Beautiful Bowl! Weird wood seems to always have beautiful grain to them.
Minwax Sanding Sealer works great, but sometimes I don't like the way it darkens the wood, so I sometimes use a 50/50 mixture of Water and Elmers Wood Glue. It fills in the punky areas, dries fast, doesn't darken the wood and you can put any kind of finish on it.

Bowl looks awesome. One day I hope to have your skill/ability. As for the lacquer, try reducing it 2:1, or 200% ... two parts thinner, one part lacquer. It will soak into the wood more readily, apply thinner and flash off/dry more quickly. Also, since the thinner is cheaper than the actual lacquer, it will significantly reduce the cost of your sealer and stretch out the lacquer as well.

Nice Bowl. I have a big chunk of Black Jack Oak that I got from a neighbor whose tree blew down from a storm. Maybe I should give it a try turning.
CA glue and baking soda is a very good repair idea for wood. When I repaired chips in helicopter rotor blades, that is what I used to make those repairs. It is strong, sands nicely and takes primer & paint. Keep this repair in your arsenal for future fixes since it works well provided you don’t have any unsupported torquing or shearing actions on them. The mixture will fail under these conditions, but great for cosmetic uses. Ok for filling cracks.
    Thanks for sharing!

Pretty piece, Kim. Spalted Blackjack oak is really pretty and you know I turn quite a bit of it. Great job!

That is a gorgeous piece of work! You scared me a bit when you brought up the tail stock to take off the tenon, as I saw the bottom of the bowl flexing I was afraid it was going to break. As for removing the nub the same thing has happened to me with a bowl going airborne. I am glad it was all intact! You did indeed come close to catching it. You seem to be the master of finishing. I am going to try using sanding sealer and see what happens. Believe it or not denatured alcohol is very hard to purchase here in Canada. Home Depot and Lowes don't carry it. I finally found it in small bottles at a drug store chain called London Drugs. Congrats on another stunning creation!
