      Honestly, I hate when people say stuff like "It drives like a Lexus" as if it is a bad thing. Lexus has been making the IS for over 20 years and has been benchmarking the BMW 3-series the whole time. It is supposed to be an agile sporty sedan. I can't imagine someone driving an RX or an ES and then hopping into an IS and saying they drive similarly.

    The GSF is everything you’re saying that the IS500 is missing in a 4 door sedan. It’s track tuned suspension and stiffen dampers make it handle the corners far better than this one. Out of all of the Lexus v8s I’d argue the GSF is closer to the e39 m5 in spirit. The IS500 is great as a GT cruiser that wasn’t meant to be anything else.

    In the modern era of numb cars with electronics isolating you from the experience, I miss the era of the (mostly) analog sport sedan from 10-ish years ago. I was also reminded of the e90/92 era M3 when I experienced this car - in a TERRIFIC way. Lexus kind of let the competition run away in a tech direction that changed the driving experience (not necessarily for the better), and I actually love how "old school" their cars feel.

In reality this is exactly what you want to go for a drive in on a quiet country road on Sunday morning, or take a road trip in. This kind of "has to set Nuremberg records or it's shit!" mindset you see in so many reviews of performance sedans has ruined the class in the last 10 years, making manufacturers like Audi and BMW and even Mercedes churn out cars that are just not nice to drive when you aren't going hard out.

    • @ryanb8736

      @@Beer_Dad1975 The biggest problem with this IS500 is that it’s a parts bin car. No R&D we’re put in along with no upgrades. That’s why it’s not called an ISF.
      It’s a cool car that has that old car feel, which makes it cool, but not 65k cool.
      The biggest problem is people that are changing brands from German to this. The transmission feels like it belongs in a 4 cylinder Hyundai. Maybe worst. It’s very noticeable of how laggy it is. It’s a weak link in the chain. What good is the powerful engine if it can only put out 70 percent of its power. Trans is a power robber.
      If it was a 40k car, that would be one thing. It’s 65k so there’s no excuse why Lexus skimped out in new tech with all the great transmissions out these days. It’s handicapped by it.
      I don’t see the resale being that good. It’s just an IS350 with a V8 in it. Only a Lexus diehard would buy it.

    • @ryanb8736
      @ryanb8736 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Just think It’s only a V8 put in an IS350. It’s not an ISF so it’s resale won’t hold 80 percent in five years unless you just buy it and don’t drive it. Lexus just needed to get rid of V8’s and increase sales. This was their perfect solution. A parts bin car.
      Lexus is making way for the V6 turbo hybrid for the real ISF with more power and a great transmission. All the R&D will go into that.
      In a few years, the IS500 will be forgotten about. Unless you have a cult that overhypes the car. I was hoping to love it, but came away disappointed.

    Big difference in IS500 F-Sport vs F model (RCF currently) is, the chassis, suspension tuning/stiffness, cooling systems, big brake kit, wider wheels, more aggressive tires, torque vectoring differential. interior parts like leather/F specific seats etc. While IS500 F-Sport is tuned softly for daily driving, RCF is significantly more stiffer/nimble than the IS500. RCF is made for the race track as a luxury car while the IS500 is built entirely for comfortable street driving. It is a competitor according to the Lexus for the m340i, C43, S4 etc. Not the M3/M4. 2001-2005, the Lexus IS had a 2JZ-GE. They could have made an IS-F with a 2JZ-GTE. It wouldn't have taken much, if any, additional engineering. I'm still salty that never happened.

    • @Trussme96
      @Trussme96 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having the GTE motor in it would have been cool but it would have been in an awkward spot where it would be in BMW M3 territory with worse handling and looks or it would have been too expensive for JDM enthusiasts who would buy a Mitsubishi Evo, Impreza STi or a used Supra Turbo instead if they wanted a GTE car. Not to mention, they'd have to completely re-engineer the the chassis to handle the extra torque and weight on the front end as well. They probably thought about it and gave up to put that RnD money into the next gen vehicles and the LFA.

    I think half the E90 M3 lovers may jump in the IS500 and jump out and jump around for joy. But the other half will drive it 100 feet and leave with a frown. There's something electrifying about a BMW M car, especially with ITB's and a DCT or manual. Its a car that tells you from the first few feet it means business. Its a car that, as soon as you wake it up, goes "you better mean business because I'm not pulling any punches". It's a car that turns people who don't like cars away, that insists its drivers be certain types of people. The lexus is a car that is equally happy being ripped around a track as it does shuttling grandma to the grocery store.

    • @thirdpedalnirvana
      @thirdpedalnirvana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess if we are comparing new cars to new cars, nothing is like how M cars used to be. Nobody is so bold as to design a car to make average drivers say "too loud, too jerky, too difficult to drive" anymore.

    • @KLRGT500KR
      @KLRGT500KR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Disagree completely. I have driven an E90 M3 extensively as I had it for a while. It was great for its time and preferred it over the ISF version of the V8. The 2nd gen high-revving 2UR is a different beast made for the RCF originally. S65 is not nearly impressive as this new high-revving version of Lexus 2UR V8. It pulls so much harder, responds just as quickly and revs as freely. It was co-developed with Yamaha and a much modern interpretation of the similar concept. Yeah, it revs to 7400 rpm and does not rev to 8000+ rpm, but it has 100 ft-lbs of torque more available at 4000 rpm. It has much more lofty compression and direct injection to boost performance. The Lexus 2UR makes power everywhere right to redline and is a lot more powerful than the S65. S65 was fun if you were over 6500 rpm, but it was a torqueless wonder. Hated the car below 6500 rpm as it was lethargic and had no power at all.
