Well the cheapest Volvo C30 in the country might have only been $3,000 but it cost me well over $1,500 on parts. Not only were the parts expensive but days of labor went into getting everything right. The work paid off though, the turbocharged 5 cylinder engine was tamed with a set of new engine mounts, the turn signal doesn't randomly turn on after each bump, and the clunky suspension is once again buttery smooth. I love this quirky little car, but it's time for it to find a new home. I'm going to list it on AutoTempest then post the link here and in the comments tomorrow.

Just a couple things - you should use impact rated extensions or at least an extension with a lot tighter fit. Your extension is robbing a lot of power from your impact. Its acting like a really shitty torque stick pretty much.
Second - the car's systems all 'failed' when you pulled out that head unit not because the head unit controls the whole car but because that was a MOST link. Its a ring network so any break in the network prevents ALL the modules in the network from communicating. You can get bypass loop adapters which would let you bypass individual modules without causing a ring wide failure.

Using chrome bits with an impact gun is just asking for trouble. They will eventually crack or shred as shown in the video.

I had a '90 240 Wagon (5sp, RWD), bought in 2000 with 120k and drove another decade to about 275k, ran like a watch - other than oil changes never touched the motor. Think tires and brakes every year (weight? vehicles not mine), traded it in (2012 Honda Accord Coupe) when blower fan (under dash) went out and the price was $700. Could kick myself for letting go for $800.

Tip, if you do a shifter blind again, pop the tray out behind the waterfall, remove the two T25's from behind the panel above that tray, remove the two t25 screws in the back of the center console in the bottom of the pocket under the arm rest, the entire center console will slide back enough you can access the two screws at the base of the waterfall, also tug the plastic around the parking brake handle off. I do tons of these....I have never pulled the armrest and the grey trim out.

And you had it in your hands! The coolant tank on these is known to break and leak at the seams. They have a low window washer sensor/warning but no low coolant sensor for the coolant tank. I'm rebuilding an 11 with a manual and I will be swapping in a new tank. Nice work all around. I'll be checking those motor mounts now. Thanks for the walkthrough.

Well done video, JRCAMO. I actually like that car which is weird since most of the junk here is without merit. He could teach Redline Reviews how to do actual 0-60 times instead of his usual "about x seconds" as he drives with his head inside his body. I gained some respect for you upgrading and fixing this car mostly on your own effort. A true video delight.

The passenger side mirror glass falling out happens to all of these. I remember driving down the highway checking the mirror and seeing it was just gone._. I believe it's a symptom of ice separating the adhesive. Point is it's possible to replace just the glass for about $15 with brand new glass.

I'm a long term C30 owner - just 2 comments - you should have replaced the coolant tank. I could see it was yellowed, once they get that way, they're prone to cracking. You lose coolant, overheat - and then BAM - blown head gasket. The tank is a cheap part, just replace it. Second thing, you didn't need to change the whole mirror assembly, you can just pop new mirror elements in. Very easy, could have saved you a bunch of time. Otherwise, great job! The next owner is going to love you guys for the work you did!

    Many comments in one.............
-That front mount is a lot easier to do if you take the timing cover off. as it looks like maybe you found out when you couldn't get it back in easy.
-As for the battery, if you don't have the best sound system optioned the battery is right, there are actually 2 different sized batteries for them, there should be a box and cover that would help it not look under sized but yours seems to be missing.
-BTW i made a video of the mounts too.. specific note about not forgetting that little 8mm on the trans mount ;-) and you forgot the most important "mount" the dog-bone mount under and behind the trans, that will make a huge difference it's the #1 thing to swap out when getting one of these the factory ones are notoriously bad, way too soft, and fail if you look at them wrong
really is too bad you got the auto... if you ever get the chance to drive a manual C30.. take it . they are fin little cars.
