So you can add an office space - Get a swivel for the passenger seat, then you can spin it around backward. A fold away table for a desk and you have everything you really need. It's one of the changes I'm going to make to mine.

I installed the wood floors in my van in a Home Depot parking lot in inner city Chicago. Bought the flooring, rented the nail gun, used the gun and returned it all without leaving the parking lot 😎☺️

I've been watching a few of these van videos over the last couple of days. It looks really cosy living like that - parked up by a river doing some writing or art while watching the rain or snow. I'm sure it's been a real adventure for you and I imagine you would learn a lot about yourself - anyway, it looks like the renovations are going well.

Hello, Maddie. I've been watching you for a year now.
As someone who has been back and forth living on the road to going back home to OC/L.A to live in a dwelling I can say that safety is always in forethought, especially in snowy places like WY or CO during winter or far from cities. So many things can occur on the road but it's the serene times and beautiful places visited that makes it great while with my baby girl, cat.
And I totally agree that if a person wants to go on the road to just do it no matter the kind of vehicle a person has. In 2020 I purchased a minivan and I'm still in it without a build out or refrigerator/ power station while having space for us. My only mistake, for me, was buying a roof rack which I only used for a short period when first starting.
Also, as a person now in his mid 40's with much experience that doesn't necessarily come with age, living for yourself, not how society wants you to be, as long as not harming anyone else, is the way to be. We are all on different paths and shouldn't be held down by other people's opinions; sometimes easier said than done.
In my late 20's I definitely felt like I was coming into my own but life always takes unexpected twsits and turns so being in harmony all the time always takes some practice to stay that way to not be thrown off course.

Yep, our Promaster still at times confuses me with not having a parking gear. Parking break and drive gear is how we do it now. We also use blocks behind our wheels.
Long distance friendships work out better for me. Like you, I’m an introvert, and as I’m getting older, even more so. I’m also VERY “picky” about who I let into my life.
We will always travel in either our van, or maybe even a camper some day, but we will also always have a home base. Our van is now out teeny tiny vacation home on wheels.
Maddie you are a true artist, and I wish our world would appreciate artists like you more. It’s one of those “things”, like music, unless you make it BIG, people just don’t appreciate it enough.
Society putting so much pressure on all of us is also something that is making me live by my own “rules”. Being kind to those who are kind is how I live, and those who I don’t consider kind,in don’t want in my life. I’m 60, almost 61, and I still feel like I have so much life to live.
As you are telling us about wanting to move to Europe, my hubby and I have decided to travel to Europe next year (I’m originally from Belgium, moved to the US at age 19), and look to buy some property there. Right now, we’re thinking, central to southern France, Spain, Portugal……
Spending time with myself, and my best friends is my goal too 🧡

Years ago I got into long haul trucking because of the dream of living on the road. It was a dream job for about two years, as it took me to 48 states and all ten Canadian provinces. Unfortunately with it being a job and the emphasis on making money, it got really tough when economic conditions changed (around 2008). I eventually got out of the business, but my passion for travel never ended. This is how I almost ended up doing van life too, but then I discovered bicycle touring. I really enjoy your videos and thanks for answering the questions so honestly. I could still see myself living in a van, some day 😉.

Some Transits are AWD, lifted, and have bigger all terrain tires. It's still a bit difficult to find the van you want, but I did get one. Don't worry about what society expects. Do you -- you're doing great as is. We like your videos. You can ship your van to Europe. ❤

I wonder if there's something about one's late 20's that drives many people to abandon conventional living to do some extended exploring and roaming, be it for few months to a few years or longer. It's what I did not long after I turned 28, quit my job, bought a new car and a bunch of supplies and hit the road for nearly 3 months, living out of but not in my car, in a mix of motels, campsites and friends' couches.
Obviously it wasn't nearly as big of a commitment as yours in terms of time, money and investment and when I got back I did eventually return to a more conventional life with job, apartment and all that. But it was way more than just a vacation and an actual, bona fide adventure taking me quite a bit out of my comfort zone, expertise and range of experience. I got to see parts of the country that I'd only dreamed about till then and basically roam free for several months and go wherever I liked.
Perhaps it's because one's late 20's is when it finally sinks in that youth is fleeting and you're fully an adult even if you're not married with kids, and you feel that time is running out for the sorts of adventures you dreamed about growing up because eventually you'll have to settle down and it gets increasingly harder to do this sort of thing (but never impossible, of course, just more complicated). I think I also started burning out on conventional 9-5 work and needed to get out of that for a while, as many people do.
So glad I did it just as you're obviously glad that you did it too.
