I bought the cheapest Volvo C30 in the country for only $3,000 somewhere in northeast Texas. It needed a lot of help, all the suspension was blown out but the turbocharged five cylinder engine was perfect. I just finished rebuilding the rear suspension taking care of a lot of the clunking and banging under the car but now it's time to replace the entire front. We're changing the complete strut assemblies, control arms, sway bar endlinks, both CVs, and an oil change in one day.

These C30 videos should come in handy for me, I just picked up a cheap T5 for about $2800US here in NZ. It needs a full refresh of the suspensions and bushings, but at least I'm saving it from being parted out.

I would recommend changing out all the subframe bushings and engine and trans mounts, its not awfully expensive but it makes a huge difference with front end issues. MY passenger side engine mount went and it would cause the car to mimic CV issues. Saved me a couple hundred dollars when i was so certain it was an axle.

If you plan on keeping this car long-term, I highly reccomend getting a DiCE scan tool and the VIDA software package. It has detailed parts diagrams and diagnostics procedures for all Volvo's which makes it way easier to fix. You can also change different programmed parameters and reprogram certain control units.
I have it for my 2012 V50 and It is absolutely worth it's weight in gold.

Watching how quickly you got this done is amazing. When I did the front end refresh on my V50 it took me at least 3 times as long, not counting time waiting for parts. It's crazy what rust can do. Also, if you're going to be keeping the C30 for a while, I would suggest some wider wheels with a good offset, it does wonders for handling.

Volvo makes a kit to fix it. It is basically two large 4" o rings that wedge between the subframe bushing mounts and the chassis. The rear bushings of the front subframe are weak and will allow clunking during braking or Accel

You will want to look for an attachment clip or similar for the brake booster pump so that the wiring doesn't swing or float, or the vibration will cause a wire fatigue break. If there is noting, use a plastic wire tie to prevent it from moving.

Drives car with a solvent-based oil flush in it. Well, this car would have had a nice engine for the buyer.
When it has no load on it, it's not a big deal, but when you're driving around and loading the internals with solvent, then you're doing a ton of damage. This can be tested by running those junkyard engines without motor oil and they will idle forever. The moment you put them into gear, the engine will sieze.

You can remove the vacuum pump and bypass it you dont need it, look up RS vacuum mod. just run a vacuum line from the upper intake plenum to the vacuum booster.

Probably a wheel bearing is bad. Very common on these. Spin tire and feel for vibrations on spring.

My C30 has 35k miles and it has wheel bearing noise. It's an expensive fix, too., and not everybody can do it as there is some special equipment required. Part only for each side is $400 or so.

Funny how you said controls arms were difficult but not popping out the drivers side axle. People have spent hours on those. Control arms are simple in these

It seems like every time you fix something on that car, you find something else that needs fixed. I think it's all worth it though.
