Thank you so much for the lesson. I am a 61 yr old woman who hasn't been fishing since I was a kid in my grandpa's boat. I decided better late than never. So, not having as much time to learn as a young kid just starting out, I can use all the help from the experts as I can get. Again, thank you

Grabbed my 12 gauge and fishing pole headed out on combo duck hunt fishing day. Started catching fish and forgot about the duck hunt. Very cold here in Utah and lakes frozen but the rivers still open. Another great day for a
    76 year old timer!

Fished 5 foot visibility 41 degree water temp in Northern VA yesterday and this advice worked for me as the only bites I got were from a jerkbait with 3 second pauses!

I live on a grassy lake in Ohio. Mosquito. They had a MLF event there once. Not my favorite lake. I usually start nailing bass at around 37 degrees after ice out on a trap.

Thanks Randy for all the jerkbait tips. I once thought cold water Bassin was nearly futile. Since picking up the jerkbait and learning how to fish it, winter has become a favored and productive time of year. Never thought I’d look forward to cold water, but now I do. Thanks man!

I gotta tell you Randy, I'm learning so much more about how depth of water clarity factors into selecting the right presentation. Depth, lure color, profile, weight, line test, speed of retrieve, etc.; I find I'm having to retune my prior assumptions, placing more appropriate weight on water clarity depth. Great stuff!

Awesome video! I found what ur saying about cold low vis water very true. Was catching fish in 50.2 degree 6 inches of visibility water on a jerkbait yesterday and was really surprised that fish hit jerkbait in that low of visibility. Only reason I got on this was cause I fished everything else I cud in this water and cudnt get bit in that deep of water. I cud still catch then on cranks up shallow but fish that was on bait in 13 foot wudnt touch anything but a jerkbait.

Very Good cold water tips, I have experienced those different conditions from time to time up on Smith Lake in Alabama and you are spot-on!!! I fished after a very hard rain on a freezing "to me being a native Floridian" winter day and the water Temps were in the 50's When I found clear water on Deep Bluffs I was whacking 3lb. Spots on lucky craft jerkbaits, and when I fished stained more shallow water fish were hitting a blk/red Spinnerbait with a big Colorado blade that I was yo-yoing!
I even caught some nice Largemouth that were just as aggressive as the spots!!!

Randy, I know you all dont fish weiss lake in tournaments. However, its am incredible lake to do a lake breakdown on. It has everything you could want in a fishery. I would encourage you to look at it. Its the first lake on the Coosa chain, its huge, shallow and in my opinion a better lake than Neely Henry by a mile. Giant Spots, 10lb+ largemouths. Many creeks, huge main lake, river with oxbows and many backwaters. Several types of equatic vegetation, 1000’s of boat docks. Wesley Hallman started doing a breakdown of it and only got halfway and stopped. Its known for crappie but its a better bass fishery these days. Thanks

    He's absolutely correct
I have lost count of all the walleye northern and small mouth I caught in Canadian fly in trips and spring fishing trips to the BWCA and spring trips to The American side of Millie Lacs all literally within less than two weeks after ice out and the air temps were still at best in the 50's on average and the water was still mid 40's to mid 50's at best and if the weather was stable we caught endless numbers of fish and all these MN and Canadian lakes had the clearest fresh water I've ever seen

    G'day from Australia mate...
Very interesting subject Randy and I concur about how fish can be so lively in very cold water especially freshwater environments...I think this is due to the large amounts of dissolved oxygen that is being charged in such water...I also firmly believe that the warmer the water is the less dissolved oxygen is charging in that water... Now more dissolved oxygen means the fish are going to be highly charged and eager to feed... I also like to use a colour-c-lector machine that helps me judge what colours to use in the particular water of interest at the time of my hunting fish...Now this is just my opinion but what do you think??? I would appreciate a answer back from a pro angler who has lots of experience fishing in cold water...

May I suggest you also include the condition of if the affect the average depth of the lake as well as the max depth
A lake within spitting distance of my home is over 800 acres in size but it's average depth is under 8' and max depth is under 20'

It’s like the old myth that bass don’t bite during the hottest part of summer. Some of the biggest bass I’ve ever caught was during mid to late afternoon in Central FL. It’s the ‘fisherman’ that either don’t like or have the patience to fish extreme weather conditions and make excuses. I would imagine you would definitely have to be even more patient and diligent when fishing very cold weather and again the impatient fisherman will state that fish don’t bite in cold weather LOL

It’s true, I’ve seen rattlesnakes move faster in a foot of snow than on a 90 degree summer day. Animals have to eat year round despite the elements. Some of the biggest fish I’ve ever seen caught was in below freezing temps and the biggest bass I’ve seen hauled in was actually while it was snowing! Temp/clarity has no effect on catching fish. It’s all about presentation, color, bait, and their current appetite. You find what they’re wanting, that said every fish has different triggers.

I don't know if you pay much attention to what is going on in the world outside of fishing, but there is a real possibility that youtube may be taken down, possibly forever. If you have content that is not backed up you may lose it. That would be very unfortunate. I know you guys have put a lot into your content. If I were you I would take some time to make sure you are backed up.

Randy I've always been a pretty good angler when I'm always on someone else's boat, I'm not tooting my own horn and saying that I'm the best I'm just saying for some reason I feel more comfortable fishing off someone else's boat because I'm not responsible for the mistakes that can happen running on a drawn down lake.. and that fear it kind of reminds me of stage fright, I know I've got the skills to go out and find them I know I've got the technology to find them and I know that I have all the rods and reels and baits than any angler or any two anglers could ever need, but I'm just always afraid to fish during the draw down because I don't want to come around that corner where I know I should be swinging wide because that point sticks out far but I always feel like I'll misjudge it and knock the lower unit off my boat, or hit a big rock that I know exactly where it's at. And I don't understand why I cannot get past this fear I've owned my own boat for 5 years now and I think I've only fished the winter months and I live in Alabama so you know we can fish here around but I've only fished the winter months the drawdown months maybe 2 years out of the five that I've had my boat but I can jump in the boat with a buddy of mine and stand on the back deck and catch fish all day long I can even get on the front deck and run the trolling motor and mess with his electronics to my likings and catch them the way I like to catch them. But there's something about that fear of being on my own boat something that I know that I'm responsible for and getting in a lake that's my hometown lake that I know every turn, I know where every rock is, I know where it gets shallow I know where it gets deep I know where all the long points are, and I cannot shake that fear do you have any advice for me at all? I've tried to get on Google and try to go back in time and look at the lake while it's drawn down and I've never been able to figure out how to do that and I know that that would probably be a good help even if I've got to print the papers out myself and take them out there with me and put them in a laminated protected folder. I don't care at this point I just am tired of the draw down keeping me from fishing out of my own boat. Any help or any advice would go a mile. Thanks for your videos thanks for the advice that you share stay safe always and I hope you and yours are doing well.

Hey Randy not trying to be a hater I promise but why are most of your video titles focus on people are doing it wrong? I am 58 and have been bass fishing since I could pick up a rod. Old Zebco 33 my first. But I have had lots of success on several things you say are "wrong". I'm always up for trying new techniques and do find some of your content interesting but I am more apt to watch a title that's a little more positive. Just an opinion my friend and if you ever get around Muscle Shoals hit me up and we will fish Pickwick.
