    Kim , a fantastic job. I have been turning cake stands for years, oak, walnut, sycamore. 1/4 sawed sycamore is my favorite. One thing I do is to put a large base for stability.

    When I create something with wool, wirework, gemstones and/or window color I always have the recipient in mind. That way I can customize the things I am crafting. And I always have also a picture in my mind how my craftswork looks like. Just like you do.

      @@KimTippin It just dawned on me why you say that about walnut. Up here in Western PA it grows everywhere - I all too often pull it as a weed from my flower beds and garden. I'm sure there's wood down your way I'd give eye teeth for. If I had any to give 😁

    Beautiful piece Kim. I haven’t turned a cake stand before or even really a shallow platter like that either but think I’ll have to give it a try. I like the idea of using 3 separate pieces for the stand rather than one solid chunk. I’ve seen them done from one piece before and that seems a bit intimidating and maybe a bit dangerous to. Using separate pieces looks like it makes the work much easier and would give some opportunity for different decorative aspects.

    Great cake stand using up random sized pieces of Walnut vice one large hunk. Personally, I wouldn’t include a lip on the top tray because it makes it more difficult to slide a cake onto, and when cutting slices, ones’ cake knife can’t easily cut straight down without hitting that edge. But, to each his/her own. The end result looks nice & is functional not just decorative. Keep on turning.
