Honestly her leaving with Hook was the least of it for me. She was downright abusive and constantly ableist towards Rumple, always treating him horribly because of his leg. Imagine walking for days on a broken leg, holding on by thinking you'll be going home to a place where you'll feel safe and loved, only to find that the person who is supposed to care about you is screaming abuse at you. Hook and Regina changed and became better people which is why I can forgive them. While she may have tried to make up for abandoning Bae she was still cruel when she and Rumple reunited. It's her constant ableism that I hate. She also shouldn't have abandoned Bae and if they ever came back to get him it would have been wrong of her to take him away from Rumple, at least before he became The Dark One. They certainly shouldn't have stayed married, Rumple should have left her. But Bae should have been able to stay in contact with her. Could she have redeemed herself? Of course. Did she? No.

I think he hurt his leg on purpose so he won't face the ogres. Rumplestiltskein killed the maid who was mute. That is kind of ableist don't you think? He turned a man into a snail then squished him over a grazed knee. Everyone was "abusing" rumple, they all saw him as a coward until he became the dark one.

@@lauraauty7387 That is indeed the case, but that doesn't mean Milah was right to treat him that way. In a marriage they say "in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health" and what had happened was the bad times. And then she also behaves like a coward, given that she mistreated her husband and abandoned her son just because she gave weight to what others thought of her. In fact, let's remember that Bae never complained about his father before he became the Dark One. So the problem was only in Milah's head.

He murdered her not killed. Did she do anything deserving of death? No. If she had he could've arrested her and brought her in for trial, but he has no right to deal out executions. Was she a threat that had to be eliminated before it caused further harm? No. That's the only reason he could have been morally justified in killing her himself. If I were a judge and he was arrested and brought to me for sentencing I would have him executed for murder.

And then it's not a trivial thing that has always looked down on top, and has incessantly insulted him since he was branded a coward. And remember that she also abandoned their son. She had promised that she would resist for his good, and instead she broke that promise after not even a day. Does this seem like a trivial thing for a mother to abandon her child just to escape her problems? So regardless of whether she deserved it or not, what happened to her was still a consequence of her actions. That of Rumple was only the gesture of a unhappy man disappointed by life. @booklover3341 4 ปีที่แล้ว +166

Okay, but let's review this scenario and all those involved. Keep in mind that when it comes to Hook, I'm talking about the person he was at THIS particular point in the show not the person he became later on in the show.
First there's Milah. Milah was a woman who CLAIMED to love Rumple despite people's accusations of him being a coward just like his father, even saying that he didn't have anything to prove to anyone and didn't want him to fight in the Ogre wars. Then after he deliberately cripples himself so that he doesn't have to fight because he was afraid of dying on the battlefield (pretty drastic of an action, but I can see where he's coming from), she accuses him of being a coward and says that she hates him (could easily be argued that this was in the heat of the moment but I don't think it truly was), and that it would've been better if he had died because then she would've had the honor of being a widow. I'm sorry, but wasn't this the very thing that she had been afraid of when he first ANNOUNCED his intentions of fighting? You can't have it both ways, lady.
While their son Baelfire is growing up, it's Rumplestiltskin who's looking after him and taking care of the farm while Milah's at a tavern----working, yes, but also hitting up every man she sees, trying to find a way out of her life with Rumple and Baelfire. Then she meets Captain Hook. She starts flirting with him, disparages Rumple, agrees to run off with him, with no thought of Baelfire, which is further evidenced later on Hook's ship when she doesn't seem to want Hook to go back for Baelfire, preferring to just live her life on a ship playing pirate.
Then there's Hook: a pirate who loves to pillage, plunder, rape, and murder (his enjoyment of this is even sung about in Season 6's musical). He flirts with Milah, and when he finds out that she's in fact MARRIED when Rumplestiltskin comes after them, instead of being a man and apologizing to Rumple and admitting his mistake, he goads Rumple into a fight and enjoys humiliating a crippled man by stealing his wife, and then has the AUDACITY to act like the affronted party when Rumple comes back as the Dark One to reclaim his wife.
Let's look at Rumple, shall we? At the start of this particular story, he's a man who's doing his best to overcome the reputation of the man who abandoned him to be a child forever, and felt like he HAD to fight in a war he probably didn't really believe in to gain acceptance. When he signed up to fight, he was proud of himself and went to show off to Milah, who reacts angrily, telling him he's a fool and that he's sentenced her to live the wife of a widow. In ONE moment of fear---which does NOT make him a coward---he makes the drastic decision to lame himself so that his son wouldn't grow up without a father. As stated above, Milah then turns on him, calling him a coward and saying that it was better if he had died. Again, lady, you can't have things both ways.
After the birth of their son, Rumple does his best to take care of both their farm and their son while Milah's at the tavern. He's devoted to Baelfire, taking care of him to the best of his abilities. When Milah is supposedly taken captive by Hook, Rumple goes looking for her and tries to get her back, ending up humiliated at the hands of the man who STOLE HIS WIFE. When he comes back as the Dark One, they argue about the fact that she left them, and it's only after that she states that she never loved him does he rip her heart out and crush it.
This is a crime of passion while the actions of Hook and Milah are deliberate.

I don’t understand what we are supposed to feel for her either. I personally can’t stand her and the whole situation doesn’t even make sense to me. Why couldn’t she of just said to Rumple that she’s was unhappy and that she has met someone else and then talked about how they were going to bring up bae. Say she wanted to travel for a long time at least say goodbye to her child and say that she loved him and will come back so see him again. The fact that she never even thought about her child or even asked about him here is truly fucked up. Also it really annoys me how ouat fans overlook Hooks part in all this. As someone who was abandoned by one of his parents himself, why would he fall in love with such a terrible thoughtless mother? It’s weird to me. I don’t know how he couldn’t put himself in baes shoes and think how he would feel if his mother did that to him. I hate Hook and Milah they are the worst characters and the fact that this show wants me to feel for them is a laugh!

I wished this scene had actually properly broken down what the difference was between Rumpel and Milah regarding Baelfire so there is no wiggle room to be hypocritical about it.
In the end of the day both of them abandoned their son and let him go, they just did it in very different ways and circumstances. In this regard they're both equals.
The difference though is that the moment Rumpelstilzchen let Bae go and failed him he not only immediately regreted it he's also moving heaven and earth to make up for it and reach him in the new land.
The very magical bean Milah held in her hands is the manifestation of the difference between them as parents. It's Rumpel's actual attempt to make up for how he failed as a parent, meanwhile Milah is keeping it from him and only has excuses to say for abandoning their son and never returning back home even though she had plenty of time to do so.
I genuinely wished they had Rumpelstilzchen point this out, because thematically this is a valid reason to kill the other parent figure in the story. That he wants the bean because he, just like her, abandoned their son and failed him because he let his judgment get clouded by his own misery too and that's how he ended up as Dark One. Rumpel ultimately failed their son as the Dark One, Milah ultimately failed him as a pirate. As parents they ARE equals, two sides of the same coin.
But UNLIKE her he is now HERE meeting her because that's where fate brought him on his way to find Baelfire.
Rumpelstilzchen is willing to face the consequences for his cowardly actions, but Milah is now here because she is a coward too but lacked the bravery to face that and do what is needed to make up for it.
That's the difference. This whole situation was so interesting to watch, I genuinely truly wished they had made it come full circle and made clear for good what the ONE factor was that put Rumpel above Milah with no grey area about it.

Honestly it’s no wonder Rumple got this way. Not to excuse any of the bad things he did but if everyone in your life has told you that the only way to be a true man is to take what you want and abuse your power over others weaker than you then you’ll eventually believe it. And not only did Hook do that by challenging a crippled man to a duel, but it turns out that all Milah had to do was be honest about being a coward and all of Hook’s talk of “a man unwilling to fight for what he wants deserves what he gets” talk was all a lie to cover her and help her avoid facing her problems. A realization that would probably have taken a load off Rumple’s psyche when he adopted that philosophy as the Dark One. Maybe even would have encouraged Rumple to choose his son over power. @@obsessedwithtvseriesx I blame Hook for turning rumple into a villain. If he didn’t steal his wife, there could be a small chance for Rumple to remain a normal man. I don’t blame Milah on being in an unhappy marriage. But she could’ve just stay with her child. She didn’t have to run off with some guy and abandon her child. Yes rumple did abandoned his child, but he did everything to find him and apologize. And what did she do? She felt sorry.

The loss of Hook’s hand felt too anticlimactic. There should have been more of a build up and I wish there had been more emphasis on Hook’s reaction. Instead he kind of just gasped like he got a bad paper cut.
