BRAVISSIMAS.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's just stunning how Horne and, particularly, Sutherland (more than 7 years her senior) in the twillight of their careers could pull off singing of this magnificent quality and musicianship of such amazing taste supported by great techniques that allowed them to really enact their musical ideas and vocal purposes almost as perfectly as you could expect from any young great soprano and mezzo in their prime. This is, surprisingly, a veritable reference in how this scene should be sung, I don't even have to cut them some slack for their age and decades of intensive career.
Ms. Horne wasn't in the twilight of her career. She retired from classical performances in 2000, and continued to perform musical theater rep until the mid 2000s or so.
This version with these two stellar singers is wonderful. I really miss the days of the golden age of opera. When Dame Joan passed in 2010, it all ended. It's too bad that we don't have any singers of their talent any more.
