more relaxed. and Todd is so funny, he makes your life Tyler full of laughed. you both work so well together, great too see, have a great week guys. looking forward to seeing you next week.
My dad used to use the phrase better door then a window all the time. Thanks Todd for the jogging of my memory. Always enjoy your videos! Have a great week.
So I just finished binging your channel start to current! The journey you've taken has been such a ride - seeing the difference in your demeanors from the first video to the last, even with the trials and setbacks, you seem so much more genuinely happy now. To keep it short and sweet: your videography is gorgeous, the keep-it-real vibe is refreshing, the podcast is great, and my 9-year-old calls you the "cozy guys" because you're "so woodsy and happy" (her words). Can't wait to see where it all leads, blessings to you both and all the fur babies!
The guest room turned out just beautiful. It looks so comfy and cozy. Your guests are going to love staying with you and probably won't want to leave. Can't wait to see the next project. BTW, how did the basement turn out? Were the fans able to dry out the floors and walls? I'm praying you don't have any mold issues.
You get full marks for thinking of your guests before shaping your own bedroom! I commend your thoughtfulness! In fact, I think this moment defines your incredibly positive characteristics throughout the years I have followed you! I certainly needed to experience this today, having just been overloaded with all the negative news from our southern neighbours who seem to be worshipping an "Orange Jesus"! You remind me of all the positives in the world.
Lol imagine giving the tour of our new place to our guests and being like..."uh, yeah so this is your room". We always want our guests to feel like they're at home!
Just a tip with paint can lip. Take the lid off. Before you pour any paint out. Take a hammer and nail. And hammer the nail in just far enough to create a hole. Take it out and continue to put about 6-7 holes around the inside of the lip of the can. So when you pour paint out and place the can back level, the paint will drain through those holes, back into your can. It really helps to keep the outside of the can clean. And when you pound the lid back on the can, there is less of a mess.
The guest bedroom looks amazing. The white paint makes it look so much BIGGER and BRIGHTER!! I love color, but I prefer the white paint. The wood now looks so perfect. This room says " I love you" your guests will love it.
To prep the top of a paint can so the paint won’t accumulate, Simply use a largish nail to make three holes spaced from each other. The excess paint will flow back into the can.
Oh guys, it looks fantastic. I am constantly amazed at your work ethic. You never stop, you never get so bored, you just give up for a while, you overcome every difficulty you face, no matter how hard it gets. You’re amazing, truly! I’m in awe!
The guest bedroom turned out great. I'm so glad that you're starting to get rid of those obnoxious colors. Lightening up the room color will really transform the vibe of your home.
If you tape a V with wide masking tape over the edge of a paint can (like if you were taping a triangle over the edges, minus one side), you can pour without getting paint in the lip. When you're done just pull the tape off and toss it, you'll have a clean lip with no paint to splash out when you put the lid back on!
I just have to say again that you two gentlemen are AMAZING. Watching your videos makes me super happy, I also have to say that I just adore Todd more and more every week ( your amazing to Tyler ) just listening To Todd makes me so so happy. Have a great week guys.
If you continue that theme throughout your home the whole space will be like an architectural hug, so calm and inviting. On the downside - no-one that visits will want to leave........As for Christmas cottage vibe - can't wait to see.
A tiny suggestion for paint cans. If you take a small, thin nail and puncture the bottom of the rim of your paint can two or three times and the excess paint will dribble back into the can so it won't squirt-out when you replace the lid. However, it does compromise your seal to some degree - so do this ONLY when you're going to use much or all of the can in a short while (a few weeks). Good luck! DA
I'm 64 years old and my parents used to say that when we stood in front of the TV so yes, it's a saying. Plus, my stepdad worked for the Corning Glass Works so it was kind of an inside joke, Lol....LOVE your videos and look forward to them every Sunday....
Watching you two was exactly the little bit of peace that i needed today. I love how...zen you both are now. It's like Tyler said, "it's nice to just have it and not think about it." We love you guys. We'll see you Wednesday! Love and hugs, Chris and Eduardo
The under lights are perfect, just the right ambiance and no fixtures blocking the lines of the wood beams. The neutral wall color allows the natural beauty of the wood to stand out and the choice of accenting with plants, makes the room flow and breathe ❤❤❤
I am amazed over the transformation of the guest bedroom! Squirrel is such a beautiful cat - wonder how much paint got on her. Can't wait to see the entire cottage repainted and fully furnished. Good idea to borrow furniture both the RV and the dome. Charlie looks so much happier now that he is not in pain.
This project was a LOT of work but we could not be happier with how it came together...we forgot to mention it in the video but before we started painting we washed every piece of trim and ceiling boards with a product called "Murphy's Oil", which is basically a soap that completely changed the look of the cedar.
Your videos are never long enough 😢 I mean they are perfect but I’m never really ready for them to end 😅❤
The guest bedroom turned out Beautiful ❤
Oh guys, it looks fantastic. I am constantly amazed at your work ethic. You never stop, you never get so bored, you just give up for a while, you overcome every difficulty you face, no matter how hard it gets. You’re amazing, truly! I’m in awe!
"Were you born in a tent?" - Aussie expression for "shut the door!"
😆🤣😆
Your new home looks more like a luxury resort than a cabin. What a transformation. Alan
My mom showed me a tip with Paint cans. Hammer small holes around the can with a nail and it’ll drain all of the paint back into the can. 😀
Suggestion from Australia. When pouring paint into tray, make a couple of nail holes in the lip - any paint will flow back into the can.
That loft makes a better office because of the eves the length of the wall can accommodate a desk. That way you avoid bumping your head on the beams😘
That's an AWESOME home. It's about time you guys got an actual home. It is beautiful
I agree with Tod, that space beside the closet would be a good place to hide something. Maybe a book nook vignette would be a whimsical surprise
Good luck! DA
I totally agree, I hate overhead harsh lighting, I call it the gyno light, I feel like I’m in an examination room! Love the soft light designs!
Todd must be in a 'mood'. The naughty innuendos were FLYING! And Tyler....not under the ladder! Congratulations on the cottage!
You two have become my Sunday comic relief 😂😂… just adore you.
