It’s so nice to know that you can get a nice looking camera these days without having to invest a ton into a camera, lens, a capture card, and a dummy battery for the camera so you don’t have to worry about the battery
for how long? before this cam devs aimed at lowered price for webcam and wasnt able to put any good tech within such a budget. but this costs $500, the price line of starter APS-C devices.
This is legitimately the first webcam type product that kinda blew my mind because as you mentioned it's so insanely versatile. $500 sounds steep but a decent camera and gimbal setup would easily cost this much or more and have less functionality
It would cost more lol. I have a lower budget camera (Canon m50 mark ii with a sigma 16mm f1.4 lens) and it was around $1,000 and my DJI Ronin S gimbal was around $700. I could buy 3 of these "webcams" for the price I gave for my camera and gimbal lol. I agree with you tho, $500 sounds steep but I think thats because its marketed as a webcam, yanno? If it was marketed as like an "actual" camera it would seem cheap for what it is. Personally, this is the only webcam I'd ever spend that much money on lol.
@@ExploringRevenantsParanormal Well.. but TailAir is not made to be just Webcam. this is PTZ camera with AI features. if you need to do comparison with webcam. you should take Oabsbot Tiny2 not tail air I guess
So it has NDI|HX3 included or is that an optional add on license fee and module? The fact that any PTZ device that is smooth costs 3x this is crazy but if your saying it comes with NDI|HX3 as well for $499 then i say something is up or they just set the bar to a new level. UPDATE: Okay this makes sense: No optical zoom (4x isn't useful unless it's basically right up front or doing a podcast or something) These are the add ons but are not needed: NDI (Hx3 which is awesome) $99 Ethernet adapter for POE and wired NDI: $99 Remote $79 Seeing that not everyone would need the extra options and again a smooth PTZ camera with a 1/1.8" sensor is nice but with no optical zoom i don't see it replacing any low end PTZ cam when it seems the minimum usually needed it 10x to 20x. Realistically we are looking at $700 which is still decent but again that 4x kills it. I thought with that head it would have optical. But if it did it would probably be in the $1200 range. I love the SDK though and it seems they are very active so I'm betting they will start to make noise if they can continue to do what BMD did to the cinema industry with their low cost alternatives but to the PTZ world. Blows my mind how expensive PTZ is but once you work with higher end PTZ you realize why. I wish the ethernet was built in though
Yeeeahh.. Couple things. 1. The required app needed to set it up. Does that mean a Desktop app isnt enough, that you *need* to use a smartphone app? If so, then yeah, thats a deal breaker. Thats a big security issue for me. You're not reaching with that one. Thats actually SUPER important and very much a negative. (Without that app requirement, this might have been a consideration for use in classrooms) 2. Nether of these Obsbot cams you've gone over, do the two major things the Insta360 do.. "Whiteboard" & "Desktop/Dockcam" modes. I know 'streamers' wont find that useful, but as i look at your videos for gear the potentially be used for professors for online teaching, those modes still make the Insta360 the top choice for "AI" cameras. 3. Speaking of security issues.. nooot a fan of how it can be turned on remotely (and that it has a battery, meaning there is no way you can completely disable it unless its out of power). I saw it had a power button, but buttons like that can be overridden (as you said, can be turned on remotely). If it had a switch, that prevented it from remote activation, that would help 4. NDI License Key cost $100.. WTF? You need a LICENSE to use your own network? Such BS. They should have just included that in the price of the camera, instead of advertising it and then wanting you to pay an extra $100 for it. So in reality, this is a $600 camera, as advertised.
This is fair criticism. These Chinese cams are a nightmare for security (arguably on purpose). Most people can accept having every piece of data that goes through them sent off to the CCP - but if you can't, then you should avoid these. I wish Harris would touch on it but I see why he can't. His comment of "you should really look up an unsponsored review" is possibly alluding to the security issues with these without having to outright call them out. Which is super lame because the tech is amazing if it wasn't a virus that you had to install and agree to yourself.
I think if you have the remote you can configure up to 3 without the app and with NDI you can use that protocol or VISCA to config and control. I thought i saw the whiteboard feature but that might have been on another model of theiors. But yeah besides the extra $99 for HX3 NDI you would want the ethernet\poe adapter to really fit in your workflow and that's an extra $99 on top of that. The lack of optical zoom (4x isn't enough most of the time) and some of it's strange security admissions make this a strange product especially when they are (in a bunch of other advertisements) focus on classroom and corporate environments. But i don't think the app is needed. i could be 100% wrong though. I'm going to get one myself since it's hard to tell when watching sponsored reviews.
question about the video production on this, in terms of grading, did it give you any flat profile sorta output? Was this all straight out of the camera or adjusted in post? Basically trying to understand if it would actually look this good or if you just made it look this good? thanks

If I was still doing the tech journalism thing and running a 3 camera setup on the floor of big iron tech conferences, I'd replace all 3 of my cameras with these. Literally everything you could want for a multicam live setup with a Tricaster or LiveStream Studio rig. Hell, I may get one as my main streaming cam and move my i360 Link to my kitchen for cooking streams...or vice versa.
This next-gen camera is so advanced, it doesn’t just track you; it walks behind you like your overzealous friend. ‘Hey, can I get that shot while you’re…uh, busy?’
OBSBOT makes some really rad stuff. I felt like I was taking a bit of a gamble when I rolled the dice and purchased one of their OBSBOT "Meet" 4k webcams, as at that time they were still a mostly unknown brand and there weren't many reviews on Amazon or even here on TH-cam yet. I'm glad that I grabbed it though, I've since gone on to purchase several other cameras by them, including a few of the OBSBOT Mini and Mini 2s for various multi-cam studio setup/install jobs. They're definitely some of the best cameras you can get for the money, considering the plethora of features and the build quality.
This is so insane... Even 500$ isn't really that crazy for what you're getting. I haven't done streaming where movement tracking around a room would really come into play, but just seeing this just instantly makes you start thinking of how you could utilize it and make my stream unique from 99% of the streams out there. I've known about PTZs for years, but a PTZ with features this solid, and really simple to set up, this thing so insanely powerful. I can see this easily being the future of streaming
my wifes EOS M50 starting glitching out like crazy recently and we were in the market for a new camera since we haven't been able to fix it with a firmware update etc like we have in the past when we've had these issues. She primarily uses the camera for filming her youtube/tiktok videos as well as for her zoom meetings with clients. Do you think this is a worthy replacement for a DSLR with a rode mic (the eos m50 creator bundle I believe is what we got before) or do you think it would be a smarter option to just buy a replacement dslr that fits some of the lenses shes purchased in the past? we were debating between this one and the newer eos r50 I believe or the Lumix GH5
I've actually been personally saving up for those OBSBot cams for these reasons, especially as I have a variety of ideas (creative ideas, that is) that is going to be very interesting, not just for TH-cam videos, but for Twitch and TH-cam multi-live streams, so stay tuned!
My concern is for privacy. What does this company do to ensure that the data/images it’s sending remotely to your phone or over WiFi aren’t being compromised or being used to train the Obsbot/Remotech AI? Particularly the fact that you can turn it on remotely with your phone makes me think this camera works on “always-on” tech. I’m generally wary of tech like this but particularly when it comes from places like Shenzhen where there have been many cases of personal data acquired from cameras being misused.
Yeeep. Exactly. Not to mention the fact that, since its going though your phone, that also allows your phone maker & network carrier access to that data as well.
QUESTION: How is the video quality, i.e., color depth, clarity, sharpness, and SKINTONES, represented here? How does it compare to a Canon Cinema Camera? i.e. can it shoot in a log format? can you color-grade the file? Is it 8, 10, or 12-byte color, and does 4k Framerate include 24? Thanks for a great video, I've seen these and never understood what they do until now. REALLY USEFUL especially if you have a highly paid model and need to capture additional angles with video. Really insanely brilliant! So, thanks for showing me a great new tool and workflow.
I feel like, nowadays, if you are going to review a high end webcam, there should be some comparisons to the competition. The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra isn't on a gimbal, but it does have the highest picture quality that you can get out of a dedicated webcam right now.
I dunno, I believe that entire video was shot on this thing, and the quality of the direct to camera parts was insanely good. I'd really love a detailed comparison video between the Kiyo Pro Ultra and this thing.
I bought this using your discount code and used it on my first live stream tonight and for the most part I loved it. The only problem I had was that you can't turn off auto tracking. No matter how many times you turn it off, it comes back on and the camera moves to a new location. I hope there is a software update soon that will allow you turn it off and it won't come back on without you manually turning it back on.
I have to say, as someone who plays a lot of TTRPGs over video, this camera seems like it would be amazing for that purpose. Instead of being stuck in a chair I could move around more, or as a DM could have the camera pan over to a physical battlemap while playing.
Any idea how the image quality compares to the DJI Pocket 2 or 3? I’d be interested to try this to film soccer games if the digital zoom isn’t too noisy. I currently use a camcorder on a DJI RS3, but sometimes have to use the DJI Pocket 2 when I need something smaller due to wind/rain. If this thing had an optical zoom, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Man .. makes me want to hurry up and fix my office to look professional so I can start using cameras like this. Currently I don't do a face-cam for streams .. but man .. my wife is going to love it when I put this on my "Need to buy for the office" list. Love it meaning she will hunt you down for constantly giving expensive (and good) reviews.
Thanks for that one! Also, I would LOVE to know what is that rail system behind the desk at 1:35. Seems like exactly something I need for my looong desk with lots of gear!
I just got mine and I can’t wait to set it up. I have been looking for ways I can have a camera that is at the same time a cameraman. I think this is the camera for me. We will see. Thank you, though for the review.
PTZ, as you said, means Pan/Tilt/Zoom... it's got a 4k sensor. He's the real question... You commented about the lens and the sensor... The Pan and Tilt functionality are without question... is the "Zoom" a strictly digital (cropping the 4k sensor) or is there a optical Zoom functional lens inside?
Looks good except the edges. The distortion there hurt my eyes. Look in the center of the mic that weird edge glow or around Harris. I would not use this as a main camera, maybe as stream cam but there are some other options. This has the tracking and good focus as a plus, but i dont think any streamer/gamer has any use of that. Thnx for the video.
I wonder if you can control the PTZ with obs and the Move plugin, like the insta360 camera. Bonus points if you can do it while it's connected via HDMI
oh that's nice. show some low light. and have you updated to Sony Monitor and Control?? There no lag, and you can adjust for speed and quality, just make sure, you have camera setup on the wifi.
Hey Harris, I know you have already made a video about GOXLR and how to set it up, but would you set it up same with SM7B? I am still quite lost in how to properly mix and set it up to sound great.
great camera!, only thing im a bit nitpicky on is the bitrate or image sharpness looks hella softened, and object behind you look like they have ghosting. That being said this looks awesome. price compared to me using my dslr and a gimbal is way worth. Nice video thank you!
I have to admit, recording myself with a full frame ruined it all for me. I'll spend ages making myself look good with a 20mm G lens, and on the other side there'll be someone at 480p blob that just won't care. At all. :D
I rarely comment, but this was a good review and the camera looks amazing. The price is pretty good as far as I am concerned. Think of all the upcoming technology (i.e. robotics) that will/are using this technology. This might actually be good for in-store security as well.
You should do a video with this on how to do an IRL stream set up with this camera because I am super interested in that. & Its kinda crazy to me that you could do that with a webcam.
I like the idea of it being wireless or just having other options to connect. Have you ever done a comprehensive review of wireless webcam options, etc? Would love to have 1 less USB device
Is there any web cam with similar picture quality, but without the added complexity of PTZ ? Insta360 or Osbot Tiny 2 seem good, but OMG i hate that 300$ of exorbitant price tag.
would love a top down camera - and the idea of getting those mirrorless cameras always feel over kill...this one seems perfect for the first time in a while
my question is how is it with thermals, if you got mad hyper focus issues and end up staying live for 12hours is it gonna get to hot n start workin like dookie?
It's insane how long there weren't any amazing webcam options and now I hear of a new one every few months.
It’s so nice to know that you can get a nice looking camera these days without having to invest a ton into a camera, lens, a capture card, and a dummy battery for the camera so you don’t have to worry about the battery
And most of them are from the same company.

There no lag, and you can adjust for speed and quality, just make sure, you have camera setup on the wifi.
the fringing on the edges is wild
Hey Harris, I know you have already made a video about GOXLR and how to set it up, but would you set it up same with SM7B? I am still quite lost in how to properly mix and set it up to sound great.
what's the desk mike you are using?
I have 2 osbots. Do I need a switcher to be able to integrate them simultaneously or can this be done with the app.
Thanks.
Does it lock on just you or will it pick up other people while tracking? I have a need to record technique in a busy gym.
Does it have portrait, or is that a negative you missed?
great camera!, only thing im a bit nitpicky on is the bitrate or image sharpness looks hella softened, and object behind you look like they have ghosting.
That being said this looks awesome. price compared to me using my dslr and a gimbal is way worth.
Nice video thank you!
Just curious does it have the overhead view for like keyboard shots that the Insta360 has I think that is a really good feature
$500 for a webcam at this level compared to what else is out there for versatility is so cheap, was honeslt expecting $700 range maybe.
Thats crazy!
I have to admit, recording myself with a full frame ruined it all for me. I'll spend ages making myself look good with a 20mm G lens, and on the other side there'll be someone at 480p blob that just won't care. At all. :D
Image quality vs the new BIG sensor Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra?
I rarely comment, but this was a good review and the camera looks amazing. The price is pretty good as far as I am concerned. Think of all the upcoming technology (i.e. robotics) that will/are using this technology. This might actually be good for in-store security as well.
Recommendations on a good wall mount for this?
I think it’s a “Pan”, Tilt, Zoom camera
You should do a video with this on how to do an IRL stream set up with this camera because I am super interested in that. & Its kinda crazy to me that you could do that with a webcam.
PTZ -> PAN, tilt, zoom :)
Considering you've color graded this, it does overexpose somewhat.
Will it allow you to charge while recording via usb-c?
Hi long , does the camera has charger and it is rechargeable, how long does it take to stream for the battery to go low
Just what I have been looking for!
I like the idea of it being wireless or just having other options to connect. Have you ever done a comprehensive review of wireless webcam options, etc? Would love to have 1 less USB device
This was a great review. Seriously thinking about buying it.
I also got one and was equally gushing. It is insane tech.
So if you wanted to use these for a multicam video podcast, could the app control multiple Tail Airs at once or do you need the remote for that?
It would be pretty cool to be able to track both my regular view and my cat, I hope they can track cats.
Is there any web cam with similar picture quality, but without the added complexity of PTZ ?
Insta360 or Osbot Tiny 2 seem good, but OMG i hate that 300$ of exorbitant price tag.
would love a top down camera - and the idea of getting those mirrorless cameras always feel over kill...this one seems perfect for the first time in a while
Wow! That camera is amazing.
cheaper and better than mirrorless - it's on my list for next year - thank you for the review
Make your TH-cam award floating desk a little more level. That's my only critique. Love the camera .
really wish you talked about the low light features on this camera but all in all a really good video!!! long time viewer of the channel!
Imagine how good thing thing will be when version 2 comes with auto-zoom!
love your work mate. Another new toy to add to my wish list.
I had the obsbot version, prior to this. I love this cam!!
Can it switch from camera to camera automatically (following your eyes for example) or what else is AI in Director feature.
What about the osbot tiny 2 I thunk it's more practically. It's states it can do 4k 60fps as well and it has a 1/1.5 I'm sensor
1:20 IMMEDIATELY has my respect
my question is how is it with thermals, if you got mad hyper focus issues and end up staying live for 12hours is it gonna get to hot n start workin like dookie?
Why not use a DJI Pocket 3 with its mic?
It does look like a fair price for all it does and how good it looks.
That camera needs an attachment on top for your Sennheiser Mkh 416. So the microphone can also follow you. :)
Do you have to buy a license Key to use NDI?
