No chemistry here. Sutherland essentially never looks at Horne, but just the audience. Meh. By comparison, Marilyn Horne with Montserrat Caballe is much much better and their two voices together are magical (Horne called it a "quirk of nature") To each her own,

Although Sutherland always gave her best for her audiences, if you listen to any of the performances in Australia there is always just a bit more than any of her others. She is superb here, as always, and her audience repays her with great love and affection.

Joan often said when you sing with a person whose voice matches yours it lifts you to perform at your very best, it spurs you on to be as good or better than you have ever been. I’d say this was one of those occasions.

I recall watching this concert live as it was broadcast on ABC TV in Australia. This was at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. It was wonderful. The colour and warmth in Hornes voice contrasts beautifully with the coloratura of Joan’s.
