The other thing is… everyone is worrying about the battery. I saw articles saying stuff like “Kia battery costs $50k to replace” or something crazy like that. Well the EV9 battery is covered for 10 years or 100k miles just like their ICE powertrains are. Kia and Hyundai warranties are the best in the industry
Also - The charger doesn't throttle the charge at 80%. The battery BMS throttles charge. Think of how easy it is for people to find seats in an empty theater vs. When it's 80% full. It's similar for electrons finding space in a battery. (For lack of a smarter analogy)
We have one. As far as the haptic buttons, we just set the sensitivity to the lowest sensitivity setting. It doesn't get accidently pressed that way. You have to intentionally press them to activate them. Our frunk holds the mobile level 1/2 charging device and the extension cable.
This is an excellent vehicle if you need the space. The range is close enough to the Telluride for road trips. You'll be stopping every few hours with a family anyways.
I just test drove this car and it was soooo amazing. I have a Tesla model 3 but I’m looking for a 3 row seater that is electric because I just drive like 10 miles per day to pick up kids and groceries. Occasionally we drive 60 miles to baseball games or downtown LA. I’m used to EVs and I don’t mind charging and I don’t get range anxiety. They have good lease deals right now, so we might take advantage of this. The other car I was eyeballing was the Kia sorento plug in hybrid (super cute too) and the Tesla x (that one is way to expensive!!!). 😊. Thanks for the review!! We may go for it.
Between EV subsidies and dealer discounts, you should be able to get $12,000 off MSRP if you lease an EV9. If the mileage limitations don't bother you then leasing an EV9 is no more expensive to own than a Telluride, Palisae, or even something like a base trim BMW X7.
The fingerprint scanner is actually pretty awesome. Our EV9 is my wife's primary, so when I get a turn to drive it is easy to switch to me and my settings. Plus if your key isnt present, or the phone's digital key isnt being recognized to start the vehicle, the fingerprint will fully activate the EV9 to drive.
At about the 6 minute part of the video, you mention level 2 charging for 100 miles in 10 minutes and I believe you meant to say level 3 charging. Level 2 charging is for charging up in hours and level 3 is for charging in minutes. This vehicle btw has a TREMENDOUS charging curve and will hold that high power of charging at level 3 fast charging stations a long while and bc of that, charges pretty darn fast! This is a great vehicle for road trips and daily driving bc it is so comfy and smooth. We do both in ours and love it. You wouldnt even believe it's a Kia bc it's so well made and such nice quality. You mentioned the Lucid Gravity for comparison but that vehicle is likely to cost almost 100k more than the EV9. This compares very well to EV SUVs that cost 20k-50k more.
Todd asks, "How long till the car just recognizes you?". The answer is now. My wife's 2025 Mazda CX70 has facial recognition that adjusts everything in the vehicle to your preferences as soon as you sit down.
About the fingerprint scanner --- why not have whatever settings that are attached to the 'fingerprint' instead attached to the individual key fobs? I doubt many personal vehicles ever have more than two consistent drivers nowadays The Frunk: Permanent storage for backups of all the things you usually forget on a trip
Hi, from Japan!! I agree with you. Taking this as a daily car works good. In fact, Nissan 100% EV K-car “Sakura” are very popular and well selling here in Japan because in spite of EV it is cheap but nice capability it has . Of course, the battery is small due to K-car. That means the car is not for long trip drive but people don’t care of it because people buy it for only daily drive. EV can be both good and bad car depends on how you use.
While it's true the Model X has a definitive third row, the vehicle's shape and overall packaging are such that's it's always been seen as a less than ideal solution. This EV9, the Volvo EX90, Mercedes EQS SUV, and upcoming Lucid Gravity and Hyundai Ioniq 9 are all more earnest efforts.
On paper this is a great vehicle but in reality I have serious concerns. We bought this vehicle 10 days ago and it has spent almost all this time as a $90K brick stuck in our garage. It is non functional and won’t drive at all. This is our fourth EV and I believe the technology is unfortunately half baked. Kia has no idea what is wrong with our EV9 and their dealership service is terrible and Kia Canada customer service is only slightly better. We have applied for a vehicle buy back from Kia Canada 🤞.
? - we’re guessing this is the first of our work you’ve seen. No car maker has ever paid us to say anything, and we’ve said good and bad about every brand over the years. We hope you get the chance to drive the EV9. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately prices have moved on while the general public hasn’t. When the cheapest new cars in the US are things like the Nissan Versa and Mitsubishi Mirage, both of which start at $17-18k. $25k 3 row vehicles are out of the question when buying new. The average cost of a new car in 2024 is $48k. And most of those don’t have a 3rd row. Yes, I remember when the C5 Z06 was about $48k brand new, but look at what that trim level will cost you now? Inflation beats on… and always will, frankly.
LOL, name one decent USED large vehicle that you can even buy at that price with low miles, let alone a highly equipped new SUV. That's right that animal doesn't exist.

@@Target135 Most battery replacement stories are FUD or blown way out of proportion. Shops doing battery repair will also soon be common.

Works 4 me
I don't need an SUV, have no use for one, and am generally opposed to them ... but I kind of want one of these.
We have one. As far as the haptic buttons, we just set the sensitivity to the lowest sensitivity setting. It doesn't get accidently pressed that way. You have to intentionally press them to activate them. Our frunk holds the mobile level 1/2 charging device and the extension cable.
You sure EV 9 capable of setting that? I search the manual and came with nothing but I found online manual of Kia K9 capable of doing just that.

That's exactly what I did

Tiny frunk is good for the emergency kits that always come wit cars and the level 1 charging cable or adapters if you need

Good information and review 👍👍🙂
Every 3-row SUV should be a minivan. The Kia Carnival is fantastic.
No one want to be affiliated with a minivan. It has a stigma.
@@jraheemjefcoat429but you can’t out minivan a minivan, no matter the stigma. We use them for camera cars on our roadtrip videos on our main channel.
That timing as you guys were talking about Mercedes, a Mercedes SUV drives past.

Brotha you look sharp with the hair and the beard. I couldn’t recognize you..
Right off the bat, you're dead wrong! Many people want these bigger 3 row EVs. This is a great vehicle!
We hope you watched the review. Thanks for the comment!
You didn't watch the review.🤦🏾♂️

That thing is boxy like a Honda Element, not like boxy like a Tahoe.
The opener was odd. Model x already existed. Other 3 seaters out there now. Rich house wives etc. Uh there's a market haha.

All EVs are.... just like any other cars.. i don't get it. Its just a vehicle just powered by a bigger battery. Whats the big deal?
Darn near 6,000lbs, instant EV torque and almost 0.9G grip?
Be sure to budget for tires, and often.
That all depends upon how you drive it. We have about 8K miles on ours. We just did the first tire rotation and used less than 1/32 of the tread.
…a near-$80k Kia? That will also experience EV depreciation on top of that?
So what? It's great for those who lease it and it will be fantastic for those who will buy on the used market.
Shaved arms?! 😮
You know they invested a shit ton in 800 voltage architecture and platform right? Haha opener was off guys. Maybe you're right. Sales will tell.
Very cool but the price and screens/haptic stuff makes it a hard pass.

Yikes. We are very sorry to hear this. Interesting to hear your impressions after 4 different EVs. Thanks for watching and sharing!
No one buys a three row as commuter vehicle. As a three row SUV this is a joke for out of town trips which is what we use our Pilot for.
Not true. Some people troop kids and their friends/teammates around town.
Ours goes 330 miles on a charge that is a 5 hour drive . Would not take it across country but a great second car several 200 mile round trips .
Just wonder how much kia/hyundai pays for these ads.

The bald headed dude who is paid by Kia talks Kia has reached prime time because of design. I bet he never has frequented a Kia dealer. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
There is a big demand for this type of vehicle, but at a $25k price point.
Totally unreal expectation...
