    Why you don't use a garbage disposal in this build? Thank you.

    • @TJLawrence254
      @TJLawrence254  2 ปีที่แล้ว +109

      Good question. I get this question alot and I didn't do one for a couple of reasons. The first one is due to living rural. The septic system I have is not designed for digesting plant solids. They do make a special disposal system that injects enzymes when the disposal is running but they are very expensive. The second reason is I don't have the electrical wires or switch run and would have to add all that in to make it work. The third reason is money. I got this sink on clearance and am a tight budget. I hope this answers your question! Thanks for watching!

    I've done this before. A word of wisdom/convenience - put the faucet and soap dispenser as well as the drain flange on BEFORE you install the sink. That way you don't have to do all that work while contorting yourself under the cabinet.

      Absolutely. Cut the faucet box down and use it to protect the countertop. Install everything you can on the new sink before dropping into the opening.

      @Chimel31 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think not, it's much safer if you are doing the work alone to keep the sink as neat and light as possible. It's really not that much of work to add the faucet and soap dispenser after.
      But if you have some kind of support where the sink can rest with its accessories and you have help to position precisely the sink in place, one person above the sink, one person under it, that may save 3 minutes.

      @@Chimel31a stainless sink doesn’t weigh that much. Beyond that, a faucet only weighs around 1-2lbs. It’s not like you are adding 50+lbs to the sink by installing your faucet first. I think you may be overthinking this.

    I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I used it to do my own sink replacement from an almost identical setup to a Kraus sink. I also removed a garbage disposal, which took up a ton of room under the sink since we never used it and from many things I've read, they're not great for the pipes, etc. I did end up using the optional plumber's putty - that stuff just keeps oozing out the top, but it's easy to scrape off the excess. Anyway, thanks again!

    • @TJLawrence254
      @TJLawrence254  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, that could be a challenge. You are in the right place! TH-cam has just about a video for any problem! Some of the best channels for home remodeling are This Old House and See Jane Drill. I started out learning the trades in Highschool. And from Handyman Club of America encyclopedias. But, whenever I am trying to figure out a problem like plumbing where I can't find a good resource online or in a book I usually just get all the possible parts I think I may need from Menards and keep trying parts Until I make something that works. It's not the most efficient way to do things but its how I learn the most! As far as flow you should have about 1/4 inch of drop per foot of pipe. If the outlet pipe in the wall is too high up to be slightly lower that the new trap, and the trap is installed as high as it can go, The pipe in the wall will have to be lowered. This requires a hole in the wall but is really not any more difficult that what I did in this video. Just a bit more time and materials. I hope this helps!

    Is shopping for the replacement sink as simple as measuring the dimensions of the hole once you’ve pulled the old sink out, or is there a way to get the specs before you pull the sink out?

    Great video. Gives me the confidence to do it myself. Question: what would be the reason for a single sink over a double? Thanks

      Double sinks are more for hand washing dishes but won't fit large pots or pans. a large single bowl sink is more versatile and will fit just about anything you need to wash. At the end of the day it is all down to your preference. Thanks for watching!

    Question! So we installed the same faucet type. Tightend it as much as possible however with force my husband and still rotate it with brute strength. Is that normal? I can too but bot by much.
    Thank you for youe video! Makes it look easy!

      No, you shouldn't be able to rotate it once it's tightened down. Rotate the collar as far as you can the set the two screws firmly should be all it takes.

    Do you like this sink? Any reason to buy a heavier 16 gauge?
