The design was counterproductive to performance, their coolers on their graphics cards were subpar (and that’s being generous) and they continued the tired Dell tradition of compartmentalization to the detriment of performance due to overly constricted airflow. Longevity concerns aside, for the sake of temperatures, performance, and overall noise, their old designs have been holding them back. This new design at least gives them a fighting chance at competing in terms of temperatures, noise, and over all performance for the price
@@katawonga point is once people started to realize they were getting an underperforming product for the money with a massive premium, they stopped buying it and dell had to adapt because the heart could no longer justify what the heart wanted when what the heart wanted sounded like a mig 23 taking off launching google chrome
You're concerned about looks, but it's a computer. 1st priority is function, if you want looks then you can buy a piece of art. You wouldn't buy a good looking car that doesn't run
Yeah im going to save up for the R16. I have the R9 and like it, but i want to uodate to the current gen desktop. I dont have 2k to spend on a mid grade desktop.
And they still failed that. It runs a bit cooler, but it still uses the same weirdly shaped board that prevents both case and motherboard swaps, and the PSU is still not standard ATX. And they're still way overpriced. Competitors provide higher quality parts running at cooler temperatures for cheaper.
@BlizzardSnowMew It takes a lot more time to design a new chip than a new case. I'm sure they will move toward being more and more like every other pc as thing progress (should you view it as progress). I'd prefer they go back to the drawing board and try and wow us again. We already have Dell for boring stuff
The whole point of having high tech alien technology is the refinement. If it's more convenient, then it's more refined there for its more high tech. Unless you are trying to say human tech is more advanced.
I'm guessing it's because the previous iterations had HORRIBLE air flow and the thermals weren't great. The R15 actually was tested as performing worse than a test unit with the same hardware, mostly due to thermal throttling.
I install DEEPCOOL AK620 ZERO To DARK. NOW at 30 Degree to 40 Degree. When gaming 50 to 60 Degree. Added extra Front Fan as well. That way bios will not come up. So total of 3 Extra Fans Works!
I think it’s great for new customers but they should do more custom builds for top tier customers like state of the art stuff and theories. Like instead of just fans for cooling they do custom cooling ducts, they have an intake system where a fan introduces cool air to a part via a direct airflow duct that also directly exhaust the pass through air for better performance since it be more efficient at cooling than random air flowing inside a pc case
They also could make the old design work. Get rid of all the internal plastic peices, and replace the plastic front with mesh while keeping the same shape, and add a standard 360mm mount for fans. Add a 360mm fan mount on the bottom. Make the entire back mesh line the Fractal Designs Torrent. Separate the front io panel to its own PCB and use a standard ATX board and PSU. Use the space behind the motherboard for HDD and SATA SSD mounts instead of blocking airflow inside the case. Make it an air cooled focused build because of blocked off top of the case. Its really sad that they got rid of the standout aesthetic, but made a box with all of the exact same problems.
I remove the Liquid Cooler Radiator, with Upgraded to deepcool AK620 - ZERO DARK / 2 CPU Fans, and Extra Front Fan.. NOW it is very cooler.. I am at now normal 30 to 40 Degree. Gaming now at 50 to 60 Degree. Curren LIQUID fan will damage the CPU. Better Change it!!!
I got it 1 week ago and already has 1 computer crash for no reason. Also one of my games keeps crashing and is loud. My asus laptop might have been old but was reliable. I will give it another week but if not I am returning and going with asus.
I’m grabbing one the old one won’t fit my desk and I like my desk more than the computer so had to get one that would fit and this one’s perfect and that egg shit I could care less about but that i9 and 4090 are a must
The r15 is the last alienware i will get….i refuse to believe they had to sacrifice whole design to fix the thermal issues (which ive never even experienced btw) they need to fire whoever is in charge
No one should be complaining about the. See this is my first for my kid and your dropping 2k to not deal with the heating which was a problem with earlier models, so which is it you want performance or design. I feel it’s the right call and goes to show pleasing people is always the wrong idea.
I used to be a fan and I recently bought R15. But now i feel stupid looking at R16. I lost my faith completely in Alienware. If it has to look like this then there are definitely better options. I mean whats the point anymore. Alienware is done !!!!
Horrible marketing choice, they really shot themselves in the foot…the previous haters were people who have never even owned alienwares Ive never had any issues that people talk about
I own the x15 R1 laptop from Alienware, and yes, the newer smaller desktop case looks boring and does not scream Alienware. Although the newer smaller design is supposed to help with heat and cool the components better, the bigger, previous model had an opportunity to have better thermals and better airflow while keeping its really cool design, since it had more space, but their designers/engineers messed up big and or they cut corners and failed to improve the heat and airflow. Gamer Nexus showed their poor execution on their internal designs/thermals/airflow. Sad though. Not 👽 enough.
Frankly, it's boring and Dell was lazy with the case design. Also, makes no sense having a clear side with hardly anything lighting up inside the case other than a fan. Just feels lazy and I wish Dell had never bought Alienware.
I get why they did it. However, I say it's a little lazy on their part. They could have made a design both pleasing and spacious. They were like it, either make it futuristic or functional. What not make it an "and" not "or".

While still looking somewhat differentiated from their competitors
That's a really great perspective. Thanks for sharing.
All excellent points mate. But, the heart wants what it wants 😅

I just bought the 4090 r16 and it is sick as F. Never had a better computer.
I have a video review coming up and I have to agree with you 😏
Well if it’s sick send it back! Surely it’s under warranty ? It shouldn’t break down if it’s new ! DOH !
Yeah im going to save up for the R16. I have the R9 and like it, but i want to uodate to the current gen desktop. I dont have 2k to spend on a mid grade desktop.
Blame GamersNexus
They basically built a machine out of spite to satisfy their demands.
And they still failed that. It runs a bit cooler, but it still uses the same weirdly shaped board that prevents both case and motherboard swaps, and the PSU is still not standard ATX.

That’s a great perspective. I hadn’t thought of it that way 🙌🏾
aliens dont exist
Oh man!! This is sad. I miss their craziness.
Me too. I get the practicality of the design but still, they could have found a way to
I agree. It's starting to look like the old dell vostro and inspiron desktops.
I'm guessing it's because the previous iterations had HORRIBLE air flow and the thermals weren't great. The R15 actually was tested as performing worse than a test unit with the same hardware, mostly due to thermal throttling.
Exactly I’ll take the box over the space ship look to know my 2k investment is actually a good one. Great comment.

The r16 is the best case so far and upgradeable
I've got it finally and in the process of reviewing it.
Upgradeable how? Memory?

💯 agree. They gotta keep the Alien in Alienware

r16 look like sheet PC case, boring
I got it 1 week ago and already has 1 computer crash for no reason. Also one of my games keeps crashing and is loud. My asus laptop might have been old but was reliable. I will give it another week but if not I am returning and going with asus.
Oh damn. So sorry to hear that. I hope you didn't get a lemon, it happens with some releases. What config did you get?
I’m grabbing one the old one won’t fit my desk and I like my desk more than the computer so had to get one that would fit and this one’s perfect and that egg shit I could care less about but that i9 and 4090 are a must
I love the understated and minimalist design. 😅
WHATA FUCK WITH THE FREAKY BOX
They’ve been listening to the hard critics hating on the alien look
🔥
That first line sent my ass 😂😂
The r15 is the last alienware i will get….i refuse to believe they had to sacrifice whole design to fix the thermal issues (which ive never even experienced btw) they need to fire whoever is in charge
I totally agree it looks like a boring gaming desktop 😂
the inside is the same as last year. they still used OEM parts. makes me sad
Me too 😒

I like it, less cheap looking lol
Looks good to me.

Agreed mate. But how’s your R15? That’s still a great machine imo
Horrible marketing choice, they really shot themselves in the foot…the previous haters were people who have never even owned alienwares Ive never had any issues that people talk about
I don’t think it’s a step back, they made it 40% smaller & easier to put new parts in
I meant aesthetics only. I’m sure they could have made it smaller but still kept a standout design
If you have this PC you cannot use XMP profile for RAM. Your'e stuck at the RAM's minimum speed. Buyer beware.
Nice video
Thank you 🙏🏾
exactly

Well said mate. They can do better. We the people demand it 😜
Frankly, it's boring and Dell was lazy with the case design. Also, makes no sense having a clear side with hardly anything lighting up inside the case other than a fan. Just feels lazy and I wish Dell had never bought Alienware.
Who cares what it looks like. As long as it has monster specs I don’t care if it’s in a shoebox.
I’d prefer it was in a stunning shoe box with great thermals 😂
Biggest scam prebuilt company
More professional

💯agree
huge step forward.. the old design made alienware a hot box
De acuerdo señor, eso no es Alienware
Both are crap 15 and 16
